Going from COD to Battlefield is a pretty shocking change

I just started playing BF4 multi, haven't never played BF multiplayer before and my ass is getting handed to me. Even when I think I got the drop on someone he kills me first. If any of you had me on your team, I'm so very sorry, strangely my team always won. I am having fun with it.

Hop into the OT if you have any questions, we can answer just about anything from a gameplay standpoint.

Call of Duty is terrible. It always has been. The fact that kill streaks basically automate the process for winning has always been a sticking point with me.

I find that Battlefield is great sometimes, and more often terrible. A lot of what you say in your original post is what we think in our heads as the ideal scenario when we pop into a game of battlefield, but rarely does it ever occur.

The game is absolutely fantastic when everything clicks. Unfortunately, those moments are few and far between, plus too much teamwork is required to actually get 32 random people on the internet to work together, its so hit or miss. (yeah, fantastic idea DICE removing a party lobby).

Anyways, COD is easier to pickup and play with a more consistent experience. Thats why more people tend to gravitate towards it.

I think the whole issue with getting people to work as a team is overplayed. Yes it's true people aren't communicating in voice chat but if you watch the flow of the map and where your team is going you can always put yourself in a position to make a large contribution to the match. If you die and spam the button to respawn you will wind up in the base with no vehicles, or in a clusterfuck meatgrinder with no chance of survival or with the one idiot in your squad trying to snipe from some random hill. BF has strategy involved in every facet of the game, even spawning. People who ignore that tend to blame their team for their bad experience. Not saying this is you, but I find that if you give a little tlc to the map then matches become a lot less frustrating in my experience.

Play as an Engineer, equip the first Carbine for now AK-5c (I think thats it) and wreck shop :)

Basically the engineer is the go to easy class that can do it all, besides healing/supplying ammo you'll be able to..

Have a weapon that rivals Assualt rifles (carbines are every class and can be godly)

Drop AT-Mines or Slams in high vehicle areas (they don't disappear after you die, but will disappear if you respawn and place more) You'll get pop ups 5 minutes after you died saying "Muti-Kill, Vehicle damage etc.." from mines you placed you forgot about lol

AT-Rockets or AA...your choice...
Repair kit, if that's your thing..

Most maps and games are dependant on "Which team has the most, and semi-competent, Engineers"...

Have fun flying! The damn best object to pilot is the Little Bird Scout chopper...and that's cause you can load Engineers into who repair as you fly. Hop in any other Air and prepare for AA out the ass to smack into you..best yet "Passive AA" which are AA rockets which don't alert the pilot they have been fired!

But, like I said...grab an Engy and a Carbine and grab some points and lvls. Unless you REALLY wanna do another type of class you will have almost zero disadvantage vs. any class or vehicle.

I've been playing BF since the old days, took a look at my old stats even today...1300 hours played...850 just on Karkand lol 6000 matches on that stupid map!
I loved my PKM...was ranked number 6 in the world for support and number 4 for LMG kills for about 2 years. Infantry only patch made it impossible to keep up once Infantry only Karkand dropped..I did that shit with APC's and Tanks rolling down the street!..once Infantry only hit Karkand became Nade+support bag exploit city..

The old days...Engineers only had shotguns, Anti-Tank was a class who only had PDW's, class had "Armor and Non-Armor" and could only take a few shots till they died (squishy snipers!)
Medic = God mode
LMG's had ZERO accuracy unless you were prone
AA was ONLY mounted at certain points of the map and a pilot had to manuver between them or destroy them (handling air was your own airs problem really...accept the fucking J-10)
Pre-nerf Blackhawks of death! Nade Hopping! Dolphin Dive macros!
Hell even the week I felt like a god when the PKM (Hence my name) was patched accidentally to have sniper like aim!

Just press the spot buttton and I'm OK.

And throw kit items. Fucks sake, RESUPPLY AND HEAL ME, DAMN IT. I am not mashing those options in the Commorose for my health!

I don't get why people say Battlefield > CoD, they are totally different experiences. I guess since they both have soldiers in them, but still. They almost feel like different genres with similar exteriors to me. I wouldn't play Battlefield when I want the CoD experience or vice versa.

