These guys make badass portable games. The titles look like shovelware, but they're actually quality products.
I've only played their Spyro GBA game, but that's a fairly accurate description, it was a pretty solid game.

So judging from the developer, this is likely to be a portable tag-along version of a possible Shinobi revival on console platforms?

This is what I'm hoping

What?

Ninja's??

Nintendo 3DS??

Count me in.

I'll be very happy if this is a sequel to the PS2 Shinobi game.

Speaking of Ninjas and handheld games that actually deserve to be revived...

Ninja 5-0, anyone?

Great game! Sprites were a bit small. I played this game this year. It's a mixture of Shadow Dancer and Bionic Commando. Nice.

Ninja Cop is the alternative name.

I'm convinced that Ninja Five-O is an elaborate hoax; an implanted shared memory created by a savvy industry fat cat/hypnotist to generate excitement for an eventual HD remix/port/romdump that will be released at an exorbitant price.

Oh, how I want to play it.

Shinobi 3DS | Created whole levels for Shinobi 3DS, including many props for use in a variety of environments. Helped establish 'fake' Ambient Occlusion look on objects during conceptual phase of development using vertex color in Maya. Created hand-painted and photo-referenced textures. Animated textures and basic animations of some props.

Might be something to it?

These people made Spider-man web of shadows ds? That was one of the most responsive and properly paced action games I've played in the DS library. They can do no wrong with this if you ask.

Given Kamiya's open love for, and homages to, Sega arcade titles there's always the possibility that they actually asked to develop it.

How long ago was the HipHop Gamer(?) rumour about Shinobi running on the Bayo engine?

The rumor has been going about since at least late 2009/early 2010 or thereabouts(when Bayo finished up, no less).

But yeah, Kamiya has gone on record to say how games like Shinobi have affected him as a gamer. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if Kamiya wanted to actually make such a game for himself

...Hopefully, if this is true, a ninja game of some sort might be a means to reel him in when it comes to those vehicle/shooting stages he likes to make. :lol

I enjoyed Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions on the DS plus I just saw the trailer for Green Lantern for 3DS and that looks interesting as well so I've def got my eye on this.

Griptonite is great, and the style of their most recent sidescrolling games fits Shinobi perfectly.

Colour me excited.

I don't know. A Shinobi revival sounds awesome but that developer has only worked on licensed games. Hopefully with this they can show that they are a competent studio. I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

I remember in the Game Informer E3 topic I mentioned wanting a new Shinobi..

I'm worried I may have asked for something wrong here.

I also said I would love for it to be made by the gods at Platinum Games.

I can't wait to see what handheld specialists like these guys and n-Space get up to on 3DS. At least we've had the big Snin'en reveal, and that game looks amazing!

Griptonite's game resume is pretty barftastic. If this portable garbage is going to buddy up with some unannounced console Shinobi revival then I guess that could be cool.

The only devs at this point that deserve Shinobi would be Platinum.

Well. I'm pretty sure that if we go a few years back and say that a new Shinobi game is being made by WayForward People would be freaking out, saying who the f*** Wayforward are and immediately assuming that they are a crappy portable licensed Barbie games developer.

The Eternal Night GBA >>> Every Shinobi game ever made. I have high hopes for this.

They should totally do a fully digitized sidescroller as a throwback to Shinobi Legions on the Saturn. That would be pretty funny to see in 3D, actually.

Good Lord Sega. You have Overworks.
Just tell them to quit fucking around with that Valkyria Chronicles horseshit and make a new Shinobi.

I don't think the reality is what you think it is...

Overworks Development Staff

Director: Kouichi Nomura -> Sonic Unleashed boss programmer (Sonic team)

Main/enemy planner: Takao Hirabayashi -> Sonic Unleashed lead planner (Sonic team)

Event planner: Keisuke Suzuki -> Blood Will Tell designer (left Sega?)

Artists Main/System planner: Hirotaka Kanazawa -> Altered Beast artist (left Sega?)

Character Design/Main Visual planner: Makoto Tsuchibayashi -> Vanquish character design (freelance)

Movie Director: Takeshi Matsuura -> Sonic the Hedgehog field artist (Sonic team)

Chief Director: Masahiro Kumono -> Sonic the Hedgehog producer (Sonic team)

Executive Producer: Noriyoshi Ooba -> Altered Beast executive producer (fed to wolves?)

So yeah, Overworks is gone as it is. The people making Valkyria now, are the guys from Overworks who worked on Skies of Arcadia in lead roles, along with other people from other parts of Sega. The guys who worked on Shinobi are mostly at Sonic team. How does this make you feel?

Uh, does it have the guy behind the combat in Web of Shadows and that Spyro GBA game? Cuz those kicked major ass. They were like 2D DMCs.

Spyro: The Eternal Night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QdnDl_9Tbw

Spiderman: Web of Shadows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiDvU-zXsU8
They really nail the minute to minute gameplay. The core combat and platforming of their games are really enjoyable.

Some aspects bring their games down a little though, level design being one of these aspects.

With the right budget and the right direction I think they could come up with something great. That said, I bet they are just developing the portable version of a multiplatform title, which brings the potential down a notch or two.

Out of curiosity, who are the common links between SoA and VC? I can easily find that Shuntaro Tanaka had a large role in both, but nothing else. Moby Games needs VC credits.

I'm truly hopping for big budget Bayonetta style TPA for HD consoles. Made by Hideki's P team with Joe Musashi as a leading character.

At least I can dream...

Yes, Web of Shadows was precisely one of the games I played that people said was good but actually it was awful. Besides being too ugly to stomach for more than five secs at a time.

I also played Two Towers.
You're a weird guy if you can't stomach these quite pleasant graphics.

I remember liking the GBC Harry Potter games... I don't think I played anything else by them.
EDIT: No, wait, I also played Two Towers. It wasn't good - but it was decent. I quite enjoyed it back in the day.
