Yeah, it's just dumb. Once bitten, twice shy. Don't think I'll ever try to register with them again.

Even in spite of all the features PD has given you? Give me a break.

Personal preference, I guess. I'd rather have fewer features done better. I can get past the 200 cars thing, but I'd rather have cars that have more weight to them and AI that doesn't run into me over NASCA, kart racing, etc.

Woo! Nice OP! :D

Most of them are honestly about as intelligent as a sack of hammers. They need to start hiring people who actually keep up with things.

There should be a midnight launch regardless. Now we've got to do midnight launches for every high profile game, regardless of how many preorders.

EDIT: About the no cockpit view for standard cars...does that mean there will only be the usual 3 viewpoints for those cars ( behind car, closer behind car, and hood view)?

I'm still hating the collisions! EURGH!
It keeps going back and forth, it looks awesome in 1 build but then the next it reverts back and then it looks awesome again and then it reverts back again. Everything else looks good though.

Beautiful OP -

Spent the last two nights working on my setup, and my G27 shipped yesterday :D Will post pictures once its complete.

Couple of noob questions:

I love driving games but I've never played a GT title before, I'm more familiar with Burnout, Need for Speed etc. Am I likely to find this fun, or too unforgiving and "simmy"?

I really like the look of that Logitech GT wheel, will my experience be much enhanced by playing with a wheel over the regular stick? Does it make it easier or harder?

you have to get your mind in the right place. Its no burnout. More like old school NFS but still not quite.

Especially at the beginning with early cars it can feel slow, but it still feels good.

A wheel won't make you faster, but it'll enhance the experience a lot.

All signs point to no, you can't.

Yeah. I just called my friend and asked him about it. He -supposedly- tried everything, but didn't find a way to remove it.

All those dreams of driving in the night, with heavy rain pouring and no HUD. Shattered :(

Oh well, it still looks hot regardless. B-Spec is sounding good too.

Loe and behold, the idiocy of mankind. I called my local game store, it went something like this:

Me - Hi.
Him - How can I help you?
Me - Can I pre-order the collectors edition of Gran Turismo 5?
Him - Gran Turismo 5?
Me - Yeah, the collectors edition please.

At this point, he tells me to wait for a second. I hear him ask his boss something, I'm not quite sure what it is.

Him - Yes, Gran Turismo 5, we've got that in store right now.

Now at THIS point, I'm about to burst. I was about to scream really loud. I did keep my calm though. I joke around asking:

Me - For sale? Haha.
Him - Yes... we can put a copy aside if you want.
Me - Yes please! I'll be able to pick it up in an hour.
Him - For 360, PC or PS3?
Me - What? Haha.

I thought he was kidding.

Him - Yeah, which version do you want me to put aside?
Me - GT5 is exclusive for the PS3...
Him - No, it's not.
Me - Yes, it is... are you sure you got the right game?

He asks me to wait. One whole fucking minute later, he responds:

Him - Oh, I'm sorry. I was checking out the wrong game, we're not getting the GT5 Collectors Edition. Do you want to pre-order the regular edition?
Me - ................................ no thank you. Bye.

Fuck me. That is all.

Yeah, just make sure to never take a corner at full speed.

That op almost sold me the game.

God, night racing and travel photo mode are way more appealing to me than the actual driving simulator :lol

So can we actually B-spec race remotely?

You can now play Gran Turismo anywhere. On your computer, smartphone, iPad, etc.

On the official website you will soon find a section where you will be able to check statistics, progress, friends, but most importantly, play B-Spec races using live timing.

??? This would be pretty awesome!

Still dont understand how that can happen in this day and age. Almost every gamestore has a search option on their computers to bring up games by sku from a title search.

I wonder if I order this from Play.com, will I get it on the release day? All signs point to no, sadly.

Meh, maybe I just man up the 10 euros and buy it from a local supermarket

I had a similar experience at GameStop the other day.

Me: You guys aren't still taking pre-orders for the Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition, are you?
Dude: Huh? Oh, yeah. Gran Turismo 5. Which system?
Me: Gran Turismo 5? >_>
Dude: Oh. Yeah... *types some stuff* No, we're not.

I think I might jump in on this and give it a try, if only so other members of the GAF racing league can have someone to reliably beat :D

And at least I won't have to worry about making room in my PSN friends list! :lol

Do you guys think this game is still fun to play even without a wheel? I don't have the moneys for one right now and I don't wanna buy some cheap stuff. Is it still fun with a DS3?

What I can't understand is, with all the people that is fan of videogames, and the lack of other specific knowledges that are required to work in a shop, why there are gamestores where their workers don't know about videogames.

