We're on a videogame message board discussing a historic racing car as it's represented in a videogame. We all are.

:D
Well, I knew we all were, but Dave surprised me there! :lol

I think the one conclusion that we can all agree on after the release of GT5 is that PD needs to hire about 75% more people for their team. They don't need more time, they need more people, preferably a western project manager and UI designer.

Luckily the racing is ungodly and that is all I care about.
Yeah, there are way too many obstacles that feel like they are just there for the fuck of it. Paint vouchers? WHY? Level restrictions on races? WHY? Anyway, still having a blast with the actual driving.

I'd say I have to agree. The driving is so good that I can forgive 99.9% of the flaws but I can't help but think that a slightly larger team and input from other Sony 1st/2nd parties could've improved everything else in the game tenfold. Hopefully ongoing support will reflect user feedback and the game will just get better and better.

:D I tend to hide my inner car nerd pretty well. My first words were probably 'Reliant Scimitar'.

Out of curiosity, how was the user interface for previous GT games (like GT4 and before)?

There's so many little changes on the user interface that could take away so much of the frustration i sometimes have with this game, for example:

- you can't sell a car that is being used (just ask which one i like to use instead)
- the driving licenses: you always have to restart from the opening screen (the one with the explanation) unless you are disqualified + you always have to go through the cup and car animation,... Driving license test are things you want to repeat often to practice, hence as little time as possible should be in between restarting
- a button to go to the parts shop when being in the car tuning menu (and vice versa). Parts shop + car tuning should be tightly integrated with each other and even the part were you wash your car,... should all be integrated under one part: car maintenance/tuning.
- the GT life menu looks messy
- the whole Car Delivery thing. Why not drop it straight into the garage
- the screen you get when buying a car is pointless (the car approaching animation)
- the a-serie menu (where you select Beginner, Amateur,...): would be nice to see what you have achieved so far (number of races bronze, silver, gold) on that screen without having to go into the menu itself
- more stats (like playing time in normal hours and not gt days)
- the hunt for cars. Not being a car specialist, by the time i get from the A-spec "typical cars + requirements" list to the used car dealer, i have forgotten which car i should buy for that typical event

These are just some things out of my head. I'm sure there are more.

Just wasted 300k on a Ferrari 458 to find its slower than a 512BB from the 70's....
NICE! FKNPSOFSHTGME........:D

it won't be for long... add some horsepower, reduce the weight, change the suspension and transmission and add racing soft tires. it'll be your beast and your go to car for many, many races

Yes they do. And for the love of God, let Kaz have a say for the PS4 specs.

The Veyron is a fucking boat round corners. Not even the ridiculously cool airbrake can save it

:lol

The Veyron is only relevant in SSR7.

eh, i got a decent amount of cars in my garage considering i'm not even level 20 and i mix it up for different races for fun.

but when it comes to championships at this stage, i don't want to mess around and i go straight to the italia. it cost me some cash to boost it up but it can compete with 700 hp monsters now.

There was no car delivery, you could sell a car you were driving, there were more stats, you could enter any race right away as long as you had passed the license test, no need to grind XP, much less hunt for cars, most of them were available from dealers, and the used list was a fixed cycle. Most of the other irritations are long time issues, but it seems they went so far backwards with this one.

I must have the Delorean. I have searched the dealership a fair bit but it doesn't show up. Bad times. Can I win it anywhere? Anyone willing to trade theirs with me, I have a Cappuccino just sat here doing nothing :P

Will it be competitive in the Professional Supercar Races and GT World Championship?

I would rather use a car i've bought and tuned than one I can win (or use one of the stealth models i've unlocked)

I won it, under B-Spec Amateur Supercar Nostalgia Cup.

DMC DeLorean S2 ‘04 (S) is the prize.

Pretty sure I won one for something.

Fake edit: Yep

Supercar Nostalgia Cup: DMC DeLorean S2 ‘04 (S)

Edit edit: B Spec.

I don't think I can gift cars from the PSP version but I would send it to you if I could. It's far cheaper on the PSP version than it is in the used car lot on the PS3.

Cars from the PSP game only work in Arcade mode, iirc.

