Alright guys, n00b question incoming, so please help!. I'm starting to get access so some faster races (right now up to ~405) and I'm using a Ferrari 512BB '76 that I tuned with better Engine (+2) and Intake System so right now it's sitting at 453, but the grip on the tires is horrible as I'm using the default hard sports tires. So the question is..

Should I go for some racing tires (soft or medium) or I can stay at soft or medium sports tires? These damn tires are pretty expensive, too, so it's not like right now I can go around buying them all and trying each..

Also, the tracks I'm trying to race in are the Rome Circuit (sunny) and Suzuka Circuit (sunny), as I already drifted my way through Laguna Seca :lol, but I can see this car, as it is, slippering all over Suzuka's curves :/ (I'm on the SuperCar Nostalgia Cup, btw)

Thanks in advance!.

You can help your traction by improving your suspension but at the end of the day, it's the tires that will do the most significant job.

Why do people insist you can't buy the Veyron? It shows up in te Used dealership for 2,000,000.

I DID IT OMG

GOT GOLD ON THE SAMBA BUS CHALLENGE

FUCKING FINALLY
Congrats. If you thought that was hard, have fun with the Lotus challenge. :lol

RAAAAAGEEEEE!!!

I bought a Cuda '71 and tuned it (spent more than 100k in total) only to find out that even with upgraded transmission it can't go beyond 180kph (stock is 200kph, but with slower acceleration). I am being destroyed in the Muscle Car Classics. Not even going to mention the Super Car Nostalgia race. Can anyone send me a Muscle car that I can use to win this event. I'll return it (is that possible?) or make a compensation. Please, GAF? :(

Unless it's a necessity, I don't really fool around with the big HP mods on cars. I'll add the ECU flash and do the oil change trick but I usually just stick with Weight Reduction (usually up the second tier) and some Race Med (or sports, depending on need) tires.

Forget straight line. The twisty stuff is where the fun's at. :D

Buy the Racing Customization transmission (the 20K one). Go to tuning and increase the top speed/final drive ratio to where you want it to be.

Fit a custom trans, best 20k you will ever spend.

yeah, the custom transmission is what you need. (I assume you also used the weight reduction mods)

With the custom transmission I can get to 351 kph in the lambo murcielago and around 342 in the 458 italia on daytona. (level 2 engine mods and level 2 weight reduction for each)

but then i adjust it down considerably more for races with the twisty bends to get greater acceleration at "low" speeds. before fitting that transmission, I was having a hard time getting past 315 or 320 with either.

edit:

easy answer: it's fucking flawed, man. it's great fun while driving and focusing on the twists and turns but there are a lot of flaws.

They're not racers.

If you're enjoying it then that's all that matters.

yeah i think so as well, since its going to sell anyway, but i realy cant understand how they would give other racing games higher scores and be so forgiving with their flaws but not with GT5.
they even said its a bad thing that it has to many stuff in it and choises, like realy..?
anyway off to play some GT5 i only need 2000 points for level 20 i think

I think it's a bit different with GT5, since the driving is about the only thing they got right, but they got it so right I am able to overlook the massive fuckups they made elsewhere. If you are not so interested in driving, you may not be able to overlook those flaws. I would rate the game a 8 or 9 so far, but I can totally see why someone would give it a 7 or even lower. It is just so uneven. Mighty high highs, but amazingly low lows. Other racing games tend to be a more consistent level of goodness or crapness.

Argh, did not read the description of the rally events properly. Mistook the <249bhp limit for >249bhp, so I just blew 100k on a tuned up Lancer. Damn :(

Is there no way to tune the car down to the level that you need?

bingo. I'm of the same opinion. I like the stuff it does right a lot but I'm not blind to the stuff it really fucks up and, if i had to judge it critically, I'd have to knock it a few points for that.

there should be. in the tuning section you can change parts to reduce hp. the only thing you can't undo are the level 1,2, 3 engine upgrades. those are generally the last things I change on a car since they're irreversible.

What are the default values to the quick tune menu before the race? I changed them and now I can't drive properly....

Don't bother explaning all of them to me, I know next to nothing to cars. All I know was that before I changed the settings, I was able to drive and now.... HELP!

The game's interface is as streamlined as a brick.

I'm willing to look past that because it doesn't bother me. Others (forum posters and reviewers) aren't. I just want to get to the next race with my real life car in game or hit up Bspec with K. Ronkinen or S. Gilles.

Again, I'm enjoying this game tremendously, just as I did Forza. F3's positive reviews didn't enhance my enjoyment, just like this games middling to positive reviews don't hamper it.

When I start dreaming about playing a game or achieving a goal in said game, I know all I need to know about whether I made the correct decision on my purchase. We don't play games to do meta-analysis. That's for Epidemiologists to do. I play to relax and enjoy this hobby that I've selected as a pass time.

I'm getting too old for this shit.

I have a 750hp 64 GTO that I want to race you with!

We need a GAF 'RetroRod' challenge...big fast cars that brake like oil tankers and turn like drunken (insert something appropriate here).

ouch! engines can't be tuned down i think

What's a good steering wheel to buy? My budget is 100-200$ MAX (i could go up to 250$ for something REALLY MAGICAL), i want force feedback and all that madness

Ah, never thought of that. I have already done the oil trick and upgraded the engine though, so it may not be enough.

I wish Community wasn't open to all, I'd like to have a place where we could all post our PSN IDs and start sending out some Invites to these kind of events.

Major upgrade. You know that elise challenge that everyone is crying about? SO much nicer with racing softs fitted to that car. Roughly speaking I can knock about 15 seconds off my Top Gear test track time compared to comfort hards. And thats only a 1:30 lap in the first place.

Completely concur. I was having problems with the Ferrari 512BB last night and found that Racing Softs helped a lot. However, I'm slightly ashamed to say that putting TC at 1 made it a far more reasonable drive without sacrificing a whole lot of power.

for 100 bucks, the driving force GT.

for around 150 to 200 bucks, the fanatec carrera.

for around 250, the logitech G27

for around 350, the fanatec GT3 with clubsport pedals

Sambabus & Lotus challenges are nothing compared to those NASCAR challenges. Well, I did get gold from that advanced 2 lap race in Indy, but no dice with Daytona. I barely got to place 3 (ONCE) and even then some dumbass AI racer bumbed to me causing me to fail.

More I play it, more I am sure that NASCAR is the dumbest form of racing ever invented. I just wish I could gold those those challenges and never touch them again.

I'm loving my Driving Force GT! Cost me $60 for a Refurd from Canada Computers. :D

this is the other thing I don't get - I think its 'racer snobbery'. Nothing wrong with a dash of TC now and then. Even F1 had it for a while.

They're piss with a wheel - much easier to hold a gentle steer than with a DS3. Conversely I golded the Elise challenge with a DS3.

With a DS3 you could try holding the left stick in the forward position, then 'rotating' it left/right to simulate a steering wheel. That can sometimes help with subtle inputs

Yeah, I'm quickly realising this. While it may make the car feel more 'tame', I like the fact that I can apply the accelerator without having to hold off a 360 spin on every corner whilst doing so.

I find the Lambo Chromeline terrible to drive unless I put some TC on it. On the Supercar Festival @ Nurburgring GP, I was probably stuck on the race for 45 mins because I kept on spinning out on a certain corner on the last lap (no assists). Then I decided to put TC on 2 and won the race comfortably in one go.

It looks like the new GT.com (with GT Anywhere) could be going up soon. The European GT sites have been down for a day night, the US GT site is a mess (won't load up the full page), and the Japanese GT site is going really slow.