It's lots of fun with a controller. Don't rush into a wheel until you tried one if possible.

Exactly. Between that and the video of the AI running still running into you, I'm holding out for used now.

I'm probably going to get a GT5 pack on December 7th but it is going to be good seeing some realistic impressions before I pick it up. I could still always get the 300 euro bundle without GT5.

yes, of course. Fuck, don't let all this talk of hydraulic motion cockpits and special mohair driving gloves put you off - its just a bunch of GT fans getting psyched up. You can have a great time with a controller. A wheel will feel great, but IMO if you have a wheel you need a proper stand so it doesn't wobble, and be able to put it in a position where you can sit properly in front of your TV. So its not for everyone.

Heh I have the same problem whenever we end up hiring some seasonal help or if someone turns in an application. The application even has a spot for Video game knowledge that you have to fill out.

So far at our Gamestop, we really dont have that problem, but I've seen it happen at other stores. Now fanboyism is a problem we do have :lol

Yes it is. The same case between playing a fighting game using an Arcade stick and a controller. At least that was my GT3/GT4 experience.

Let's be friends and team up to destroy firewire.

Sending you a request later on. :D

Like others said yes you should be good but I want to add that you should not feel shy in enabling the steering assists among other assists for the controller. A steering assist does not make the game any more arcadey it smooths out your inputs to be less twitchy.

When I got ModNation Racers I also got some plastic triggers to add to my DS3 and it works extremely well I can't recommend those enough for people racing with the DS3. They cost $10 and were well worth it.

Guys, I have milk in my fridge, and GT5 will be in my hands before it goes off.

OH JEEZUS WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES

I have milk in my pants and it will be in my hands when I go off on the 24th.

Oh god, I think I forgot to take my medication again.

I'm soooo pumped for this game right now. You people make this harder to wait than it should be.

Oh thanks for the comments. I guess I will be getting this game then.

Back in the N64 days, I had a wheel I always used while playing F1 World Grand Prix (I and II) and I always hated going back to the controller :lol though the wheel was probably pretty shitty compared to most wheels available nowadays.

BTW, if sometime down the line I decide to buy a wheel, which one would you guys suggest? That Driving Force one looks pretty cool.

Although I have a favorable opinion of their customer service and their prices are usually competitive, the purchasing process itself is a living hell. I'm scared of buying from dvd.co.uk because their mail sometimes takes over 20 day to arrive here and they sometimes hit the custom's office. And if any of those happen, I'm screwed. :|

I have no idea why you are offshore have so many problems with shopto, would gladly drop by pants for them looking at their past service. I always received new games at least 1 day before release from them but my last purchase was during 2008 so maybe things have changed. Anyway it will be interesting to see when I get the game from them, already fully paid it off.

Just found out I've had this in my newegg pre-order for a while now. I got it for $47.99.
Are they gonna jack up the price once it hits retail?

Don't worry, the racing league will have casual races too. I am really looking forward to it.
But I have to recommend a wheel, it will change the way you look at racing games.

the driving force GT is the best bang for your buck and can be had for <100 fairly easily.

if you want to get nuts, go for a logitech G27 or a fanatec porsche wheel

I'd echo this advice.

I've purchased a few games from ShopTo such as Killzone 2, NFS Shift and God Of War 3 as well as my PS3 slim and their service has been nothing short of brilliant. I have had absolutely no problems with them whatsoever and they happily accepted a game I needed to return too. Delivery came a day early and they have one of the best prices when it comes to new games.

An exceptional OT for will be an undoubtedly exceptional game. Good job.

So I know we're all waiting for the game and have probably talked about everything six to twelve times but I would like to know what everyone is going to do first when they fire this baby up. I think I will probably spend about an hour or more just browsing through the menus and then maybe do a quick race just to get the feel for it. After that I will start the license tests slowly and take my time.

It's honestly a lot more shocking if you only play arcade games... because unlike those, you have to brake... a lot. And if you don't follow even decent lines, you're gonna be fucked.

You'll learn the way courses flow after practice. This is a practice series. Best part is the feeling of driving vehicles with the best vehicle physics simulator on the market. Like, as a car lover, and also not a RICH guy, I'm never gonna get to drive some of the top tier cars with this level of realism (let alone on these exactly recreated tracks) so it's like a dream :lol

Driving in Gran Turismo isn't too difficult as long as you know the basics of car driving - such as braking before entering a corner. :P (hardly anyone brakes in most racing games!)

There is a driving line and the standard physics mode should be appropriate for any newcomer to the series. Also there are license tests which will teach you the basics of getting around a track. The hard part is driving fast! I fail at this part. My lap times are never great. :P
