Xater, I'm trying to give you the Lupo but for some reason you're not appearing in my list of people that I can give it to. I'll restart in a mo and see if that solves it

same. After a while you just get that knowing look which is a mix of 'you are just a manchild' and 'oh well at least its not coke and hookers'

Having just bought a pro guitar and keyboard for rock band 3 I'm still wondering how to get away with the pro drums too..

Beat the SambaBus race! *dances* It's not all that hard once you learn where you need to go full speed (or near).

Also I went and bought the Tesla Roadster. The gas icon is replaced by a battery in the fuel icon. Also interesting is that just like a real Tesla, when you lift off the gas or brake the battery starts to recharge. There's even an icon that shows you this. When you're on the gas there's a red dotted line that moving left in the in the fuel section. When you brake the dotted line will turn blue and start moving to the right to show that the battery is recharging.

That's really great news, seems like they really wanna improve GT5 alot, instead of leaving stuff for GT6.

Huh, this game was released without matchmaking? At this point its looking like Sony held a gun to Kaz's head and ordered him to release the thing in whatever state it was.

don't you just guess where to brake (wtf break!?) and note mentally where you are on the track. If you're too late you do it a bit earlier next time. Bit early, do it later.

Yes, a bit annoying, but just a simple iterative process.

and worst case, just ignore the licenses and get on with racing.

i only aim to gold though thats the prob xD im like 0.010s left to get it

I think that's pretty obvious. The core of the game is like a solid gold nougat and is the best GT has ever been. But there's just so much evidence they didn't have time to put all the pieces together.

Online time trials in lobbies is such a great idea, but then they let anyone start the race. Damage isn't really sorted out in online yet either. The mechanical damage apparently isn't in yet.

I think I am convinced now that Kaz thought it was okay to ship but was basically forced to ship it.

Still, whipping a badass car around some of the hairpin turns in this game is the best GT has ever been. I stand by it. I have not played a console sim that feels as good as this game.

The fact that this game can be patched and that they are already working on patches is a very good thing. Anything with online integration requires constant attention from the developers.

I can't believe that some people are actually requesting matchmaking. In my opinion, matchmaking is the worst thing that has happened to online gaming EVER.

Oh well, maybe years and years and years of playing on actual servers has spoiled me, but using lobbies is a good start. Actually, with the codes for lobbies, it's kinda like entering ip-addresses. Now we just need favorites-list for lobbies and boom, we got GAF "servers" running.

Metalmurphy said:
I agree. No harm in having both though.
Yeah, having both would be the ideal situation obviously.

Pretty much, good job of summarizing the situation. And as dark10x said, at least this time around they're not constrained by the lack of patching options, and I'm sure they'll sort out some glaring issues eventually.

(let's hope they'll add the option to disable the HUD sooner rather than later)

Don't really care about matchmaking tbh. It's the update on car restrictions and other stuff I really want.

I agree. At its core it's the best racing game I've ever played, but there are too many little design issues and flaws to make it perfect. Patches will hopefully fix some of that.

Well now we finally do get the evolutionary patches. After a few of them the game should be as it was meant to be.

it is, but it'd be nice to have some kind of semi-official place to put requests. Eg no-HUD, headtracking in GT mode and host-only launching for online are three biggies in here, but how do we get PD to listen?

smh
While I firmly believe we'll see GT6 within the next 2/3 years (SCE will to allow another protracted dev process), I also think that GT5 will be patched repeatedly over the coming months.

To be honest, it really does seem like GT5 was released at least 6 months early, but Polyphony will not allow SCE to tell them to leave it as it is either so we will see the game be "finished" as time goes on.

Frankly, if the base game (The driving model, car porn, track list etc) is as amazing as it should be, I am more than willing to allow them a bit more time to get interface/online details sorted.

I hope of one these patches fixes the shadows or at least improves them because although I'm enjoying the game they are really tarnishing the experience for me, seeing beautiful cars with jarring black flickery zig-zags on them, I put GT5:Prologue back in today just to see whether I was imaging it but I wasn't, it really is much better at shadows than GT5.

Wow, so I played this last night and I was shocked. Screen tearing, awful jaggies, etc. All the bullshots shown off prior to release made me think otherwise. How disappointing.

So you were aware they were bullshots but you still thought otherwise?

This game is going to cement the fact that Sony needed a better patching system. I hate updating that system. LBP first brought the pain and this will increase it. But hey, small inconveniences.

It's almost unfair how many Stealth cars I got with the standard JP version. They gave me 5 of them. Audi R10 TDII, NSX GT500, Mclaren F1, SLS AMG, GT-R GT500.

