looks like it was cut out of the magazine ;-). They both look pretty bad put like that.

The one on the right is cutout from a photomode location in GT4

Given that there is an entirely separate thread regarding the issue with premium cars, I would suggest that anyone wanting to nothing more than vent their frustrations with PD (real or imagined, as the case with some of you seems to be) keep it over there.

Thanks for this.

FFFFFUUUUU

I saw the standard trailer a couple times, but I never bothered pausing it.

The old Le Mans cars being in standard quality is disappointing. I see a CLK-GTR and V12 LMR in that pic

I guess its safe to assume that others such as Sauber C9, 787B, GT-One, XJR 9, etc will be standard as well

I can live with the car models being "standard", but the blacked out cockpit view and lack of premium damage is what hits me hard :(

edit: m0dus posted while I was making this post. not ranting about standard here ;)

Left is supposed to be premium and right is supposed to be standard.

No, no, no. The one on the left is supposed to be the standard and the one on the right is the premium. Maybe. Who knows. Its a really stupid comparison anyway.

As always you should only take info from Kaz as official. He's said it's not locked down yet.
Yes definitely but I would like to point out that during the honda twitter questions when asked about it he only said "it has been locked down yet". Didn't give the 20+ number they have been giving for such a long time.

The HDMI port of the PS3 is incapable of doing 3D in 1080p@60. It's gonna be sub-HD, don't be nuts.

Or it won't. Youre talking about PD here, you know guys that did 1080i on the freaking PS2...

Guy said it was 1080p. He didn't say it was 1080p@60

720p @ 60fps is the max output for 3D.

There is also 1080i @ 60fps.

And 1080p @ 24fps.

At the very very best a 3D game can be 720p @ 60fps. GT5 is sub-HD at 60fps which is still very good (what you lose in resolution is easily offput by an extra dimension, no other graphics effect even compare). The only other 60fps 3D game heard about so far is SSHD.

Edit: I'm reading the HDMI 1.4 spec sheet and it also states support for 1080p @ 30fps. I'm not sure if TV's are capable though
(only a couple of the standards are needed even if the HDMI 1.4 cable itself is capable of much more, including 1080p @ 60fps).

I think Standard cars will have the benefit of GT5 great lighting engine so again they won't look that bad (people saying PS2 cars in a PS3). Having no cockpits sucks for the people that use them though.

I hope they just do the same thing for tracks as in premium vs standard. Yeah the differences will be noticeable but if you already doing with cars just go all the way.

Lets be honest PD can charge a premium for any type of DLC and 90% of us will grab it no questions asked.

Glad I'm part of the %10 then.

Thought I'd give you guys a heads up, Garnett Lee talked about the headtracking and 3D demo of GT5 in the latest Weekend Confirmed podcast. Sounds like he was pretty impressed.

In lighter news, the game ran gloriously at the show.

Thank you, that thread serves as a great filter for all of the tourists.

The game runs at 60fps in 3D. It does not, cannot run at 1080p. Besides, according to Kaz if it doesn't run at 60fps it's not a video game! :P

Since when is 720p sub-HD?

720p is not sub-hd. But Che believes the game runs in sub-hd when in 3D. Based on most console 3D games so far that sounds very likely. Ecspecially since it's still running at 60fps (which is actually 120(!) 2D images per second).

For what it's worth on GiantBomb podcast (Day 2 I think) they talked about an interview with Evolution about Motorstorm: Apocalypse. They are aiming for 1080P in none 3d mode so they can get 720P/60 in 3D mode. So we can probably expect the same performance hit on GT5. Which most likely means it will be 720P/60 in 3D at least.

Of course they forgot to clarify with Evolution if MS:A will stay in 1080P for none 3d mode or if that's just for targeting performance while programming.

Either way I probably wont be playing either game in 3D mode for awhile.

Logically, I don't think it makes any sense.

1080p is more than double 720p.

Although, maybe the game isn't really 1080p.

