Great character redesigns

Old designs are on the left / top each time.

Esty from the Atelier Arland trilogy

Mir from the Ar Tonelico trilogy

Blanc from the Hyperdimension Neptunia series

Da Qiao from the Dynasty Warrior games.

Ditto for Xiao Qiao.

The FF characters in KH's updated wardrobes were all better, IMO.
(Minus the wing maybe)
EDIT: But why did cloud become emo? I didn't beat FF7, but I didn't get that feeling from him.

Also, Melee Bowser. He actually looked threatening for once.

Oh wait, we were talking about video games? In that case:

From complete pussy who had a personality which certainly did not scream "Competent officer" to a guy who would die to make sure the mission was a success. Such an extreme change that even his bloody eye color changed, although that's not exactly notable in Killzone considering Visari seems to have gone through three different eye colors in the series so far. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm talking about a series where people's accents and pitches can completely shift following endgame events.

Melee Bowser looks atrocious. The epitome of trying too hard.

Bowser, by nature, has a design that is only supposed to look mildly threatening. Most of his intimidation comes purely form his size. The Galaxy games and Smash 4 are Bowser design at its finest. In Melee they tried to make him in to something he's not, a creepy looking monster, and the end result makes him look like a joke. I'm sorry, I know it's your opinion, but I can't agree.

The new Dante from DmC Devil May Cry is one of my favorite redesigns. I was never interested in the old/animeDante but the new one fine. I like his looks and personality.

Not sure if it could be considered a 're-design", but Retro was doing awesome stuff with Samus' varia suit design by the time 3 came out.

Not necessarily saying it was "better", but just that they did a stupendous job of bringing her in to 3D.

TP Link looks great. Little subtle updates from OoT Link, such as the chainmail underneath his shirt and noticable stitched designs the shirt itself. Made his outfit look noticably thicker and more appropriately rugged for someone on an adventure.

Master Chief has looked the exact same from game to game.

Also, when I see all these anime characters I just think they look bad before and after.

I definitely agree with Pit, especially since he pretty much went straight from NES to Wii without any games and still fits in with other characters from that era in SSBB.