Call of Duty is terrible. It always has been. The fact that kill streaks basically automate the process for winning has always been a sticking point with me.

They really don't anymore, it is easy to knock down any killstreak available. Only the ODIN is really powerful and if people where not stupid and just stayed in buildings until it passes then they wouldn't get demolished by it so easily.

This right here. They really cannot be compared. One is a tactical FPS, while the other is a arena esque, twitch based shooter. It is the same complaint I have when people knock killzone. Killzone is not COD or BF, quit expecting it to play like both of them.

Exactly.

In fact, I'd say they both compliment each other.

I'm feeling like lone wolfing it, I can jump on Free For All COD.

Some friends want to play a game together? I can jump in Battlefield and do just that.

No need to stop playing one over the other.

Thumbs up to OP Battlefield is pretty epic. Game is a sim of a Battlefield and using your skills to survive and thrive is a great experience. Nothing else like It. Still my fav was the original Vietnam.

Try hardcore sometime also a great experience in Its own right. Personally my fav way to play these days.

Mostly because they market towards each other at this point, EA is pretty aggressive (less now as opposed to when BF3 was being shopped around) with its marketing towards call of duty.

So much so they released the game just to compete head on, when it wasn't ready.

The game has made a lot of progress since, but all we have is hope that they have learned their lesson (don't even hope).

Nirolaks visceral prediction has me excited to see how they will market the followup.
Personally, i replaced my fast action console shooter with halo, and after 4, which i wasn't happy with.. Im looking for a replacement again, in Titanfall.

However battlefield will always be my go to series as long as they stick to their general formula.

The only REAL fun I've ever had with CoD is CoD 4 Hardcore mode..

Stupid ass perks have always made things a joke...that whole x-tra health/armor in 4 was wacktastic..then the ninja knife in another version..super running..etc..

I'll agree, as a console-only gamer who prefers shooters.

Halo and Gears were my prefered games, but I bought COD because everyone I know buys it.

Then I got to play BF4 on PS4. My jaw dropped : My K/D was horrible too because I'd spend most of my time watching jets fly by and blowing up buildings with c4.

It still doesn't play like butter as COD does, but thats not a fair complaint.

I'm with you OP : Battlefield and Playstation it is for me for the foreseeable future. (Coming from COD and Xbox 360 of which I've bought as many consoles as I have yearly releases of COD.)

Just press the spot buttton and I'm OK.

Between over 100 hours of BF3 and ~35 of BF4, my keyboard is going to need replacing 'cause I am just hammering on the 'Q' key the whole time.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't spot. It helps SO MUCH.

The TDM is BF4 is pretty bad, but it's also better than CoD.

you should have been there when BF2 was released. Spent thousands and thousands of hours at that game, it's so much better than 3 and 4 it's honestly quite embarassing

Karkand, Mashtuur City, Sharqui Peninsula, Jalalabad = best maps ever

Man this is the truth. Sooo many fantastic memories.

I can't go back to Call of duty. I'm a Battlefield 4 man now. I hear you loud and clear. I think DICE deserves more respect despite the bug issues. They topped the best game in the genre and ruined COD for many like me.

Good for you OP. I've tried the same and came back to ghosts. As much complains I had on ghosts, simply couldn't get used to bf4. It was just overwhelming where I had no clue how to get the groove. Also, miss the pacing of cod games. To each its own, I guess.

Domination in CoD is also TDM. I just think BF4 has better gunplay.

Pretty much, but at least the spawns do not suck. I actually haven't had a problem with spawns in Ghosts for TDM, but I play it very rarely as I usually only play domination. But I can see how you prefer the gunplay in BF compared to COD, I enjoy both of them the same (which is a lot).

The game is so EPIC. Skyscrapers are falling, Battleships are charging islands everything is just so HUGE it almost overwhelms you. The first time I was getting shot at by a 50cal the sound and impact of the bullets was so intense I just ran and ran and ran. I have never had a game jar me like that before. When tanks are blowing buildings to bits or a jet comes crashing down in front of you I am almost stunned by the spectacle of it all. It is so appropriate that you can now record your footage so easily and share it with people because in just this day there must have been 10 moments that me and my brother were both laughing hysterically at or were blown away by.

