Gravity Rush (Vita) review thread

Wow, wasn't expecting such positive reviews. I was looking forward to it anyway, but now I am extra excited.

The Vita is dead, long live the Vita!

Can't wait. I have this preordered through Amazon. absolutely loved the demo.

Anyone know how long the game is?

Few posts up....12hours to plat.

Glad im not the only one not finding the demo mind blowing.
Im buying for something different to play but thats about it

To put it simply the demo was just not fun to me. Extremely boring and the mechanics were driving me insane. Im sure if I spent some more time with it it would become second nature.
But the best game he's played in a long time? Really?? Guess I'm gonna be missin out.

I don't think the demo was a very good representation of the game. Demos that literally walk you through a tutorial are usually fairly boring. That is 5-10 minutes of a 10-12 hour game. There are a lot of gameplay videos online if you want to check it out some more.

The demo kind of reminded me of Infamous or something. But I do like the art direction a LOT, and hopefully the gravity mechanic gets used in some more creative ways. I expect the game to be a solid 7 based on the demo, and if that's all it is, I'll be satisfied. If it turns out better than I expect, great.

Ah well, at least it's something different, right? It's nice to have a polished experience well-suited for that platform that can't be found anywhere else, at the very least.

Personally, I really dug the demo.

Loading times and 'motion comics' soured my impressions of this game enough to keep me from wanting to get this game, or at least from wanting a Vita.

Maybe in the future when things are cheaper.

I really don't understand why Vita games have such horrible loading times.

Absolutely. Im certainly not knocking the game at all and im glad so many people are enjoying/looking forward to it. It is what the Vita should be getting alot more of. Just not my bag is all.

Isn't it a free roaming? how may secondary missions are present?
Another question, the city is big or small?

Sorry I didn't check this thread earlier.

It's free roaming in that you always have one story quest active on your map. IIRC there are no side-quests beyond the challenges. Roaming is encouraged by gem collecting. Basically, if you're not moving the story quests along you're collecting gems, doing challenges, or just flying around the city for no tangible reason or reward.

Cities are pretty big thanks to being able to explore both the surface of the city and under it.

The motion comics are awesome for one reason: perspective changes based on the gyro :O

That wowed me more than it should have, probably.

You found it insanely annoying that, if you want to, you can move your Vita around to change perspective? Seems a little odd.

Yes, I found it annoying that as I moved the image on the screen shifted abruptly in the middle of trying to tell a story.

No worries, thanks for the reply :D

That's what blew me away too when I played the demo for the first time - it's such a cool effect. The music is floored me as well. Bring on next Friday.

Did anyone find the speed of the reticule a little too fast in the demo? I just played it and found it a little tough to get a good aim on the orbs of the "boss". It does seem to kind of direct you if you get close enough though, which is nice.

Needless to say, the demo convinced me to go ahead and preorder with Amazon.

As the person who wrote that, yes, this is one of the best games I've played in some time—but I say that having actually played the game, not a 5-minute demo.

My first time playing it, I was on my exercise bike. I didn't realize it defaults to using the gyroscope aiming. Maybe that was throwing you off? My shit was bouncing all around lol. When I played the demo later on and knew the gyro was on, it felt great.

Were you playing while on a bus on a street full of potholes?
It moves only slightly on pretty much static images. And text is never obscured if I recall.

what'd he get banned for?

Well..funny enough( from what I read and Kagari in-thread warning to him iirc),He just overused the Vita is dead/negatively card, sure he used it as a joke but it was annoying and to the point he was derailing all Vita threads with it.

In regards to city exploration, are there hidden nooks and crannies. Also, is there any interactions with the npc's? Can I go up to a lady on a park bench and trigger dialogue?

I just saw a gutted copy on the shelf at GameStop. The game's been shipped, but the guy wouldn't sell it to me. Hnnnngh, I can't wait!

Need more GAF impressions! I read some people were able to grab it already.

I'm pretty sure he's unbanned now, saw him post in the Medabots 3DS thread.

I had it in my hands.

Saw it on the shelf at Target. Had them get it out for me. Walked to the register all giddy but when they tried to ring it up, it said they couldn't sell it till Tuesday.

Bummer.

How much is the digital version going to be? 34.99?

I was going to order it from Amazon but now I might wait.

Do we know if the US digital version will come with the DLC like the EU version?
How many DLCs will the digital Euro version come with? And are they getting a retail release or not? I stopped following that topic a long time ago.

I really hope we get a similar deal.

My understanding for EU is that if they buy the digital version in the first week they get the preorder DLC with it, like what Amazon is offering. I haven't heard any info about the US getting that deal though, that's why I was asking.

I just got the game in English (Asian region).

I can tell you that I'm loving this game a lot. I'll definitely place it in my top 5 this year.

The dialogues and the world has this charm to it and it's quirky too. Also I looooove the music. Kohei Tanaka is an absolute god:

I'm so glad I picked up this game. Though my only nagging issue is the semi-flimsy camera and the long loading times, but it's easy to get past that.

By the way, if you have any questions, go ahead and shoot, although I'm just an hour and half past the game.

Yeah, even after the short demo, I'm feeling like this could be a really special game, unless it somehow falls apart later on.

These remind me I have to order the OST at some point.

Yeah, loading times was my only problem with the demo (didn't have problems with the camera, though I'd like to control the "gravity aim" with the left analog stick, for some reason). At first it took forever to LOAD THE FREAKIN' MAIN MENU, then you press a button and it loads forever again. :S

where's da OT?

My Amazon copy shipped today, hype...or something. I haven't played my Vita since April.

Loading times never gave me a huge headache through the game. The main world is pretty much smooth flying. It's when you go in and out of instances situations and the game is forced to load the entire world all over again.

It's hardly a massive blow though, in my opinion. Hope you all enjoy this gem. I fucking loved it.
