Keep the impressions coming guys, thanks :)

I got a quick question. Have they enabled the ability to spectate online races yet? If not, when is this feature coming?

Also, how is the netcode so far? Laggy? Merely acceptable? Or great?

How are your custom soundtracks looking? I've gone the always safe

720p results.

Tested Trial Mountain again (GT4 track port). Normal race has screen tearing. Time trial, no screen tearing.

London, normal race I didn't bother, time trial had loads of screen tearing still, in the same spots as with "1080p" mode and with cars on the track.

I may get crucified for this, but perhaps they should have had a 30fps option. Choice is good. (still run the physics at a zillion fps or whatever they're currently doing)

What's this about unlocking damage?

In my first race at A-Spec level 0 my Mazda Roadster got pretty beat up tussling with the extremely slow AI, scuffs on the paintwork and the bumper was visibly detached just below the head light.

Is there anything that you like about this game?

:D
Haha, fair call!

It's... I dunno. Maybe I had excessively high expectations and they're not being met? Maybe I'm trying to keep low ones so that when I get to the meat of the game I'm pleasantly surprised? I have no fucking idea :lol

Just doesn't seem as accessible as I thought it would be... being the first GT game I've bought at launch and the first one I've put more than an hour or two into probably hasn't helped, where I'm sure that pretty much everyone else in this thread has that experience and is used to these nuances that I find niggly.

yeah they probably should, but knowing Kaz its 60fps or nothing

I'd rather see them add Triple-buffering with one tier lower AA - it'd kill tearing without compromising fps (actually it'd likely make it more stable), without changing memory budget.

yeah, do that thing that you said :P

Or in this case, 57.1 ;)

lol yeah they are aiming for the right number but with compromises , but at this point, i would rather they would turn on all the online features (GT events, leaderboards etc...)

Hmf, buy or not to buy. Its like playing Street Fighter without a stick is it?...

Might as well buy it just to support some awesome engineering. What this game accomplishes, is just amazing.

tearing makes me physically ill (there's got to be something wrong with my eyes/brain) so I'll pass until a patch comes and fixes that (30 fps + motion blur option?), I barely played Prologue because of cornering with 3-4 cars in front of mine made me really sick and got tired of time trials. Ah well, I still enjoy real life driving :-)

So while everyones busy complaining about premium vs standard, they're not actually seeing the best looking part of the game - kart racing! That is some good looking stuff. Although, yes, the screen tearing in steering wheel view does suck.

Still looking for any and all GT5 friends to add, especially of the J/Asia/Aus-GAF variety.

OK, so you can't rebuy the preorder DLC Stealth cars. It's delivered directly to your Garage and not available for re-purchase. :/

Anyone have an extra code for a GT-R want to trade a GT-R for the Amazon Merc SLS AMG?

hmm looks like the Asian CE version is better here, all 5 stealth cars instead of the chromeline ones

Here is how my experience has been so far over my first 5 or so hours of GT5.

Install only took about 30 mins and seemed to be pretty accurate in the description of how much time was left. (320gb 7200rpm HD phat PS3)

The first thing I did was go straight into arcade and select a SuperGT car and do a 10 lap race on Indy GP with all the aids off on hard race tires and professional difficulty. I was immediately impressed with the handling and physics. A bit disappointed by the graphics, Indy still looked rough and there was a lot of shadow flicker on all the cars. The sound seemed just fine.

I cut a turn off a little too much about 3 laps in, hit the grass and spun out in the middle of the tarmac and several cars that were already very close to me did hit me pretty hard but other AI cars behind those slowed down and avoided the cars that had hit me. As I got going again another car did a great job of missing my slow ass and successfully passed me and I got him back on the next turn.

All in all that was very promising.

Next was the 380RS SuperLeggera on Cape Ring Periphery (2 laps) using the H gate on my G25. I had a hard time downshifting without losing control on Prologue and I immediately noticed that the clutch does not seem to be on/off and there is actually a progressive activation and I instantly felt much more in control of my shifting. I ended up doing that same race 4 or 5 times and watching a couple of the replays playing around with the different camera angles.

Next was a 370z on a driver's road (Toscana tarmac, dusk) I made with the course editor. I made a 7 section course and cranked up the corner sharpness and complexity all the way up and the road width all the way down. I was blown away by how much fun I had driving that Z on a course I made in less than 5 mins. Awesome elevation changes with cambered turns, gorgeous sky, and a couple of 5 minute laps is all it took for me to fall in love with GT5. It helped with Just One Second Apex Remix starting up right as I finished my first lap. :D

Did something similar with the Focus WRC on another CE location and while I think there is not as much grip as there should be I found it to be very fun and the FFB from the road surface was pretty darn good.

Made a 1-mile kart track and lapped it 10+ times. I love the karts and can't wait to race them online.

