Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Hopefully they can recreate some of that dark messiah magic...

One of my favorite games of 200x

I will replay it someday (path tracing mod?)

Can't wait for next week showcases: wolverine - Cory Faye game-Harry potter 2 - Gears 6, -farcry 7-blood message - maybe intergalactic - those supposed to be on top of best looking titles this gen aside from gta vi, this reminds me of old E3 days🔥🔥🔥🔥

The amount of hate for the best engine this generation in terms of graphics is astonishing, people's deserve last generation looking titles I am not blaming any lazy developers anymore
did you see the thread complaining about pop-in? they all want nanite but dont want to pay for the cost on the gpu.

Yep. Unreal Fest just got a lot more interesting. They really need to be clear on why they are jumping to 6 while major features are still in development for 5. This is way sooner than expected
I think the switch to UE6 is usual step they are always switch to next iteration of the engine after ?, 8 version from it

Imagine this alongside ps6 announcement on next s.o.p
That would be crazy, but could explain the hype and journalist presence surrounding the event… hmmm

I bet the headlining features are all AI. Being able to author levels with AI, AI upscaling, animation etc. May be even lumen has some AI component. Nothing else seems disruptive enough to warrant an overhaul.

Yeah but it might be a bit tone deaf this time around. Usually the engine reaches some level of maturity, stability and steady state by that point…

I agree with you Ai will have major part on any next gen tech

Oh you know why.

It's probably UE5, but with AI support. Now you don't even need to learn Blueprints, you just prompt away and it generates stuff.

Get ready for the real slop generation!

As much as i dislike threads with the word slop in it you may be right, slop is awaiting us.
Also i hope the switch from UE5 to UE6 is easy.

I really love how colorful Crimson Desert can be in cities. its so refreshing to see color back in video games this gen.

Looks nice, still on hold for me, seeing that they just added the new sun RT shadows, I'm thinking they're not done with the updates and fixes.

Then you should feel at home with Black Flag, I'm noticing that it has more color than Shadows and even BF OG.

This is a rare take to have in a time where people here are clamoring to go back to the grimdark brown/gray styles of PS360's generation.
lol who are these people?

Look at how the shadows pop in on the two jesters on the left side in the second gif. They are still working things out two months later lol

Those are Sun shadows too so clearly the game's bvh is struggling to capture everything on screen. Honestly I'm surprised the game looks as good as it does despite the many visual oddities the game suffered from at launch and still does to this day.

That said I'd rather devs be this ambitious than take the easy route like Kojipro did.

I just hope that it won't negatively affect performance (even more). When devs get the option to cut corners they'll take it.

But more than ever the digital storefronts will be swarmed with low effort stuff.

It's bizarre that we got an UE6 announcement from a game using UE6 and not from the creators of UE6 itself. I'm curious how they will go about revealing it, with UE5 they released and paired it with the PS5, and I assumed they were going to do the same when the PS6 comes out but clearly not.

I'm hoping UE6 has spent a decent amount of time in the oven, and not a half baked unoptimised mess like UE5 was upon its release.

im sorry but UE5 has been an abject failure in terms of delivering on its promises.
We never got games at this level.
Mind you this was running native 1440p ~40fps on base PS5.

Nor destruction at this level. Chaos destruction continue to be a complete clusterfuk inefficient disaster and has been rework like 10 times and still doesn't work properly.

Lastly all the UE5 games have this weird final look that doesn't make it appealing or attractive at all. only like acouple games break out of that look like Hellblade 2, etc. I call it the lumen look. Reminds me of the UE3 era look.

I was disappointed by the unveil of UE6.

Yes hellblade 2 looks bad, wukong looks ugly, silent hill 2 looks very bad, expedition 33 looks shit, robocop looks shit of shit, saros look shit and upcoming big studios games like Witcher 4,tomb raider, Gears 6,howgrats 2 will look very shit considering their are the best AAA studios that will handle the engine, lol

Probably the same ones that think that AC Shadows and the upcoming BF look meh or even shit.

Yeah, at least they are still working on it, I'm curious for how long they'll still patch it, visually speaking.

Lol, imagine if DS2 had path tracing or some advanced form of GI like Shadows or Outlaws/Avatar, people would lose their minds.

I need to see it on release to believe those graphics. Grass that looks that detailed always reminds me of the bait and switch that EA did with Madden long ago with the individual blades of grass and individual models within the stands.

i dont know about that. the one thing they have delivered on is asset quality. the lighting has been way better in some games like Silent Hill 2 than that ps5 demo thanks to hardware lumen.

Abject failure? It has allowed indie and mid tier devs to achieve graphics that top efforts from Sony's top tier studios. it definitely has issues like traversal stutters and its expensive on consoles (but in line with other engines and on par with what they promised in the OG PS5 demo), but every engine has its drawbacks. Northlight looks god awful on ps5. Snowdrop drops to 720p in 60 fps modes. And Anvil literally shipped without rtgi in the 60 fps mode.

Lots of UE5 gifs below. If there is a unified UE5 look then it must be that these games all look absolutely magnificent.

I mean Konami hired fucking Bloober, a new thai studio and a 25 person Scottish studio making their first game to make Silent Hill games and they all took a big shit in Sonys mouth thanks to UE5.

I only agree with Chaos Physics in this. They haven't been used anywhere from what I know and it's supposed to be in the engine since 5.4. Unreal devs outright do not care about physics, we've seen this time and time again.

Shouldn't they be trying to perfect unreal 5 before announcing anything unreal 6.

UE6 is probably a patch of UE5 anyway 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn't put much thoughts in the number. Calling it 5.8.1, 5.9 or 6, doesn't matter I bet. I doubt they'll announce something drastic technology wise like nanite/Lumen was.

I read a theory on twitter that the main reason behind announcing UE6 just 4 years after the launch of UE5 is that they are aware of all the UE5 hate/backlash and are hoping for a clean slate.

UE5.6 has already fixed most of the original issues like single threaded CPU utilization, shader compilations, traversal stutter, and lack of hardware lumen and nanite foliage support. UE5.7 drastically improved nanite foliage performance by completely reworking it and UE5.8 now runs Megalights at 60 fps on PS5 and is finally production ready. They even added a probe based Lumen system that is twice as fast as software lumen just for lower end hardware.

My guess is that they are like lets just start over and ship all these features we introduced in later UE5 versions that no one really bothered to use.
