Sounds like a terrible movie. I guess they're targeting it completely to kids which makes sense but I feel like there's a huge chance to miss out on the nostalgia tickets sales from people like me who read the books 20 or so years ago.

I remember the ending of that one actually making me cry if I'm remembering correctly.
At the end she passes on to be with her family, right? Or is that Let's Get Invisible? I remember one of them had the twist ending where the narrator was dead the whole time and they saw their dead family at the end and it was really touching and made me cry hahaha
.

Yea it was something like that. The ending was pretty emotional, probably why I still remember it. It was Shyamalyan before Shyamalayan.

I loved reading Goosebumps when I was little. Used to chew through those books in like 30-40minutes. I also think some of the episodes of the show were legit creepy. I remember The Haunted Mask episodes, Welcome to the Dead House, and Don't Go into the Basement being legit creepy for a kids show.

That summary is giving the Nicole Kidman/Will Ferrel Bewitched movie a run for its money in the convoluted and meta plots for no reason department.

Honestly, a kiddy version of In the Mouth of Madness isn't a bad way to approach something like Goosebumps if you're not interested in doing a series of films based directly on the books. The TV series already handled that, and I can't possibly imagine people turning up for Goosebumps Presents The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena.

i guess I grew up. I swear it use to be creepy.

Some of them were pretty creepy to 10 yr old me. You're not alone. I mean yeah if I read them now I'd probably laugh. Actually I do still have my books I should probably do that one one these days. Have a goosebumps binge.

There were like 10 Goosebumps books devoted to Slappy.

This is a very good point. While they could have easily strung together some of the books with multiple sequels (Monster Blood would be my choice as it was my favorite of them) this is probably the best way that they could "do justice" to as many of the creatures as possible by just cramming as many cameos into the film as they can.

However, it does make me wonder where they would go with a sequel if it turns out to be a success. "Oh no they got loose AGAIN" doesn't really strike me as a good place to go but since the entire idea of this movie is that the monsters are kept in Stine's books and they escaped... what else could they do with a sequel? "We didn't round them all up last time after all"?

Stine and the kids will get trapped in a real life version of Give Yourself Goosebumps, where one of the monsters that escaped is constantly writing progressively more ridiculous ways to try and kill them, thwarted by them picking the least plausible option for safety, filling it to the brim with CYA references (especially since Stine did so many of them outside of Goosebumps). Boom, done.

That being said, the format they have gone with doesn't really lend itself to a lot of unique sequels, but with it being aimed at kids, I doubt that the filmmakers would mind that so much.

That's actually a very cool idea. Well done!

Edit: Jesus CHRIST can we please stop quoting that awful awful image I never want to look at another piece of Scary Stories artwork as long as I live.

The poster "looks" alright. Looks like the kind of "adventure" style posters of back-in-the-day. Still, fuck teal & gold. Poster would've looked better with some actual color instead of the overplayed teal & gold shit.

EDIT: Yeah, add a bit more color than just teal and gold.

i like that they're drawing from the whole series, and that RL Stine is the protag.

really hoping this is good, as i LOVED Goosebumps as a kid.

Even though this tickles my nostalgic bones, I'm still not excited for it but will have an open mind about it. Man, the original Goosebumps show scared the shit out of me as a kid.

the original books ended when i was only a year old but i still have like 20 of them thanks to a used book store when i was like 7 or 8

they were 2spooky4me as a child

Count me in for hating the new logo. Too many fucking gnomes there too...

R.L. Stine had ghostwriters, right? Dude put out like 2 books a month.

Was there even a real R.L Stine? Oh sure, I remember the nebbish Jewish man they trotted out before episodes, but i know an actor when I see one!

Yep. That was the real guy. I wanna say he did the regular GB series, while ghostwriters did the other 3 or 4 series; same goes with Fear Street and its spin offs.

Welcome to Dead House still the scariest book in the series. I'll be down if somebody gets that monster mask stuck on their face.

Carly Beth and the mask are in this I think...

going for the Harry Potter demographic

Yeah. People who read Goosebumps were the hardcore types who just had brain injuries and didn't read Stephen King.

LOL, if you read Goosebumps you were a child too dumb to read Michael Crichton.
