so i bought a DFGT a while back and barely used in for prologue - i waited for GT5.

well, i'm using it and i fucking suck with it. its so much more easier to spin the car out with the wheel than the controller.

using the controller actually feels more smooth than using the wheel. unlike the wheel, the controller doesn't move my analog stick while im trying to carefully navigate around the nurburgring.

the slightest of mistakes will wipe me out completely using the DFGT.

help? the DFGT is making me pretty mad. i want to sell it.

Just stick with it... a month from now you'll look back at your post and laugh.

I've probably missed it somewhere in this thread, but has anyone been able to try out head tracking? Are you able to freely look around in the cockpit of the car, and how does it handle looking hard left and right or behind you (I'm assuming just a button press for the latter)? Seems like a cool extra feature in theory, how is it panning out in practice?

I figure it's most useful for the cockpit view, but it useable in hood or 3rd person cams too?

What are ideal settings for the DFGT? What kind of FF should I have? What is the difference between Amateur, Professional, and Simulation settings? What setting provides a more smoother steering input? The steering inputs of the DFGT feel fucking rough.

These are more user related than anything. I usually just ask out of interest more than anything. You don't get an awful lot of settings to mess about with gt5, unlike formula 1 I think.
On the g25, I go with sim, but I haven't noticed much difference.
FF is user preference, leave it on five.
Edit: what specifically is the problem? hand/feet co-ordination? wheel rotation? You can't rely on muscle memory, honestly, when you've built that up, in a few months you will wonder how you made it through on ds!

How do I change the controls for G25?

Driving with the controller feels so effortless.

I can go around the track WITH ease. I could practically drive with my eyes closed.

With the wheel, I have to be completely focussed and even then I seem to spin out at most occasions. The DFGT feels like a massive barrier to my driving, where as the DS3 feels perfect in comparison.

:(

Yes, that's the difference between actual driving and a fake interpretation of driving using a controller.

Be happy that now you're that much closer to what real driving is all about instead of lamenting your lap times. What you did before was a joke in comparison, no matter how good you were at playing the game.

I finished 3rd (out of 14) in the GAF Nurburgring Race tonight using Manual gears and the DFGT.

My settings were Professional, TC - 5, ABS - On, Everything else - Off.

Nothing better than beating a bunch of Dual Shock noobs in a 10 minute race :D

Just stick with it viper, you'll eventually reap the rewards.

Apparently, it's a bitch to set up since the camera requires almost-perfect lighting conditions in the room. It's limited to left/right panning in the cockpit, and no hard turns. Looking back is obviously not possible without pressing the L1 button I guess.

I JUST tried this out, and to my surprise it works by just turning your head normally... You might have to play around with the face-recognition settings in the options menu, but from my experience it works really well... I'm also in my room lit by a not-so-bright lamp, it managed to detect me fine, there's a slight delay but it's not horrible.

No shit, may have to give it a try.

Once you play more with the wheel, you'll learn to work "with" the force feedback, and the kind of information it's giving you. Once you get used to it you won't want to go back to a pad.

And really start slow. It's much easier to learn driving at 80% and ramping it up than spinning at every corner and slowing it down.

Pfft. I passed you a bunch of times on other tracks. I think I even kept you behind me in Kart racing.

If you're starting with the wheel and trying to tackle the Ring, you're doing it wrong :lol

I'd recommend starting with a mid-powered FF car on a simpler track, then move on to a more complex track. Then move to an FR car on a simple track, and move foward to stuff that's more complex. You'll want to master the nuances of both of these cars types w/a wheel first, and then start moving forward to higher powered cars.

It takes adjustment, but don't give up on it. It may be frustrating at first, but it's the better way to enjoy the game.

Thanks for the impressions. I doubt I'll ever get to try it since I don't have a PS camera and probably never will, but as I said it seems like a cool extra feature.

Karting on London doesn't count, it never happened. :lol

It is quite possibly the hardest race I have ever, EVER driven, the rumble strips destroy the handling.

Oh come on, Kart racing is 50% skill and 50% luck.

This very much! E.g. drifting or "saving" your car in critical situation is much easier with the wheel because you can feel the car and the limits. I'm actually quite amazed how realistic GT5 feels in that regard.