Bought a used Scion XA, got gold on all the national B license challenges; B-5 through B-7 can kiss my ass. Completed the beginner kart challenges and the NASCAR driving school (gold, silver) and browsed through the 189 songs provided.

What a game!

So I just tried out B-Spec for a few races. So far I think it's pretty useless and boring. If the make it possible to do it on my iPhone though it will be a nice way to earn some credits on the go.

it's actually worse, I can't imagine playing a driving sim without a wheel, an arcade game would be fine, but we're talking quick and subtle corrections here to compensate for under/oversteer when coming in and out corners, also the feel of the pedals can't be replicated on a DS3 no matter what (hands =/ feet), all in all the full experience is eye+hands+feet coordination.

I think that's the main point of it.

Damn, I love this game.

The first Top Gear special event with the VW bus was so awesome. :lol It took some serious racecraft to secure first place there.

Only had time to do licenses B and A last night, but I was very happy to see that we still get a separate prize car for each reward level (bronze, silver, gold).

Also very much digging the XP/career progression. Provides excellent incentive to continue playing.

1 down, 1 to go! Hopefully the CE gets here tomorrow.

Finally got it. Install took about 40 min. I decided to install my Kinect while I waited. Had time to set it all up and play so thats how long you have to wait.

Got my first premium car and now I don't want to go back to standard. Seeing them in used car dealership is painful. Lots of cars I want in there too, but after taking photos with my premium I just can't do it. Maybe I'll buy some for the paint chips.

Using the controller right now with remapped buttons, got the gas and brake on triggers. Nit sure why that's not standard.

Instead of loading custom soundtrack and the blank mp3 for racing I went into the track listing and took all songs in the race category off. Also turned on a lot of the jazz and lounge music for menus on. Love that shit.

Ah...my first third GT game, and my first since GT3. (prologue actually..whoops..)

There is nothing about this game that doesn't feel just like a GT game, the UI, the sounds, the gameplay...its GT through and through.

I always jump right into the GT Mode (arcade mode...whats that???), and am only the owner of some used cars now, but I think they all look and sound great, and the bonnet view with the HUD is an acceptable option to cockpit (I was worried about this).

Physics feel great...the nurgburgring special events (low level, 6 maybe) has a great sense of speed and how it is to drive an old tech car.

Nascar special events were easy, once you got used to driving them, and they look and sound great.

I can see the UI throwing people off at first, but its all right there in plain sight, once you get used to it, you'll not have issue.

Graphically, fantastic. Yes, some odd shadows here and there, but the lighting, weather, day/night changes, trump that totally.

Its not easy (especially when you start with a Nissan Bluebird :lol , worst first car ever, I get a big WTF for that), but once you learn to drive (use the license tests, they are there for a reason) you get faster and smoother.

The Standard cars look good...they don't look like the pics some people are finding, the berlinetta (yellow car that someone posted with jaggie tail lights) has no jaggie issues in game, so I don't know how photo/replay mode managed to do that (or how the person manipulated the image to support ANOTHER game).

Have not gone online...though I have a bunch of new gaf friends (PSN Skigazzi)...

Sounds are so much better than the last GTs....tuning options for standard cars are far better than I feared, basically its all there minus full body kits (still can mount spoilers).

OH, and I thought how they labeled the cars 'used vs new' with the standards all being 'used' was a kinda brilliant way to be like 'hey, they aren't quite as nice...they are used cars' was a smart way to reduce the OMG only 200 premiums drama.

Karting is cool too.

I never notice screen tearing, so I didn't notice any (i've watched video's on youtube of screen tearing and don't see it?) and have not seen a single frame drop or glitch....

Basically, if you complain about the graphics in this, you either don't enjoy games where you are supposed to look out the window of a fast moving vehicle (pausing at 150mph to look around...why?), if you think 'oh its too hard to drive', play burnout, if you don't like the UI, don't by games made by Japanese men?

See you online for Gaffers in a reasonably priced car challenges!

Why was replays removed in split screen racing....
History of 2 player battle replays:

GT1: full screen and split screen replays
GT2: split screen by default, full screen only if BOTH players tap triangle button
GT3: split screen only (full screen removed)
GT4: same
GT5: 2 player replays entirely. WTF?

This is such a shame, as the majority of my GT experience was doing 2player battles and then watching the subsequent replays. I really hope this gets fixed in in patch soon, especially the reintroduction of fullscreen ones.

To give you an idea, mine took 35 minutes to install exactly.........not long now........
Oh shit. Mine took, I kid you not, 2 hours and 40 minutes. Now I'm worried that my BC Beauty is on the way out :(

I think the PS3 itself is fine but you might want to replace the HDD.

Can't you just switch the HD? Could be the HD thats bad and not the PS3

*edit* You win this time Totobeni...
