Could be a online feed to something like wikipedia. In GT5P it was just a bunch of pictures with text, imagine if in GT5 it gets that stuff constantly from PD servers, same way GT5P gets online replays automatically.

I really hope they let you disable the HUD sometime with a patch. I play all my racing games that way, in-cockpit. Still going to play the hell out of it, but you'd think something that bills itself as the real driving simulator would let you turn off that crap.

What I never understood about the blinking indicator is that we all know Kaz is a perfectionist, and we all know that he's also a pretty hardcore driver. It seems odd that he's perfectly okay with this permanent blinking red shift indicator in his game when he strives for such realism elsewhere.

Maybe it's just one of those things he's so used to after working on the series for so long. That's the only thing that makes sense to me in this case.

why do people keep calling it a brake indicator? Isn't it just a recommended gear indicator? Doesn't mean you have to brake, just telling you what gear to be in for the corner. I like it - it lets me turn off the racing line and still have some guidance while learning tracks.

Agree about the HUD though - a simple HUD options screen with checkboxes for each item would be enough and simple to do. Plenty of other games already do this.


Although reading some of Amar's comments (have to manually set assists for every license test?) does sound like Polyphony just not learning from the best examples of the genre over the years. Idiosyncratic maybe, but also annoying.

I've been eyeing that thing pretty hard, but I'd really like to find one that doesn't place the G27 shifter right next to the wheel. I've been looking at the APIGA AP2 for this reason:

But I've read some reviews that say it wobbles pretty bad under the force feedback, especially with the wheel mount extended (I'm 6'4, so I'd have to extend it).

I'm gonna go to Ikea tomorrow and see if I can't jerry-rig something that would be both practical and somewhat attractive.

I've been using the Wheelstand Pro with my G27 for the last 3 days now with the Dirt 2 demo. It is incredibly sturdy and doesn't wobble at all for me with the force feedback.

Because it will flash even if you're in the "recommended" gear for the corner if you're still going too fast. And yes, it's another useful aid, the issue stems from not being able to turn it off.

The racing game with the greatest graphics of all time, the one that puts realism and attention to details in the first place, doesn't have a stupid option to remove the incredible amount of visual noise that's on-screen.

Not sure about the Citroen wheel, but the F1 fix only took a couple of weeks. Same with the adding online patch to the JP version. I actually like the gear indicator, but it is stupid to not have an option to turn different hud elements off as it would be a very easy thing for them to do.

There's going to be uproar from those who don't have their PS3s connected. Especially given it seems to concern the museum mode (offline) and career above a certain difficulty (offline).

WOW that is seriously fucked up, some serious way to screw over offline customers. Again though it just does not make any sense to me at all, the error says "not available in this version" or something along those lines, that implies the feature is not actually in the game. I would expect it to say "connect to PSN" because there is a big difference between that and an error saying a feature is not in the game. Can games do that millennium bug thing that happened with the PS3? So even these features unlock when it comes to a certain date without being online?

I watched the England/France game tonight and at half time there was an ad for a car game, my eyes lit up for a millisecond until I realised it was for Need For Speed (available soon on Xbox 360 at the end of the ad of course). What are they playing at. Gran Turismo is a monster in the UK. A huge number of GT's demographic are sat watching the laughable England team a week prior to release and you don't take the opportunity to plug your game, craziness
