Doesn't chrome sit ontop of whatever webkit version is on iOS? So when Chrome decides to add functionality not available in safari's webkit it won't be able to on iOS?

I was really hoping they would announce something big (akin to WebGL support). I don't care about App Engine or Drive API.

They haven't said but i'd assume it'll be safari's webkit as they're not exactly friendly with Apple atm. I will use it for bookmark sync etc.

the only way chrome on iOS can differentiate is with features. Which is more than enough if dem features are good.

Gruber:

It’s not the Chrome rendering or JavaScript engines — the App Store rules forbid that. It’s the iOS system version of WebKit wrapped in Google’s own browser UI. The pressure for Apple to allow users to specify a third-party app as their default browser is going to increase significantly after this.

All 3rd-party browsers on iOS can do is offer a better user experience than Safari. Which is pretty low-hanging fruit.

Safari's WebKit is pretty good, except for some glaring omissions (made so that the Web can't properly compete with the App Store).

Such bullcrap.

If it doesn't use V8 and its own WebKit then it ain't Chrome, I don't care what they say. Android Chrome was already pushing it without an auto-updater.

Then I don't see why people are comparing it to Chrome on android and not being available on earlier versions.

Sounds more like Chrome Mini on iOS.

Nice - the webcam and WebRTC APIs. Huge game-changers, but they've been in Canary for a while.

[edit] Why are people cheering for CSS Transitions?

This demo is VERY cool (albeit boring), but they limited themselves a fair amount by doing this just with DIVs and CSS3 transforms.

Old Chrome and old Google... memories. Love them showing the small UI changes.

This is a great video.
