Gran Turismo 5 |OT| an Ode to the Automobile

The standard whining is so overrated. No shit, the cars look like crap when magnified to the tenth degree, but seeing it in my tv, they certainly look better than their GT4 counterparts.

Yeah you can tell the detail is less than Premium, but the internets blow the comparison way out of proportions.

Anyway, screw you guys. I wont be seeing you for quite some time. Enjoy the game fellas :D

Well, my Amazon delivery is is some kind of limbo, so it looks like I won't be able to play until late next week. They gave me $10 credit and I ended up canceled Prime.

You just cannot depend upon Release Day delivery. Bummer.

Getting gold in S-9 is pissing me off - it's the only one I'm stuck on.

The computer can run into me at full speed and send me off the course and I get DQ'd.

I'm in 1st at just over a minute into the race, but it's impossible to pull away from the pack because of the draft.

EDIT: Nevermind. I said fuck it and let them have the lead until the last section where it's easy pickings.

Have you set the wheel controls to pro? Also try one of the RUFs if you wanna get raped.
Yeah, I set it to pro but not simulation. I think that might be the difference. Thanks!

On another note, after some frustrations with re menus and loading, a Toscana time trial with day night time change in a Subaru impreza wrx was exactly what I needed. So good. And the feedback on the wheel is godly.

I can't believe no one is talking about how improved GT TV is! The new interface and streaming options are phenomenal! I love it so much, super fantastic!

In the end, I'm happy with my CE purchase, and know already I'll be spending dozens of hours racing. I just wish I could drop it down to 720p or do something to cure the screen tearing.

Pretty sure you can, just disable 1080P under display settings will force 720P (you should get 4 x MSAA as well).

Edit: No idea if it'll cure the tearing, worth a shot though...

Just jealous really, Amazon Prime fail = No release day GT5 for me :(

Yeah, I've been on
November 24, 2010 07:29:00 AM Middleburg Heights OH US Out for delivery
4PM now. Hurts, shit better deliver today.

I never got an answer yesterday, but I'm curious if the livery editor (in any capacity) made it in? It was listed on one of their features slides a while ago but I haven't seen anything about it since then. I'm assuming no...Not a big deal, but it's a cool extra I'd like.

Shit, I even forgot it's back. And it's right on the main menu! :lol

Played for a bit today, always begin GT by golding all the licenses. Have to say IC-1 is complete lottery for the gold, don't see how it tests any sort of skill or builds any sort of skill other than pure reaction time.

Well 25 down, 35 to go on the weekend. Damn work.

Wow, what? Did you get CE or Regular? I got CE from them, and it shipped via FedEx and was in Oakland last night and now is out for delivery in San Jose. My friend got the regular and it was shipped via UPS to Fremont. I wonder what his status is.
Wtf..i'm in san jose and i have a fucking weather delay too...ce from amazon via ups...

I was, about 5 minutes after it was put up :lol

WTF is with GT Mode now though? I come home and find all you scrubs stealing my server access?!?!?!?!?

Amazon came through for me! WOOOOHOOOOO!

Going to leave work early, try and get home as fast as possible without getting pulled over! :lol

I forgot my wallet at home and don't have my license >_<

If you can go just a bit over 150, the fanatec porsche carrera would be your best bet imo. It lists for 159.99. Unlike the dfgt, it has a fully functional clutch.

It actually looks like it uses the same pedals as the more expensive turbo s and gt3 (non clubsport edition).

Inside sim racing has a review here that spoke pretty highly of it. http://insidesimracing.tv/videos/view/39

The Logitech DFGT is also a great choice in the 100 dollar range.

I bought my Logitech Driving Force GT for around $117 on Amazon. I'm sure you can find a better deal somewhere. I use it for GT5: Prologue and F1 2010 and it has worked great for both.

DFGT and Porsche Carrera Wheel are your only options at that price range.

I'm going with the Porsche (well, hopefully as a gift for xmas that is) as the G27 just doesn't have any customization and with the Porsche you get a really solid wheel and you can upgrade the pedals if the need arises.

Here's a good review (go to 24:00 or so)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8n8z5v6QtjQ

Unfortunately not a lot of people on this forum have any experience with the Fanatec wheel but professional reviews and just doing research say it's better than the G27 (wheel only) but the G27 has better pedals (which are upgradeable) and shifter (which I think is upgradeable also, but not sure) so I think the Porsche wheel is a good first wheel because if you really want to upgrade, you can. With the Logitech versions you are stuck with what you get (but the G27 pedals and shifter seem really solid so that's not too much an issue).

