This part from the Eurogamer preview does a good job of describing the entire series

It's not just a racer, really: it's a Noah's Ark for cars, a haven that will never be touched by rust or sky-rocketing fuel prices. And although while GT5's been in development the driving genre has gone through plenty of transitions of its own, if anything, the explosive excess of contemporary titles has given Yamauchi's game even more of an air of class, as it ditches the dynamite and the levelling up to rely instead on simply being comprehensive and beautiful.

i think the photomode in GT5 is gonna amaze people, i look forward to either a official GT5 picture thread or something cuz wooow just woow.
i also hope we can make 10mp picture so we can upload them and print them

I hope I can buy and upgrade cars freely without having to worry about cash, any word on that?

I'm not sure I get what you're saying. Are you talking about them just giving you the customization parts without you having to buy them?

What they should have done IMO is have had the remaining cars have no head tracking movement inside the car so they only really would've had to model the dashboard. That's what I always assumed they meant anyway
I agree.

I realized afterwards that was a mess, I guess I mean... in GT4, it was pretty easy to make a lot of cash quickly, and you could mess around easily without having to worry about being broke.

That is not going to happen. Unless of course you have got GT PSP where you can transfer your game save to GT5.

Oh ok. The GT Mode hasn't been detailed yet so there's no telling how the cash system will be handled. Hopefully we'll get details about that from the closed door session.

So basically you want everything to be handed to you without earning it.

...Actually, I was talking more about cash not being an issue, so I can tune cars for fun, upgrade an army of Imprezas, etc. In Forza 3, it's really hard to do that so I end up hoarding my cash.

Currency has never been hard to accumulate in a GT game though!

i am disappoint with the lack of any weather changes in the trailer, but it's good to know that atleast snow will be in there. which probably means that rain will make it in, too. i hope.

edit: oh, it seems like it doesn't necessarily mean that snow will FALL OUT OF THE SKY.

Thanks again Blim.

A bit off-topic: I know you were a bit disappointed with the MS conference, but what do you think of Sony's then (I guess if you include all the game announcements leading up to E3 as well)?

I will buy the $99 edition. Can't wait.

Me too. I hope they don't skimp out and do a super-limited run.

and just lol at the replay captures. They look like photographs, especially the first one.

Sony's conference was much better of course. I was disappointed by the lack of Last Guardian (and I don't care the slightest about twisted metal), but at least it looks like Sony still has the gamers as their primary target. Microsoft on the other hand is just trying to go where the money is, and gave gamers the finger. Move, thanks to the pointer (imho) can be used as a real gaming tool. Kinect on the other will always be limited to either casual gaming, or very simple controls like Child of Eden.

The premiums have been lavished with a slightly worrying amount of detail - every single screw is visible in the hubs, the interiors have been recreated down to the stitching (standard cars won't have interiors, which is a bit sad, but there are, like, 800 of them),

WHAT THE HELL.

what are ''standard cars?''

ugh, this is extremely disappointing, especially since i've gotten used to it and now only race using that specific cam.

The standard "NO COCKPIT VIEW" doesn't make any sense.

I thought this cars were FUTURE PROOF? Six months to model each car my a$$

cockpit =/= interior

:D

i think sony is starting to understand marketing is crucial so just like they are doing the coca cola deal they should have a deal with top gear where they have some kind of tv with the game there and the console and have clarkson putting a time on the game and than the track.
i mean top gear reaches 350 million that would be so worth it to focus ur marketing on, since its car lovers and if they see the graphcis and detail on GT5. woow just woow.
its just in time for the season final for season 15 i think right..?

from the start, modelling the interiors of all the cars was one of their biggest bullet points.

and now only 200 cars will have it? that's only 20% of the roster.

I also do not agree with you.

I presume Premium cars will have 360 modelled cokpit, modelled engine bay and everything that can lead to "structural damage".

However, Standard cars will also have cokpits and so, but will not be able to showcase flying hods, doors and such.

However, time will tell.

Well most of the the guys at GT planet seems to be sure about that, but I don't think we've heard Kaz mentioning interior or cockpit view for standard cars, not even once.
If there was really a cockpit view for standard model, I'm sure Kaz would have said something already. Unfortunately for now, all reports seems to indicate that only the premiums have anything to do with interiors.

I've added two new videos to my previous news. One is an amazing looking replay...

The actual SURFACE MODELLING of Moulsane asphalt is just beyond anything ever seen anywhere.

Suspension-travelling driven by it is beyond imagination.

This is perfection beyond perfection, I still can't believe what they've achieved.

scratch that look here

Code:
13 7 21 June 2009 - 2 August 2009
	14 7 15 November 2009 - 3 January 2010
	15 TBA 27 June 2010[1] - TBA

they start a season in june and end in august normally and start another in november and end in january for the last cople of years so it would be nice for the season premiere of season 16

Schumacher in GT5 confirmed!

just to add to the confusion. :P

yeah I guess I have to add that it's a Top Gear joke, for those not in the know.

How long before I'm on n4g? :)

This is the first proper GT on ps3. Makes my head spin regarding the sequel let alone the next generation.

If its true only 200 cars have modeled cockpits then polyphony digital is an absolute joke of a company.

Prologue alone has already made the development costs back a gazillion times over and its not like they havent had enough development time...

It's not like they haven't been busy with other games, plus they don't have a lot of staff and don't out source like Turn 10.

200 premium cars should be plenty for me to keep me busy for some time. Still a bit of a shame though.

One concern though is, if only some cars can roll and flip, it's going to be quite weird to have cars with different damage physics models within the same game, let alone the same race.

Will premium cars only race other premium cars? Does the number of premium cars change the total number of cars in a race?

I still don´t believe the 200 Cockpits thing. He only said "interiors".. and by that I really don´t think he means cockpits. All cars will have cockpit view IMO, if not, then this game will have some tough times ahead from "certain journalists".
I Guess only time will tell..

btw. What cars are in the E3 demo..?

Can't some press guys just come out and ask Kaz for an unequivocal statement regarding cockpit view?

No, they aren't bright enough for that.

Seriously, some idiot needs to put him (Kaz) against the wall during the briefing tomorrow. Can't believe most journos are so stupid that they can't ask the most important questions:

- Clarify the premium-vs-standard thing once and for all.
- How many tracks and locations are there? Be specific and FUCKING CLEAR.
- How is the day/night stuff handled overall in the game? We've seen transitions during rally races, but how will regular courses work? Do we pick time-of-day settings, or will only specific stages have night modes etc.?
- What's the maximum amount of cars on a stage? The number seems to be dropping all the time, and this needs to be clarified.