I agree with the above quoted; I play this game for the scale, except that you just called a destroyer a "battleship." I know this is a really small detail to go off on, but it's a nomenclature error that sometimes pops up that bugs me when it occurs, so a brief lesson in warship nomenclature:

USS_Wisconsin_(BB-64)_in_formation_1952.jpg

To the left is a destroyer, to the center is a battleship, and to the right is a heavy cruiser. Notice the size difference between a destroyer and a battleship. The ship that crashes into the island on Parcel Storm is a destroyer, not a battleship. Battleships haven't been in the US Navy in 15 years.

Again, it's a nomenclature detail, but it's one that irks me when it happens.

Well i learned something. That destroyer on paracel is awesome, but the battleship in the picture shits on it.

I love how even though there is some aim assist happening it really doesn't help you zero in on people unless you actually get your crosshair on them. It was so nice to play something so immediately challenging.

It's amazing that the level of hand holding in games these days is such that we're now calling a competitive multiplayer game immediately challenging because the auto-aim system isn't as forgiving as it could be.

Auto-aim just seems completely at odds with the concept of competitive multiplayer. I understand that a controller isn't quite as precise as a mouse, and Battlefield might have the right balance, but something about 'competitive multiplayer' and 'auto-aim' really doesn't sit well with the me.

It's friggen' great, right?

God I wish Dice stuck the landing on the game. You could've been somebody, 'stead you had to crash everybody.

Yep, there's a reason those things used to be flagships of entire navies: back when they were still being built, battleships would typically rival aircraft carriers in size (in terms of weight, battleships were far more massive than aircraft carriers), and often required thousands of men to act as a crew. If a battleship crashed onto the island on Paracel Storm... well, it probably wouldn't make it that far because battleships were also a lot deeper below the water than a destroyer is....

I can never support such a broken game put out by such an evil company. I enjoyed the beta but I wouldn't call the game mind blowing. It has it's issues.

Well, after reading the OP I feel hype. I'm not usually into military shooters but that does sound like a lot of fun. :-O

I'm so shit at BF4 so I play CoD.

Practice isn't improving it. I can see it's the better game but so hard...

- Get in the habit of reloading every time you finish unloading your clips.
- Find a gun that suits your style of play. Bigger and chunkier doesn't always mean better.
- Run, Cover, Shoot, Reload, Move, Help your Team, Repeat. Keep that in your head! Running and gunning only will get you kill. Camping only will also get you kill.
- If you are getting destroyed on those big maps then stick to the more exciting close quarter maps.

That is all you have to do. The rest involves practicing the above in mind. If you give your self no chance, i.e. if you are not patient with your progress, then of course you'll be deem as "crap". Truth be told, I thought I was crap until I had to change my mentality. Point 1, 2, and 3 of the above are the most critical. Try again and good luck.

I'm really heartbroken over the horrorshow that Battlefield 4 became at launch, because this is a multiplayer game franchise that really means something to me as a gamer and I can't say that for too many other titles (SOCOM is another, and a lot of stuff on SNES or in arcades when I was a kid even though a lot of those old 2P games are hard to go back to now.) This is a franchise made by people who are really talented and dedicated, I want to see it recover.

All they have to do is get rid of all the showstopper bugs if they do exist and shout out loud when they are all eliminated. That's all.

It's surprisingly chaotic, but in a good way. Once your brain figures out what to filter and what to focus on the initially shitty KDRs become much better.

To be honest though I've had games with BF where my KDR has been complete garbage but it's been a brilliantly fun match to play in. You can still gain buttloads of points supporting your team, and watching the battlefield evolve over the course of a match is really satisfying.

Take this match here: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/421872424939988416/175523850/

Not the most stellar ratio in the world but I had a total blast capturing and defending a single capture point for a while with a buddy of mine. I must have revived him a dozen times in a single engagement.

Part of the reason that I haven't been able to get into many other multiplayer FPS is because BF has always been the series I constantly return to. The dynamic nature and scale makes it feel so much more alive and varied than other multiplayer games and the emphasis on objectives and squad support allows me to be a top scorer in most matches despite not being high in K/D ranks.

This is what's great about BF. I remember a couple weeks ago I finished a game of Conquest and thought - "Holy shit I did terribly that round...."

