LOL. We watched that last weekend and it was fucking awful. There weren't even mutants in it!-viper- said:Not quite a horror film but still worth watching - Mutant Chronicles.

Yeah Eden Lake is pretty chilling...especially if you live in the UK, as it could happen so easily in real life. F**king depressing as well.
Hollywood horror is in a sorry state (The Unborn anyone). But I did enjoy these two:-
The Children (and so timely with the swine flu epidemic! They should have given it a full cinema re-release to cash in! :lol

The Broken (with Lena Hedley for anyone with milf withdrawal symptoms following cancellation of Terminator Chronicles)

And honerable mention for Doghouse. Danny Dyer and man hating Zombies. What more do you want? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8rsPuFN8wg&feature=related :lol
Do not watch under any circumstance the American rendition, The Uninvited. Atrocious beyond belief.Chairhome said:Some great suggestions, guys. Thanks, I'll probably wade through the lists and see what appeals to me. I'm starting off with Tale of Two Sisters.
But thanks again, and keep em coming!

I'm not against the Torture porn stuff, but it just doesn't appeal to me much. I'm definitely not planning on watching Martyrs anytime soon! I did see the Collector though, it was softcore torture porn, haha. Saw meets Home Alone (Fake Spoiler: The Collector is a grown up Kevin McAllister!).
But thanks again, and keep em coming!
Oh yes, TOTALLY THIS.brandonh83 said:The Mist (very well made and a great kick your balls ending)
Duuuude. Your avatar. Better change it before you get a failvatardonkeyspank said:Torture porn was a term invented by the media and if you believe their hype you are missing out on some fantastic movies. Martyrs, l'interieur Haute tensione etc.
Also, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Tale of two sisters and Lady Vengeance. Oh, Cronos is good too.

BattleMonkey said:I liked Rob Zombies Halloween. It wasn't the original so what, glad it was. Was better than pretty much all the shitty sequels.
I thought The Mist was a great Horror film, one of the best in recent years.
I liked the Strangers even though it kinda just went through the motions, I think it was one of the more suspenseful scare flicks in a while with great atmosphere.
No prob. I know I come into these threads and say most of the movies suck, but I least have seen them all. :lolNumber 2 said:THANKS!Been looking for that movie for a long time!
brandonh83 said:Dude, fucking seriously. Was it as good as Carpenter's? Hell no. Was it trying to be like Carpenter's? Hell no. Was it ten fucking thousand times better than every single Halloween installment after the original? Yes, in every way imaginable.

brandonh83 said:Being a horror film buff, over the years I have learned to train myself and look for only certain criteria in the horror genre in order to base my opinions. I can watch Gladiator, love it to the core for its incredible filmmaking, and then immediately afterward watch Friday the 13th VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan and still have fun with it.
That said, here's a breakdown of my more recent horror film experiences (roughly from 2003 and on):
Good
Rob Zombie's Halloween
Hostel: Part II
28 Days/Weeks Later (loved both, take your pick)
Orphan
Silent Hill
Friday the 13th (2009)
The Mist (very well made and a great kick your balls ending)
Coraline (reminded me of some of Lynch's bizarre work)
Drag Me to Hell
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake
30 Days of Night (liked the style and atmosphere a lot, end was crap)
Mediocre
The Host (gets tons of praise, but I found NOTHING to like)
The Descent (has okay moments, but the second half was awful)
High Tension (amazing first 30 mins., stumbles after)
The Amityville Horror remake (would be nice to a get a great AH one day)
The Hitcher (it's decent but very forgettable)
The Happening (didn't hate it but it was thoroughly plain)
P2
The Hills Have Eyes
The Orphanage (more of a drama, not scary, but otherwise well done)
Avoid at all costs
The Unborn (worst horror film I've seen in the past decade)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
The Haunting in Connecticut
BarrelMakingPenguin said:Why is everybody always hating on Halloween 2? The writing was on the wall for the series' future but I thought it was totally watchable. I enjoyed it much more than watching another by the book origin story. The second half of Zombie's Halloween wasn't so bad though.

BarrelMakingPenguin said:No doubt, the original Halloween is the best by a mile. The main reason I'm not a fan of Zombie's film is because of the first half.
The only reason I could be wrong is that the movie sucked so much I fell asleep.sn00zer said::lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
yeah right, so many haters for this film, yeah the ending wasnt great, but its one of the best monster movies in the past 5 years
Agreed it's not a horror movie. It's a black comedy. If you went in the theater thinking it was a horror, it's your fault.corkscrewblow said:Don't watch Drag Me To Hell. It's not horror at all and I had to walk out an hour in because it was so bad.
Goof choice. It's more of a psychological drama, but it has portions of j-horror. But more important, the direction is good, the script is good imo and the ending is amazing.Chairhome said:I'm starting off with Tale of Two Sisters.!
One of my most anticipated horror movies. I've heard only good things about it on the sites i usually visit.Caspel said:Has anyone seen Trick 'R Treat? I'm anticipating it on DVD since I'm not in the major markets when it was released.