When my car begins to lose grip I find it much easier to prevent it from spinning out with the pad compared with the wheel.

The force feedback goes crazy and my car spins out and my wheel is left spinning like a crazy bitch!

Main problem I'm having is that the wheel tends to jolt while I'm driving, causing my car to lose grip and crash like a motherfucker. Obviously, this never happens on my DS3. :P

Is it normal for this to happen? Just asking. I hope there is nothing actually wrong with the wheel :P

I guess I'll try to stick with it. After all these years with a pad, using a wheel seems like a struggle to drive D: It feels like a handicap to my racing.

It's fun to play around with, but I wouldn't really use it on a regular basis.. Much simpler to just press the d-pad buttons. :lol

One of the menu themes is fucking amazing. It starts with some light piano, then comes a clapping beat with it, and then some bass comes in. I think it usually comes on after a license test. I CAN'T FIND IT IN THE MUSIC LIST :(

Anyone know what it is called or where I can find it?

Almost destroyed my ironing board :p

sure, but then aren't all (or at least the vast majority) of cars for those only buyable from the used car dealer, and so its a lottery if anything is available at all.

But you know the restrictions and how powerful your competition is. Then you can check out the premium cars that fit the bill.

I think something is wrong with the throttle pedal on my g25. I can't hit 5th gear on my mustang, and it seems as if my cars don't accelerate like they should. Where is the calibration tool in the menus? I've heard people mention it but I can't find it anywhere.

Any tips on how to get the Penniless trophy?
delete your save game, and buy 4 racing karts.

I'm not sure how I'll be able to get that trophy unless I do the same. I'm on like 3,807 credits - so I don't think i'll ever get that trophy.

Any gaf lobbies about then? Otherwise I am off to try the lotus top gear event.......again.

HATING THIS ONE....sometimes dq'd for tapping another car...sometimes not...sometime a hit cone says DQ...sometimes not...and the car handles like its on oil coated tires...RRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Look at the accelerator meter. If it's not going up all the way then there's something wrong with your pedals.

Man, I still haven't got my copy due to the TNT strike here in the Netherlands. I probably won't be getting it tomorrow either. Any other Dutchies equally affected?

weird, I've only played on my pc and all the games work fine there... I'll check to see when I get home tonight.

But is there a wheel calibration menu in game or in ps3 settings?

Grab that shit by the balls and make it your bitch.

The only way to get the penniless trophy for me at this point is messing around with buying/selling used cars... what a drag.

From Jalopnik:

Jalopnik Reader Tip #3:
To get the Penniless trophy, buy a Dhiatsu Copen Active Top and then go to the "Gran Turismo" Dealership and buy a Go-Kart. MAKE SURE you do this before buying any cars or doing any races, otherwise it will probably be a lot harder getting to zero credits.

The pedals on my old Driving Force Pro went crazy, the accelerator would keep shooting up and down while the brake pedal could only applied half way. So as long as your accelerator meter is reaching the top then it's ok. If it's not that then your Mustang might need its engine rebuilt.

Have you driven before? I mean this is how it feels like going 80 MPH and one of your tires lift off and land.

Ahh, right I didn't consider that, there's zero damage on it but I've definitely given it a rough ride. oh well I'll figure it out. Really weird theres no calibration for wheels, what an oversight :S.

Fellow DFGT users, what settings are you using for the wheel? Pro? Sim? FF level?

Also: on the garage page, is it me or is there some hideous background texture?

Truth. You're supposed to fight against it and force it to go your way instead of letting it turn the way it wants.

Speaking of Force Feedback, though, I'd probably say THAT turn in the intermediate Eifel karting event is probably the most realistic feeling thing in a game ever. Anyone with a FF wheel should know exactly what I'm talking about.

I can't do some events because I don't have the car requirement and the used car section doesn't have what I need. Is this normal?

The used car dealership changes daily (in GT time), so you need to check it every chance that you get as a car that you need could pop up there.

Yes because the used car dealer is randomized. Do some special events or license tests. You can win cars that are useful for races. Check back at the used car dealer often to see if maybe somthing you need pops up. Another solution is getting a car gifted.
