If someone tells you something in private do you go and tell everyone you see ? No, you keep your mouth shut. What kind of world do you live in? Just like BISH did and just like everyone else who CBOAT PM's does. Do you really think this is the first PM he has sent to forum users?
If permission is given to post from the sender then that is fine and the whole situation changes.

Far as we know they only toyed with the idea internally, never committing to it like Microsoft did. Nevermind that much of what Microsoft wanted to do came off as insane and excessive: it's one thing to want games tied to an account, it's another to demand you always be online or they break when run locally. Steam and mobile are effectively purely digital download platforms but don't require that nonsense, and PC's an open platform while iOS gets easily broken into and Android's not very locked down. A closed platform with tight requirements for release like a console has little legitimate reason to be that locked down, even sharing can be addressed with a toggle.
Yeah, I'm aware we're not all like that, and it seems borne mainly from a need to have more jobs here, though that itself is murky territory and irrelevant with Microsoft vs Sony.
And yeah, what you actually do matters more than what you may have thought about, and in the end Sony didn't bring themselves to roll out in detail a heavy handed DRM scheme.

Yeah, our national nightmare is over - but the company that thought it was a good idea is still releasing the product and the lack of judgement and WT-fuckitude that produced that decision shows in recent Xbone decisions like Panello's side-winding responses to various issues here on GAF.

I understand why Bish hasn't spilled the beans, given his situation, but at the same time I don't understand why others who know haven't let it out. Why is this particular piece of information more sensitive than any other leak we've had this year?
1. The DRM decision may have been made public within few hours of deciding on it, so there probably was no point in leaking that
2. Same for always connected Kinect
3. Regarding the Indie program: As far as we knoiw what he said was true at that point in time
4. As for Titanfall: We do know it was only timed exclusive at the time.
The other news don't seem so important to me, really. And he doesn't leak a lot of game announcements (although of course I'd appreciate info on Rare).
While definitely possible many of your explanations are assumptions though. Unfortunately with insiders it's hard to verify if they were ever really wrong or right due to the fact that there's usually no additional, verifiable sources tied to the information. If wrong it's easy to say the information was "constantly changing" and that the insider was just a victim of circumstance. I just find it a little off that someone could claim to know about things like yield issues, certain game releases (PoP and Japanese exclusive) and exact DRM policies (like family share) yet pick up no information significant enough to post about the things I mentioned.
Listen, lets get back to the meat and potatoes of our discussion.
Do you think it is acceptable to post people's private messages without their permission. My stance on this is that I think it is not acceptable.

I try to support US based companies as much as possible. The economy is in bad shape. And btw I don't have a favorite console manufacturer. But the Microsoft hate around here is so ridiculous! Obviously Nothing I say will change that.
Maybe in CBOAT's mind, some things make for better surprises than others? That's a guess, not sarcasm or anything. Thread's too hostile for me to NOT state that.
But man, what people who are trying to say "He's been wrong before!!" gotta realize is that, whether you've been here for it or not, this Butt has a history. That is why he's trusted. I myself haven't even seen the full extent of the Butt; I think my first live truthfact witnessing was "shootbang with friendsd." But it became clear that there's a reason when the Butt talks, GAF listens.
And do people really not consider how quickly things can change in this (or really, any) industry? We saw what could've been PoP, now that might be AssCreed Egypt; Microsoft pulling 180s so fast some of us got whiplash... I dunno, but it's 4 in the morning and the amount of salt at every mention of CBOAT is too damn high. Even the people that do believe in the Butt, I know we like to fuck around and joke on GAF a lot but the trolling obviously gets to be too much at a certain point. It's just video games, y'all.
Probably something too big he doesn't feel confident about yet. Have to keep in mind sources are vital for a few reasons, aside from the more obvious fact checking there's still the identity to hide. Posting some huge news when you don't confirm it with someone would be an easy way to get flushed out and exposed in real life, and could even be bait though I have no idea if corporations actually try to do that.

Dude, what? I'm a proud American too, but that doesn't mean that I support bullshit simply because it's from an American company. Hell, I agree with you that Microsoft gets bashed just for the sake of bashing a lot here; but I'm not going to cut them some slack "because I'm a proud American."

