Going back to the PS3 controller after playing a lot on PS4

It was easier then I thought. But these make a world of difference for me

i never had any problems with the DS3 and even after having and playing with a DS4 for this long, i still don't

seems fine for me

DS4 is a huge improvement over DS3.
I went back on the DS3 yesterday for a Vanquish lttp and it feels like using a wooden board.

Tbh i've never had problems with the triggers and thought it was not so bad compared to the xbox360 one, but it's just a matter of habit. I haven't played so much on xbox or pc to experience the difference in terms of long gaming session.

I often feel like people over exaggerate how bad the Dual Shock 3 was. I never found it to be the horrible pile of shit that some say they did. Maybe it's because I grew up with the design from the PS1 and PS2?

I mean, the 360 was better in almost every way (except for it's hot garbage d-pad, god damn) but the PS3 controller was not 'kill it with fire' bad.

I still use my Dual Shock 3 rather than the DS4 simply so I don't have to sync and resync it with the PS3/PS4 when I play different games.

My Dual Shock 3's R2/L2 triggers never bloody squeaked, it makes my DS4 feel like a cheep knock off.

I could never stand the DS3. It was one of the main reasons I never bought a PS3.

So, were a lot of you not around during the NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 days etc, or did many of you just hate those controllers in those days too?

The SNES gamepad absolutely destroys the PS4 controller. Sure, it lacks analog sticks and pressure-sensitive triggers, but it feels and functions great.

But NES, PS1, and Dual Analog/Shock 1/2/3/Sixaxis were all garbage, even at release time. NES at least had the excuse of being the first usable gamepad. Sony had none.

It's still the most effective "stock" controller for fighting games. D-Pad and buttons are great.

For everything else, DS4 kills it.

I know, but since I can't re-map the buttons it's very awkward using the DS4. That why when TLoU: remastered comes out I'll re-map the buttons just like the PS3 version. And also, there's a lot of dead zones while using the DS4 in TLoU

Please elaborate on these deadzones?

I've been frequently playing with both my Ps3 and Ps4 and I've had not issue alternating between the DS3 and DS4.

The DS4 is clearly a step up, bigger, better analogs and better triggers. But the DS3 is also fine with me.

I never really understood why people hated it so much. Yeah other controllers are better but for me it never was an issue to the point of "I can't play on Ps3 or I will buy another console JUST because of the controller"

Being mainly a Xbox 360 Player and also buying a PS3 2-3 years ago I could never understand how people could use this nightmare of a controller and even calling it "good" or "decent" ;)

The other day I was talking about how the triggers were a lot better on Xbox 360 and how I found the original Bioshock unplayable on the PS3 due to how shooting is in L2/R2 instead of R1/L1 (like most shooters do).

One of my friends thought I was overreacting, but I think I'm not. It's a shame I can't play one of my favorite games of last gen now because of those shitty slippy things.

But people is happy with DS4 triggers and shooters on PS4 use L2/R2, so I'm confident they'd work well when I eventually upgrade.

I never got the hate for the DualShock 3. To hate the DS3 means you also hated the DS1 and DS2, and I had never heard that. I grew up and used that design almost exclusively for 15 years, it's pretty much a part of me. Don't get me wrong, the DS4 is awesome but this hate existed before it apparently.

I also cannot fathom how I constantly have other gamers tell me the 360 controller was the best gaming controller ever, I dislike it.

No. In most games I played during the PS1 and PS2 tiggers weren't a core part of gameplay. Right now, for better or worse, and important amount of games rely heavily on them.

I think neither of those two controllers are perfect. I'd never play a 2D game with the terrbile D-Pad the 360 controller has. And I found it's position awkward. I prefer the DS3 button placement because I like having the D-Pad and the face buttons symetrical.

I could never stand the DS3. It was one of the main reasons I never bought a PS3.

Dude. Do you know that third party controllers exist? There are plenty that copy the X360 layout if you feel more comfortable that way.

I think skipping the great PS3 exclusives because you don't like a controller is sad. Because there is some great stuff there waiting for you to find it.

No issues with using the DS3 here, when I played ME3 MP a while ago. I miss the convex analogue sticks. Never had to adjust my thumbs mid-game with them. And firing being set to L1/R1 by default, as it's easier to use secondary functions on L2/R2 simultaneously.

convex means the mushroom head sticks like the PS3 had? I have to say I kindof miss them too. I'm not sure if my hands sweat a lot, but I find myself having to adjust my thumbs on them PS4 controller sticks as they're never quite comfortable and I feel as though the stick will suddenly 'slip' away from my thumb (I notice this on L3 which I use for moving). Is my thumb actually supposed to be pressed down on top of/inside the 'dip', sometimes I have it sat on the 'rim'.

Dualshock 3 was a really bad controller. To floaty sticks and horrible triggers. And it's very uncomfy and akward to hold if you have big palms. Dualshock 4 is a great controller, so was the Xbox 360, and so is the Xbox One controller. I'm just glad that I don't need to use the Dualshock 3 anymore.

Yep. I have to adjust my thumbs all the time when I'm playing something like Resogun or Entwined. That wouldn't have happened with the DS3.

I actually really liked the Dualshock 3 when I primarily played PS3 games. Now though, it is really hard to play with. I just started using it as a controller for my PC and I get bad cramps now in my right hand. There really is no going back for me now after using the Dualshock 4.

Completely agree. I've been using my DS4 instead for my Demon souls play through. But DS3's battery life really is incredible in comparison.

I did the same thing and it felt horrible.

The small handles, the shitty controller sticks, the horrible triggers. By the gods.

I still like the dualshock 3. I can go back to it anytime. It never bothered me and still doesn't bother me even after using dualshock 4 full time (I have a CronusMax).

I like the DS3 more than the 4 mostly because of the material on the sticks. Can't deal with DS4's sticks.

I'm not a fan of the concave sticks either. The ridges hurt my thumbs after a while, however I never got fatigued using the dualshock 3. I tend to only lightly hold the dualshock 3 thumbsticks and I roll my thumbs around on it to move.

With the dualshock 4, I have to hold the sticks tightly so that my thumbs don't move and I can no longer just roll my thumb around on the sticks. I have to basically move my whole entire thumb to move the sticks now. Also, they're slightly stiffer which makes it worse. I liked how loose the dualshock 3 sticks were.