Ah shit, I haven't even bothered with B-Spec, not really my thing. I may be forced to though if it means getting the Delorean

edit, cheers Dr, I'll get it some how I'm sure

The Gran Turismo All Star Event is getting on my nerves. I should be able to beat it with my Veyron but the damn thing controls like a fucking bathtub.

'04?

What's all that about? They didn't make DeLoreans in '04!

You can actually buy one, new, today. But they didn't make them in '04. I still want to win one, badly.

I'll be doing the GT championship tonight. I'll find out. :D

The supercar fiesta is pro series right? that's the one with the high speed ring, daytona and nurburgring gp circuit?

yeah, it can handle that if you really upgrade it like mad. i also used it for the ferrari cup and it worked like a champ.

- 30cm detachable wheel
- 1080º turning
- 16bit precision (65.536 directional values)
- force feedback 150 mNm, 3000 rpm, 65 W, 52mm

- pedals can be used in two positions
- adjustable brake pedal pressure

- €499 for wheel & pedals, shifter sold seperately
- releasing this month

I take back what I said about them earlier. These look like high quality stuff.

I might have to sell my wheel for this baby. :D

pedal setup looks nice but i don't think the 1080 wheel rotation will actually be used in game very often...

also looks like it still needs a stand. so that's a super pricey setup, all told.

Yeah the one in the Professional Series, My 430 Scuderia won that but it was tight - but it's only got stage 1 tuning/weight reduction etc.

Won the Ferrari cup at Monza in the 430, all it hasn't got is the top end as the Enzo would always catch up on the straights.

Or I could just completely tune my 430? (Saving a large chunk of money....)

I'm not sure there are many people willing to may more for a gaming peripheral than the console itself.

Is it paddle shift only?

Kaz via Twitter:
ステアリング&パドルシフトだけ。Hパターンのシフターは別売りです。T500RSの ポジションは、高品質でプレミアムなステアリングです。.
Translation (google):
Steering & shift paddles only. H pattern shifter is sold separately. T500RS position is a high-quality, premium steering.

well, since you already have the 430, you might be better served, if credits are tight, upgrading that one instead of buying the 458 and modding that one out. (the 458 is so nice, tho :)

the way the game handles upgrades (fairly predictably), you'd probably be able to easily up your top speed by getting level 2 weight and engine mods and then moving to the 20k transmission.

show that enzo you mean business

Yeah, I don't get how people can, and will spend that much for something. I'd rather buy 3/4 games than a wheel.

Yeah makes sense, I will buy a 458 though when I have earn't a lot more money...

I spent 80 quid on a wheel, any more than that would be out of the question for me. I'd have to be loaded and obsessed with driving games before I got something like that

Ok, I see that i'm the only one who fell for GT5 hype on the whole internet, what the fuck I must be even more dumb than I thought... that is more disheartening than GT5 itself :P
The one reason I did not fall in the same hype trap you did was that I had already had my 'fuck, PD can't be shipping this!' moment back when I first saw Prologue ; ) I realised right there on the spot that this GT will be one ridden with minor visual issues.

But you know what? The Time Trial demo came on, and I was blown away by something completely new, something I'd never felt in a GT game before - the sense of proper physics simulation. That made me forget in a heartbeat all the minor grievances I had with PD's current-gen visuals. And when I put everything on the scales, and considered that 90% of my playtime in this game I'll be driving time trials alone, or doing challenges that seldom have many cars on the track, I came to the conclusion I won't have issues with either the framerate, or the game's visuals (TT's visuals were absolutely rocking for me).

Add to that the cherry on the GT top (for me) - the godly photo mode, and there's my beloved GT game this gen. Now, if only my PS3 was here..

Yeah, but if you play a ton of sim racers, why not? Especially if you weren't going to buy those 3 or 4 games.

Hell, if I liked racers that much I'd be all over it ... but the Fanatec is decent enough for me (especially since it's a gift!).

brotkasten said:
No H-Shifter? lol

I'm stuck using paddle shifters on my fanatec since they were sold out of the shifter set when i bought the wheel. :(

they're supposed to have more in stock this month. i keep checking their website every day