I think the customization really pushes the Fanatec up in my mind though.
Thank you very much for the input guys. I'll narrow it down from here.

The nascar events are silly. You spend more time in menus than racing. And you get a fuckton of credits and exp from them :|

Tried Arcade mode and rainy conditions. If you're in the cockpit view, you literally don't see anything but grey steam... it's unplayable until you fall behind or get to first position. Same with snow rally. You don't even notice the hailing on other cameras, but in cockpit the window is full of "snow"...

I have almost 1 million creds now... and I still have my first Civic :lol

What to buy...

Hell yes I am ready gaf!

I really hope that is the case.

they already have 200+ PS4 ready cars. That would give them 3-4 years to work on tracks + refine everything currently in GT5

I'd support that decision IF they did several big expansions to GT5 while working on significant patches in parallel. Four years is just too big of a gap, IMO, if there's nothing in between.

Where's the best place to start? Should I just jump right into A-Spec mode? I haven't played a proper GT since GT3.
It's actually structured pretty well at guiding you along with the whole level system.

I did license tests until I was level restricted, and then hit up some Special Events. The Special Events available to you early on are an easy way to build some credits and experience, and the cars required for them are provided to you, so you aren't spending anything.

I want them to scrap all the standard cars and only remodel the interesting cars from that pack.

Quality > Excessive Quantity.

I'd be more than happy with 500 'premiums' in GT6 than some crappy divide.

They did some big expansions to Prologue.

Spec III represented a SIGNIFICANT update to the game.

I was able to play one arcade race in a fiat 500 before I had to leave to catch the train. It was incredible. Then when the race was over baby by pnau came on. They have motherfucking pnau on here. Best game of the century.

I don't want GT6 on PS3. What they have here is great, just keep updating the game every month. They were pretty good about that with prologue

After doing a couple of races I couldn't take the loading times, so I threw some shit off my ps3 and i'm getting ready for the 50 min. install :lol

Definitely let me know either way since I won't see mine for another month (if I get it as a gift) and if I don't I'll be buying it around then anyway ... but I'd really like some actual feedback with the Carrera. Seems it's a great priced wheel but it's just recently released so not many people have experience with it (also because a lot of people bought the Logitechs on sale).

So after a few hours I can say that this game is very poorly optimized, has crazy load times for everything, terrible UI design/options, performs a bit on the rough side and doesn't look so hot.

But I'm completely hooked and can't stop playing. There is just so much content to go through and I'm really enjoying the actual driving mechanics. Surprisingly having a ton of fun with the karts

:lol Virtual Jeff Gordon Robot :lol

So what was the deal with the Museum option? Is the live-action footage from GT5P there or is that gone forever?
If anything those are in GT TV. Museum is just cards with car history that you can trade and stuff.

Did you find out what version of the game you had?

Check and make sure you don't have any corrupted files (run salvage file utility in options). Also, run the install again. Just run it and see if it installs anymore files. I was getting shitty loadtimes about an hour ago and after doing all that it's doing great.
I'm not even sure what version of the game I have :lol

So far I know I just can't take any photos from arcade mode.

I'll try doing what you suggested if that makes any difference.

If all else fails, I'll rebuy my copy from Amazon (at a later date) and sell this one.

Strange, I've been a prime member for the past couple years and never missed a Release Date delivery. Could it be your local UPS (or other shipping company) causing the problem?

My GT5 got delivered at noon today. I love Prime.

I just got the game, I had no install to sit through. It booted up, showed the intro movie, then I was at my home screen buying a car and now I'm doing license tests.

It's still installing in the bottom right hand corner during loading screens, and loading up each license is taking forever. Why didn't my game have the huge 40-50 minute install at the start? I don't even see an option for it. Did this happen to anyone else and is there a way to install now? I was planning on letting it install while I ate my lunch.

The Top Gear race with the VW cars fucking sucks. I can't be bothered to deal with that shit. SO. FUCKING. SLOW.

Same with the crappy Japanese 70s car race in the Amateur series. I've got a 110hp Nissan Bluebird and I'm getting smoked by the A.I. It's impossible to get past 5th place on Grand Valley. My car is just too slow. They haven't even made any premium 70 Japanese cars, and they still included this terrible event in the game.