Ended up with an MVP ribbon with 3 kills and 2 deaths lol

My only complaint about 4 is it feels slower than 3. It is almost a return to the pace of BFBC2, which I'm sure some like. I kinda wish they would have made BFBC1 on PC to see how that would have worked, on 360 you couldn't see anything past the fog.

I like both CoD and the BF series to be honest, I there is room for both and do not need to be the same. Plus there are a ton of people still playing CoD4 on PC so I hop in there at least once every couple days.

I'm with you OP. Always been a COD player but this shit cray yo. Done with COD. BF wasn't an option for me before though because the dog shit frame rate on consoles.

If you're riding in the gunner seat of a tank and you don't repair. I swear to Christ I will find you.

Good god, the one thing that drives me up the wall is this BS, with Helicopters.

There should be no repairing done by your teammates unless they are out of the vehicle. Its such a nightmare to take out a heli by yourself when this is happening. I know "It's part of the game.." blah blah blah, still it's frustrating.

I'm with you. I can't believed I ignored this franchise.

My first experience with Battlefield was with the BF3 beta, wasn't a fan so skipped 3. Played 4's beta and it interested me. Not enough to pick it up at launch (wish I did) and got a copy for Christmas.

I have very little issues on 360 and looking forward to getting a xbone and playing bigger matches.

Ghosts turned me off, waiting for Treyarch's next game. Then I'll play both simultaneously.

Played the hell out of BF4 before ghosts launched. Working on my 6th prestige and haven't been back since. Despite the problems with Ghosts the killstreaks have been toned down, the gunplay is the tightest its ever been and the net code is fantastic.

Tried to get back in with the next Gen and 64 players was to much for me and had me craving the gunplay of call of duty.

I've been playing BF4 nearly since its release on PC...

Early build actually played fine, it wasnt until they applied some of their patches that I began to crash.

Having been playing it multiple times over the past few days I haven't encountered one game breaking issue or random disconnect. I have noticed that their are some strange texture glitches at high altitudes in jets or helicopters, but otherwise it plays pretty great as far as I can see... (And that includes China Rising)

So I am one of those people that complains about COD every year. I harp on how stagnant it has become and how bored I am of the series yet I still buy the game and prestige at least twice. Finally with Ghosts the mediocrity of the franchise has caught up to how I have felt all along and I sold it before even hitting the half way point on my first prestige.

Seeing how much everyone talks about BF me and my brother decided to give 4 a try and figured hopefully EA had sorted out all the server issues. Prior to this the only other time I had played the series was BF2 which I liked but it came out when COD, Counterstrike and Killzone had their hooks all firmly implanted in me and I just couldn't get into it.

Me and my brother spent all day playing BF4 today and it is a fantastic, phenomenal change of pace. A shocking change of pace but a great one in many ways.

In the first place I have always been really competent in FPS games. I think the lowest my KD has ever been is 1:1 and its something I feel like I can pick up really quickly.

That has all changed with BF.

The first 3 games my KD was absolutely horrendous. I think my first game was something like 1 | 16. I can't believe how hard this game is! It is so hard and people all seem to know what they are doing and even if I got the drop on them more often then not they are going to casually turn around clip their toe nails and then pop me in the dome.

I love how even though there is some aim assist happening it really doesn't help you zero in on people unless you actually get your crosshair on them. It was so nice to play something so immediately challenging.

The game is so EPIC. Skyscrapers are falling, Battleships are charging islands everything is just so HUGE it almost overwhelms you. Going to the top of a skyscraper and securing the position only to then jump off and parachute to the ground landing and immediately resuming the fight is so amazing.

After all the games I have played on the new systems this is the only one that feels Next Gen. It feels like a whole new experience.

I think a lot of why I love this game so much is because it seems to take all the ideas MAG had and executes them in a much more creative and satisfying way.

Anyway goodbye COD and hello BF. I should have made this change ages ago.

Couldn't have agreed more, except for the last few words ' I should have made this change ages ago', well ages ago the BF games were never 60fps on consoles!

It's the Coke vs Pepsi argument for me, I hardly see a enough of a noticeable difference to call the other game the cancer that's killing the industry while hailing the other one as a masterpiece. Go play Quake Live instead.