You say that as if Sony doesn't hire plenty of Americans or as if any of them even manufacture outside of China anyway, nevermind we're also talking creative works, not tools or whatever where it won't be a difference between buying a product you'll like versus what you're "obligated" to buy out ofa misguided nationalist notion. I'd place more stock in supporting local businesses, certainly for something like, say beer or wine there can be a lot of great local options before you need to import.
I think this may be an issue as to why so many GAFfers have different opinions and get aggressive to each other. GAF is a multi-cultural Community and sometimes the reason why people don't get along it's because of very different cultures and mentality.
I must say at first I was surprised so many people from the US disliking the Xbox One. Why? Because in many places people listen that the US are a bunch of proud people and can only look for themselves. When I saw that many GAFfers were against the Xbox One based on the hardware or when those DRM's were being implemented (and now they are not) I didn't saw them as Americans but as gamers who were mad at a situation that could harm them.
If you ask me, patriotism should be the last reason the get a Xbox One, you are now a aware consumer, make you choice based on your knowledge.
I love GAF, I think everyone knows that and I respect every single GAFfer in here, I hope we can all contribute to keep the discussion health every time but when that doesn't happen I can see that a different mentality or culture is the main difference for that. We just need to accept that there are different people.
Hope this is not offensive by any means, I'm in Europe, I can't wait for the PS4 and I also had a 360, Kinect and so on. I saw how ignored my country was for the XB1 and how US-Centric the XB1 seems to be with their offers, apps and services yet I respect that. But this is not about how much a company focus on a country, it's about getting the best hardware for the money you are spending.
Mod Bishop made a thread with some great comments from GAFfer after the original thread was locked in order to try and keep a mature discussion, you can see polite people discussing there why MS is getting a bad press and why it's not a bad thing to, as a consumer, demanding the best for your money. We all want the best for the less possible and right now PS4 may be offering just that for many consumers yet people won't care and get the XB1 anyway. No one is wrong, again, it's just a different mentality.
would i personally do it? Nope...would i be particularly happy if someone posted the content of a PM i sent? No...but at the same time...if i was giving actual sensitive info...then i would make it very clear that the info was not to be posted...
but if the content of the message was similar to the one posted in the OP? eh...
do i think the OP committed a mortal sin? no, not considering the content of the message...and if you think what the OP did was horrible then Bish (for making the bunker comment), and Thuway and famous (for the comments about OS stability) are all guilty of the same crime...

Dude, that stuff is truly cringe-worthy. But I can imagine that's also the reason why many American gaming press outlets have shifted the goalposts and suddenly lowered their standards. Some probably subconsciously, others maybe even consciously.
Gaf is not all American, btw. Proud European over here, who played games on 360 for most of the last generation and will now make the PS4 his main gaming device - because I don't give a shit about your national pride for electronic devices and like what's best, just like the majority of Gaf.

So you don´t think the announcements with DRM etc before the 180 were bad? That MS can listen in on any of your conversations outside skype through kinect. The constant spinn on how their hardware is balanced and they are on par with the ps4 performance wise from executive people when the truth you have gotten the last few days tells otherwise. That the infinite power of the cloud and how good it is for gamers now might drop you from games when the server need to reboot. That upscaled 720P is 1080p. the list goes on
Sure Sony has dropped the ball too with delayed games and features not available at launch but MS this last year has been a machine for producing bad news and lies to gamers.
After the amount of hate they got post 180 I really thought they learned there lesson and be frank with people but it is clearly not the case.

I remember this guy in a NeoGAF thread with the same reasoning but was crazier and more hostile towards non-Americans. It really derailed the thread. He had an american name and a flag of America with an eagle was his avatar. I can't remember what the thread was originally all about but it was full of laughter and bannings including his.

Something else to keep in mind with Microsoft antagonism: they have been proven to be very flaky about long term support. Look at some the devices abandoned over time and Games for Windows Live. Designing a platform depending on online while having a flippant attitude towards BC does not engender confidence!

It's new console release time, so everyone tends to blow everything out of proportion.
Both consoles will be fine, both will have big communities and 90% of the games will be multiplatform, Just get whichever is more appealing to you because there is no 'wrong' choice.
If you're not sure just go PC, or wait longer so you can see exactly how things play out.
You don't think there's a difference between essentially rewriting the complete contents of a PM and alluding to the gist of one?