I'm just smoking the AI in many of these Aspec races that do not restrict these cars.

Great news about the patch. Most GT5 bugs and kirks i´ve seen are design choices that can easilly be fixed.

The core gameplay looks top-notch, and that´s what really matters.

I still can´t believe my copy hasn´t arrived yet, and i have a huge ass seminar from the 1st thru 5th of december, so if it doesn´t show up in my mail tomorrow, i will miss the first weekend of play :(

I´m glad they feel like this game is a living creature.

Until GT4, game was shipped and that was it. I absolutely love the fact that so many things can be changed/improved after release. We might get out HUD-less option after all:D

Yeah the shadows are my biggest complain as well. They jsut look wrong, like some early test version that should not have been in the game at all.

Got my signature edition today.

Man, I'm fucking pissed that the Euro/aus Apex magazine is missing the car list pages. Someone said that the coffee book would have those pages, so I was ok... but the coffee book is just photomode shots that we've already seen most of online.

Plus the GTR Stealth is a much hotter car than the Merc Chromeline...

And the wallet doesn't have a coin section. Goddammit.

The box is massive and pretty awesome. But you can't remove the foam insert. Fuck. Luckily the cutouts are large enough for practical storage of small items still.

Kaz mentioned in that article that was posted earlier that there's nothing that they can do about the shadows. But they can address the other performance issues.

I wish PD would also develop a PC version.

The amount of money I'd throw at the rig to make this game perfect... real time photomode quality visuals. Phoar.

What would you want them to do with the shadows aside from take them out? They're already having performance problems. The PS3 cannot be stretched any further.

I am really bad at this game. I struggle just to get silvers!!! I guess I should just do a run through of B license and get whatever I can get, then go back through for silvers or golds

they should have ditched the 1080p modus and concentrate on 720p with nice shadows and better AA. right now it would be better to turn them off...

Just watch the demonstrations that are available for each license test. The voice over gives you hints plus you get demonstrations of those tests from multiple angles.

Yes, the shadows are rough. The rest of the game is so clean that I guess stuff like sticks out. The online, outside of giving anyone the power to do anything, I think it's the best the genre has seen. I did like Blur's online setup though. This game feels like car heaven and everything I could have hoped for. Other than small technical issues, this game is a dream. I'm not going to spend my time talking about a texture or how standard cars look (they look fine in a race), the game is amazing. Car-PG is a good term.

And snake is right, watch them tutorials for the licenses. They genuinely help.

Maybe it's just me being out of the loop in general, but is GT5 being insanely under-promoted or what?

Honestly, I'm considering getting a PS3, my brother who hasn't played a game since GT4 is considering getting PS3 when I told him GT5 is out now. But I went to a couple of stores and didn't see the game promoted anywhere. I saw a few copies at one store but that's it.

They should be selling some kind of bundle deal and slamming that shit in my face everywhere I go.

Right, I have installed, updated GT5 and just watched the intro, and if I'm honest, it kinda sums up the game.

The first bit, a bizarre How It's Made weird thing from a steel mill to a car plant really felt over the top and mis-placed. The music didn't help alleviate the feeling that this isn't really what most people would like to see when they fire up GT5.

Then the car porn begins. While the song choice is..questionable, by the end you simply do not care, pure bliss for the few minutes it goes on for and I could watch it again and again.

Why does it sum up GT5? Well, from the interface, to the lack of online options to the love it or hate it career progression, there is so much in GT5 (And every GT) that has you throwing your hands up and wondering why you're bothered. Then the racing begins, you forget all the troubles and you enjoy one of the finest racing game series ever conceived. GT5 truly is a masterpiece wrapped up in chip paper.

The next update is due Saturday

"We received a lot of demands for having more regulations placed on the online play. We're going to perform an update on the 27th that will include things like max power restrictions and weight restrictions," Yamauchi said.

"Yesterday the online service was kind of in a critical state," Yamauchi said.

"The data centre was set up to handle 500,000 connections but the number of connections we received greatly exceeded that amount and there was a high chance of experiencing problems as a result.

"The design of the GT game really integrates the online and offline parts. So the problems online actually affected the offline play as well. Right now we've changed the number of simultaneous connections that are possible to one million, doubling the number, and we're trying to gauge what will happen, but we don't know at this point in time."

Yamauchi also responded to criticism of the online feature set, revealing to Eurogamer, "Online updates are planned of course for leaderboards and matchmaking - [they're] all planned in the process of evolution."
