Gravity Rush (Vita) review thread

Any word on why there isn't a GameTrailers video review? I thought maybe they'd given up on Vita reviews for a while, but they did Resistance today.

day 1

how is the back touch pad in this game?

You swipe in a direction to dodge, IIRC. I can't remember if this was on the front or back screen; think it's on the front. I don't think the back touch is used.

Been awhile since I touched my copy though. I'll check when I get home if someone else doesn't answer before then.

Gametrailers isn't a very reliable site if you're into true hardcore games. I'm still waiting for their review of Etrian Odyssey, which I distinctly remember them promising to deliver in their preview of the game back in 2007.

Just wondering, is the demo the same one that has been on the HK PSN/In NA store kiosks since February? Just want to know before downloading.

Just played the demo and I thought it was phenomenal. Really excited for this game now!

Really? It was like 5 minutes long. It was cool but if that is the whole combat system I'll probably pass. Looking forward to seeing some impressions when it comes out.

Demo was freakin' awesome. Short, yeah, but still damn awesome. Seemed to run smooth enough. I had one hiccup, but it didn't break the game at all. Super excited.

Since GameTrailers has one guy doing 90% of the voice overs for all their videos, their capacity is more limited than other websites. It's not rare for reviews of lower profile games to be late.

The demo is, AFAIK, just part of the first area. You get a few more skills later to freshen up the combat like being able to use projectiles or "special moves." Honestly though, the combat never gets really hard.

Any word on how big the digital download will be? Looking at Resistance 3...i'm guessing a 4GB wont be enough to hold 2 Vita games, or at least 1 Vita and some PSP games (Gungnir or Growlanser).

Finally got around to beating the Japanese version a few days ago (was hoping they would patch in English, but they never did). It's a great game. Truly innovative and it includes moderate collecting, skill power-ups, special bosses, side quests and challenge missions. Everything you could want in an action game. My playtime, including the 3 DLC, but not including the challenge missions yet, is about 19 hrs.

That's a pretty impressive playtime. I don't particularly care about game length, but it's nice to know there are other things to do in the game. The demo was an awesome and cruel tease. I love the look and sound, as well as the overall presentation. I absolutely love how moving the Vita will move the comic cutscene elements. Really creative. It's going to be a long two weeks for me.

I know. I want to go gem hunting now! :(

Took me about 12 hours to platinum so yeah, it's pretty lengthy.

anyone else on a media/gameplay blackout for this game?!?

i only tried gravity rush demo on a Demo Vita unit at a gamestop a few weeks before the Feb launch, and I have not seen any video or play any further in this game....i want to be blown away when i pick it up

I enjoyed the demo. Spent a lot of time "flying" around by not going directly to the locations highlighted. If you go too far away, the demo will reset your location back where you started from. Spent probably too much time lifting civilians using the gravity field and moving them about.

I'll surely be picking this up when it releases.

12 hours is lengthy? Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to this game, day one and all that, but 12 hours is rather...brief :

It's lengthy for me.

Other people have reported higher numbers so I might have just had a quicker run.

Finally tried the demo at a Best Buy. I like it.

Being honest though, at least from what I played so far, it doesn't quite live up to my extremely heightened expectations of several months ago. A large part of the blame, I think, lies with the Vita's analogue sticks, which I just loathe.

The art and animation is still amazing and zipping around the sky is fun.

I'm not so sure it's the system seller I thought it'd be, but when I do get a Vita eventually, I don't see how I could not pick this game up.

It definitely isn't a system seller (unfortunately), but i think it's going to achieve cult status.

I'm so loving the art direction...

This was the first demo I've played in a long time--for any system--where I really wished the demo was longer. The gravity shifting thing felt so new and fresh to me. I loved it and I can't wait until June 12th!

Those who have played the full game: the demo doesn't give access to your complete arsenal of traversal abilities, right?

I remember seeing insane challenges with Kat grinding all over the place and definitely could not do that in the demo.

9 more days before this baby is in my Vita! I can't wait. I'm playing Ys Seven and Pure Chess in the meantime to keep me busy. Having a blast with both, but man, do I suck at Chess.

Gravity Rush isn’t just the best game to grace the Vita—it’s also one of the best games I’ve played in some time, no matter the system. In so many ways, it shines with a beauty that so many games can never achieve, and it’s an experience you’ll absolutely not want to miss.

To put it simply the demo was just not fun to me. Extremely boring and the mechanics were driving me insane. Im sure if I spent some more time with it it would become second nature.
But the best game he's played in a long time? Really?? Guess I'm gonna be missin out.

Yeah, I actually fell asleep playing the demo. Not a great look. I was tired though, should probably give it another chance. But it's not an instant purchase for me, even with the super positive word of mouth. Guess I should be thankful for the demo then.

Serious? The demo is like three minutes long!

I didn't really love it either, but Christ, I need to play something on this thing.

Have you tried Stardust? Some PSP games have been worth it for me, I've played my Vita a bunch because of those.

Yup. I grabbed Stardust, Hot Shots, MLB and Mutant Blobs on launch day. All fantastic. I still play MLB and Hot Shots pretty much daily.
