Grand Theft Auto Online (GTAV's multiplayer mode)

No, that was the DLC.

Nah, the actual multiplayer in GTA4 is tons of fun... when it works. The netcode was shit, the matchmaking would keep dropping people in the lobby and they would be unable to reconnect to the game. It was garbage. But if you get a game going and it works, it's TONS of fun. I played a variety of different modes with friends and we had a great time.

Yep. After dicking around for a while the realization came that there wasn't a single worthwile activity in Free Roam. The whole matchmaking/lobby system was absolutely horrendous as well. RDR was a bit better but still far away from being fantastic (or even great).

Say what you want about GTAIV's bare bones multiplayer, but RDR's was phenomenal.

Hopefully the online mode doesn't have barriers or walls like GTAV did. You know, limiting the size of the city you play in online. I want the whole damn city open for multi-player.

One thing to note, you can see icons for Racing (a flag), Base Jumping (a parachute) and ... a star, on the map. But nothing that suggests game modes like Team Deathmatch, or Capture the Flag...

Which makes me think, along with the crew system, that these game modes are dynamically implemented into the free roam arena of Los Santos in GTA Online. "Hey, all players, get some cash if you capture these territories", "You now own the territory, but another crew can take it from you for cash", "There's a armoured van roaming Los Santos; tip it over, open it and capture the cash held within and bring it to your territory (Capture the Flag)".

It was only limited in certain modes, for gameplay reasons.

Free-roam was the whole thing opened up.

Again, few different deathmatch modes.

They still can't beat SA-MP and MTA

SO they finally come close to matching up to the multiplayer mods that have been out forever on PC.

Anyone else notice the dollar amount on the top right?

I'd reckon what we're seeing is the player's safehouse. GTA online will be a natural extension of GTA V single player, aka GTA MMO.

As good as that sounds, it might be a bit of a reach for them. Their online games always seem to lag to some extent and don't let me get started on their netcode.

It could also just work the same as money in RDR's Free Roam. Get some for kills, and posse missions, etc.

True, but I imagine the money you get in GTA V can be used for customization and buying stuff. Investing in the stock market and having insider trading in GTA Online would be interesting.

The gang system in Max Payne 3 is carrying over to GTA V. I imagine turf wars and scuttles between clans/gangs will be one of the prominent features.

Having played sa-mp since the beta, GTA IV's multiplayer wasn't as interesting to me since I was already used to 100 player team/deathmatch modes, stunt servers, role play servers, and full customization of objects and items on the map. I'm not expecting V to touch it in terms of content, but here's hoping its a little more than just DM/racing.

Yeah hopefully. Money in RDR served no purpose since you couldn't use it to buy characters or mounts. If they let us use it for clothes and customization stuff like you say, it'll be an enormous improvement over IV and RDR.

And oh yeah, forgot they were making a big deal about Crews carrying over from Mp3. With any luck, the gang/turf war modes will play like Mp3's.