Man said:
1080p doesn't necessary mean 1920x1080p.

GT5P is 1280x1080p or something like that.
It really does mean that. Saying a game is 1080p if it's not 1920 wide is utter bullshit. By that logic 1x1080p is 1080p too despite it being 2,072,520 pixels less than it should be.

Devs words them as 1080p constantly though. Super Stardust HD wasn't full 1080p (in 2D) until the 3D patch released last week. It has been promoted as a 1080p product though forever. GT5P for example is promoted as a 1080p game.

Only movies can get away with that kind of logic because of different aspect ratios. But games are always 16:9 so they should always be rendering at 1280x720 for 720p or 1920x1080 for 1080p.

Well, it happens all the time.

I'm betting that GT5 isn't 1920x1080p as well but it sure is promoted as a 1080p game.
I would bet that 50% of the games promoted as 1080p actually does not have 1920 horizontal resolution.

They're wrong/lying depending on your opinion.

1080p is a short way of saying something is 1920x1080 and progressive scan. Horizontal scaling is bullshit.

For example, people will say MGS4 is HD because it's vertical resolution is more than 720, however it's horizontal resolution is 1024, if it was rendering in 16:9 it'd be 665p, subHD.

But to get back to the point, if GT5's 1080p is not 1920x1080, then it being subHD when in 3D makes sense.

I watched the E3 trailer in glorious 1080p (first 1080p trailer I've watched on my new tele :lol ) my god it blew me away. Seeing the Nur in bumper cam after watching GT4 youtube vids today really showed me how much video games have progressed. Holy fuck.

So is the driving line dynamic based on your speed?

I would think so ... wasn't it changing colors like Forza 3 in one of the gameplay videos? I wasn't really paying attention and can't remember which demo (I think it was off cam) video it was.

It may be true, it may be false, we should also remember that che is payed to spread FUD and stirr up shit.

The preview of GT5 3D by digital foundry didn´t indicate sub-hd but less AA, but that may have changed since then, night races and possible weather effects may take its toll. Hopefully some other more trustworthy persons can share their impressions.

Hmm, I didn't realize that GT3 had such few cars. It's great that we finally know what's what now.

Has the screen tearing and slowdown been fixed or improved from this latest build?

Over 200 cars is fine. The problem is will you drive the standard cars early on in the game when you're buying your first vehicle or go to the premium ones ( if they're available)?.

GTPSP has some great physics in it for a handheld.

Isent it safe to think that the new feature will be a track editor, maybe they thought you know what well put in 20 tracks and we will let the community make the other tracks.
it fits with the whole create play share thing sony has going on now.

i have a few questions btw for the people that have been following this for a long time.

since GT5 has the wrc license how many rally tracks are we gonna have, i mean we should have at least 3 tracks right cuz whats the use of having a rally license with only 1 track or 2.

also the rally track they have been showing now says snow as well, does that mean it has a different lay out which is gonna be snow ..?

all this talk of 1080p. Does anybody know where I can find 1080p versions of the trailers released this E3? Even the standard trailer one....

I very much doubt it is a track editor. Just look at the tracks, anything your typical user could create in a reasonable time frame would look horrible in comparison.

Nobody knows. But I agree, there should be at least 3 rally stages or locations, anything less would feel half assed. 3 is enough for a tournament or cup, with short and long variations and levels of tune to create beginner, intermediate, and advanced contests.

That's what I thought. But it doesn't seem like the track in the videos we've seen is high enough elevation for snow. I googled it and the only snow in Tuscany is up in the mountains.

I think it would be nice to have at least one dirt, one snow, plus one gravel rally course. They'll probably show another Rally map off at Gamescom. My mind is racing with the possibility of 40+ tracks. 4 Rally courses would be better.

You know there must be such a massive polygon count difference between standard and premium, they couldn't just be using PS2 meshes, it'd be a waste. The cars look way too rounded for that too

Were photo mode models a lot better in GT4 than gameplay ones?
