It's a shame dlss is still not perfect because it definitely doesn't look this clean in my game. Especially when there are any dynamic elements like rain, sun shadows and other objects begin to flicker.

I will say this. The evening lighting in that desert town is fantastic. You third screenshot shows this There are no shadows or bright flickering lights, and it finally looks clean. I really like the AO here.

I booted up TW3 a few weeks ago and it looks a little dated now. I recall saying back then I was happy with this level of graphical fidelity for the rest of my life. It's amazing what 10 years can do. Below is a screenshot taken back in 2015 in White Orchard (tutorial zone).

After seeing crimson desert textures and how much volume they have, im kind of disappointed here.
Crimson looks incredible in pictures but as soon as you start moving, it all breaks apart with pop in everywhere, flickering etc. I'll take a less visually-appealing game with no tech issues any time of the day.

Yep, game never looked remotely as good as these pics on my end...

Did you run it on potato ? Witcher 3 is pretty old game at this point but still incredibly beautiful especially with raytracing added.

Can confirm that w3 didnt aged that badly, played a bit on ps5 so not even pc and i was surprised how decent it still look for a 11 years old game.

On pc with rtx and 8k texture overhaul it probably look more even than some modern games...

I'm hoping for a Pro update for The Witcher 3 when that rumored new expansion drops. It's already running RTGI on base PS5 and looks beautiful, so all they really need to do is add in the RT shadows and reflections from PC, and unlock the framerate. PS5 is already my preferred way to play as the stutter they introduced on PC is so bad (they should take the opportunity to fix that too). Also i'm a sucker for the subtle DualSense integration where you can feel the horse's footsteps.

At least the textures in Resynced wont flicker and have ugly black particles floating lol

My bad guys i did not know you were both married to ACIV :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I played 90 something hours of crimson desert on ps5pro and tho it has problems, i think you are not in good faith when saying it is a pop in and flicker fest. Gordon and I find the textures for the roof in this specific ACIV pic shows a lack of volume and look very las gen-ish. I know Gordon has an irritating way of saying things, sorry on his behalf, but that texture was indeed fucking flat and it would never get out of my or his kitchen as is.

Been playing SAROS. Game looks absolutely fantastic, and the art design is something else in the game, some of the best stuff you'll see.

YouTube videos did this game dirty, looks so much better when you're playing it in person.

Resident Evil Requiem with path tracing is making my PC work hard.

The frame rate took a nose dive in that Racoon city flooded parking garage.
It has been years since I've seen a game stutter into a slide show. Ah the nostalgia! But thankfully as soon as I got out everything returned to normal.

No, I ran it on top hardware. I mean the new ray tracing etc stuff does make it better than 2015 version for sure but it's the same foliage assets, same colourful art-style, no path traced lighting, etc. The atmosphere is still amazing but looking at it now after playing next gen games, it certainly looks dated. This isn't to say it looks bad and one can argue games releasing in 2026 like Dawnwalker are still looking like TW3, so it's certainly more than fine.

I wonder what they'll do for TW3 dlc and how it will look.

With RT update it really is not far from many current gen games (not top ones)

And no DLAA, it's broken.

What other open world games have better foliage? Some do, but I don't think the list is that long and with RT game has better lighting than all GG games for example.
Well, Wukong is one example. TW4 tech demo also showed a lot better foliage. And I know foliage is the one Achilles heel for pretty much all games, so I'm really hoping we get some advancements via mega geometry and the likes. It's great that TW4 will end up doing it first most likely. Can't wait.

Wukong is not really open world.

But yeah, TW4 and I think Crimson Desert have one generation better foliage quality for sure.

100%. I've said the same thing multiple times as I've been playing... their environment artists are some of the best in the business. It's truly stunning. And then all the particles, holy crap. It's gorgeous. And a huge step up from Returnal.

The Witcher 3 is helped massively by a stunning color palette and art direction (and Halk Hogan, to be fair). It is obviously dated, at times too dated like Kaer Morhen, but can look pretty spectacular at times still even without RT. Some (lots of) screenshot from PS5 version, Performance 60fps mode:

The complete lack of LOD changes in vegetation is also remarkable, even though mostly due to how simple such vegetation is.

Come on man.. basically every open world game I can think of has better foliage than OG Witcher 3.

I have limited footage but the variety is staggering across the various regions.

RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, all have significantly more advanced foliage than TW3 in the same generation.

Haven't spent much time with its RT version however, maybe that would make me change my opinion on how the game currently stacks against other open worlds.

Can't agree at all with GoT or DG. GoT looked dated even on PS4 in many aspects, DG had some very impressive elements (that we usually see screenshots of) but also many bad looking elements as well (that we don't see people showing on SS). RDR2 is probably better but it's also last gen in all aspects overall.

Horizon - yes, it has amazing foliage.

I recall Jim2Point had some crazy screenshots for Witcher 3 back in the OT. But yeah, talking about foliage, you can see even in my gif above those yellow flowers look like 2d sprites and appear very artificial.

Still, fighting griffins with the wind blowing and the atmosphere can make it feel epic regardless.

GoT was impressive from art point of view. But foliage (and textures) are constantly repeated assets. And even GoY is similar in a lot of aspects to that.

Grass is better than in TW3, but can't agree with the rest (like trees)

Geralt animations are a fucking joke. He moves like a ps1 videogame character.

Can't stand these animations and its one of the reasons why I always struggled to enjoy the game

Im using DLSS too, but in combination with DLDSR.
Im basically downsampling with DLDSR from 3440*1440P to 5160*2160P (4K Ultrawide) and then using DLSS Balanced to upscale again. This ensures the best image quality!

I'm confused? The roof tiles are clearly actual geometry here. Anvil uses a nanite-equivlanent tech so they can really ramp up polycount without worrying about it too much, asset quality (for geometry at least) isn't something I'm seeing as a weakness here.

The bottom roof looks good to you ?
I don't see depth, it seems to me almost like a stretched texture. I only use my eyes to analyse it tho so i might be wrong.
It could also be the geometry of the whole building that is last gen, and the texture can't hide the low poly count of the shape, but to me there is clearly something not on par with the rest of the picture, which definitely not look flat.

If i wanted to exagerate i'd say it would look lees out of place in the counter strike Italy map than in a assassin creed game.

I only have a 5080 and i can barely run it at 4k dlss performance with RR on. its 60 most of the time with slight drops to mid 50s at times but i dont notice them thanks to vrr.

if i downsample, wouldnt it have an impact on the GPU?

how can you downsample from 1440p to 2160p? i thought it was the other way around. Is there a guide i can use to try and see if it actually runs well on my 5080?

Im happy with the way the game looks on my tv. its stunning. just not as pristine as it is in your screenshots.

Edit: Just some them on my desktop monitors and yeah, they look fairly close to what im seeing on my pc. Saw them last night on my oled iphone and they looked cg quality lol

those are terrible screenshots. either someone took them from a youtube feed or its the fact that ubisoft sucks at taking screenshots. wait for Ravion, Alex, and analogfuture to take some pics.

Extremely bad screens, yeah, but if you zoom you can see shadows and AO and depth there.
I think those roofs just have that style, a sort of almost flat angle, I don't know why so many theories, have people never seen these kinds of roofs before? We should just wait for the game and see then.
