As I look at it, I'm thinking it's not really a "new" service. It's an additional feature and rebranding of Docs. They even got rid of the Docs Android app upon adding the Drive one, as well as the black bar link for Docs.I love new services.
Pretty sure that's a huge nerdy thing but checking out something new (even if I don't use it much) is so awesome.
I guess that's kinda true but I'm still pumped. As I look at it, I'm thinking it's not really a "new" service. It's an additional feature and rebranding of Docs. They even got rid of the Docs Android app upon adding the Drive one, as well as the black bar link for Docs.
Pretty sure the 25GB thing ran out long ago.kinda disappointed. I thought that with the big integration strategy for Google lately that this would be inclusive of everything you store at google. Your pictures in Photo/Picasa, Music in Music, etc. They had such good pricing for extra storage of those services as well... seems very ... disjointed... the only redeeming factor of it vs skydrive is android access, but skydrive blew them out of the water yesterday by dropping 25gb in for free.

But then that almost immediately got changed to 7.

I previously paid the $5/year for 20GB of storage, like gcubed did. How?
hot shit, i have it too. Well, take that complaint off of there.
Ah right.I previously paid the $5/year for 20GB of storage, like gcubed did.
That's good news, but I still feel I should be able to manage all my files up in Google's servers from Drive.
Ah right.
Yea it's pretty freakin' cheap. Dropbox prices are a complete joke.
Still not seeing why this is better than Dropbox though. Dropbox gives me 12GB for free (for loads of tasks I've done) and it works beautifully.
But then that almost immediately got changed to 7.
Awesome!! Can a MOD change the thread title?
Edit:
Disappointing that I can't select a folder on my phone to be set-up for sync! :-/
The Drive app is just a prettier Docs app.
This thing gives you less storage space than Gmail(7.7GB)? :lol
How so?Just grabbed it.
I like how it integrates nicely with other Google services that I use ... a lot more efficient than Dropbox.
How so?
What services?it integrates nicely with the other Google services he uses? Dropbox is awesome, but I can see how it wouldn't fit everybody's needs.
Gmail just got bump up to 10Gigs.
Google Drive tracks every change you make—so when you hit the save button, a new revision is saved. You can look back as far as 30 days automatically, or choose a revision to save forever.
Dropbox already has something like this. What's the privacy policy like? Do they look at all your stuff and close your account if something doesn't comply with a "Code of Conduct" (like Skydrive)?
edit:
I like the sound of this.
Dropbox already has something like this.
The desktop app doesn't give you upload progress (just how many files left). Yea I'll stick with Dropbox.
Here's the most important paragraph in the blog post that most people will gloss over (because Google glossed over it):
"Drive is built to work seamlessly with your overall Google experience. You can attach photos from Drive to posts in Google+, and soon youll be able to attach stuff from Drive directly to emails in Gmail. Drive is also an open platform, so were working with many third-party developers so you can do things like send faxes, edit videos and create website mockups directly from Drive. To install these apps, visit the Chrome Web Storeand look out for even more useful apps in the future."
Specifically the app integration ecosystem they're creating with the Chrome Web Store is extremely interesting. There's documentation for developers here:
https://developers.google.com/drive/
Basically, you register your app against certain mime types, and then when users install your app into Chrome, they can now open those file types directly from Drive using your app, seamlessly.
It's Windows' "open with" dialogue, except on the Web. That's a big deal, because while everyone expected Drive to offer features that compete with Dropbox, this feature competes with operating systems. I think it's a brilliant move that shows Google thinking ahead and beyond what Dropbox is doing.
yeah but it requires work. I'd rather just drop $5 and get 25gb
