I guess none of you have seen the TV show?

The show was scary(at least, tonally speaking, that was its intent). I was expecting something more in line with that instead of an action flick, and evidently I'm not the only one.
I love how everyone keeps mentioning the books but not the TV show, which I watched back in the day and then decided to watch every single episode over a year ago.

The TV show may not be the scariest, but at least it had a dark tone, little to no comedy and tries to be scary at times, creepy even. The movie's direction is an interesting twist though, but way too much comedy. I just hope it works in the end.

Dunno, I'm not saying make it R rated...but you could at least try to make it somewhat of a children's horror film...because you know...thats what the books are literally about.

This literally has zero resemblance to the books at all, minus a few characters being in it.

Theres clearly a problem if seeing Slappy the Dummy doesn't freak you out.

rofl, that show was goofy as shit, not even partly as well done as Are you afraid of the dark.

I mean, maybe the trailer is a little misleading? Maybe the actual film is a little different and spoopy 4 u

Are You Afraid of the Dark is the kind of show you guys wanted Goosebumps to be.

But never can be. Since it was actually tense.

Would have been cool if it was "Jumanji but spooky" instead of just "Jumanji." Oh well, looks good for the kiddies I guess.

Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door.

I groaned

My 5 year old loves goosebumps and watches it all the time on Netflix. She's so excited. I loved the books/show as a kid so its p cool for me too.

Calling the ending now:

Hannah is actually the Hannah from "The Ghost Next Door" and at the end, the main guy has to let her go in order seal the monsters back in the books.

But he finds a way to seal the monsters without letting her go and she becomes his girlfriend, because of course she does. HOLLYWOOD!

I read every single goosebumps book when I was a kid. Then the 2000 series started and I was done. Who is this movie for? Is it still a thing?

Those books are surprisingly good. Flunked the Planet has a lot of clever things going on in it.

Spoiler for plot of children's book from years ago:

Human beings are actually massive dicks to each other because everyone forgot how to be psychic.

One alien who's trying to stop the galactic council from either perma-blockading or blowing up Earth invented TV to dull the masses and buy time for assessment.

They explain curved space with alien spaghetti.

Basically: aliens = good guys, humans = bad guys.

My feelings as well. It's not even trying to be spooky or scary in the slightest. Not all of the episodes of the show were actually scary but at least they tried to be creepy for kids and weren't completely silly. I like how people keep forgetting about the show. It's not like it has to be terrifying but would it hurt to try to be just a little scary? Eh, kids should have fun with it but it looks bad to me even just as a film.

trailer was kinda rad not theater worthy for me but i will rent the shit out of it

its more of a nostalgia piece they are just cramming full of goosebumps references and i think the jumanji style was a perfect fit for that looks like it will be a fun watch if nothing else

Poster looks nice.

I remember often borrowing Goosebumps books at the library when I was in elementary school, but I just picked them because of the nice, creepy box art. But never really read the books, only a couple of pages. I've never been a big reader. :l

Based on the trailer, not the kind of film I'd watch, looks decent, but a bit cheesy, campy and it seems rather predictable. I'm probably not the target audience though, I mean it's a children's fantasy movie. :P

Odd. It's been many years since I've seen full episodes of Goosebumps, but I don't remember it being as goofy, wacky and slapsticky like in the trailer...

Isn't the whole new boy moving next door to a weird neighbor /potential girlfriend sort of...like generically how almost every goosebumps book started?

I'm surprised the main kids name isn't Evan or Trevor..

Goosebumps was never scary, even for kids. It was just weird and unsettling at times. I hope the movie at least succeeds at that.

The TV series at least didn't have shit on Are You Afraid of the Dark though. One episode ended with a kid becoming a potential serial murderer for crying out loud.

heh, I wasn't allowed to watch that when I was younger.

Surprised Slappy's not in any of the trailers..:/

Looks alright, might just see it for Halloween just for the heck of it. Does this mean they might be reprinting the Goosebumps books? As far as I'm aware, the last 3 books were never reprinted.

Slappy does show up in the trailer though. It's only for a second.

Slappy should be the big bad of the movie.

It would have been better if they released him first, rather than the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena.

yeah, shit was surprisingly deep for elementary school stuff

so it's jumanji with wes craven's new nightmare for good measure.

the trailer didn't look offensively bad - actually about the best i could expect from goosebumps. especially compared to stuff like this

Yeaaaaahhh....

Not feeling that trailer. Now the poster makes more sense, with regards to the tone of the movie. I can't be too surprised though, these were horror stories for Children. But this looks like fantasy Shlock.

This is like Percy Jackon meets Small Soldiers. :/

I grew up reading Goosebumps and I liked the darker edge to it. Reminded me of the Twilight Zone for kids. This feels like fantasy Shlock. Booo.
