GT Prologue Pre-orders Reach One Million

andrewfee said:
With GT5 Prologue, you're just paying to get a slice of the full game early, effectively making GT5 a £70 game rather than a £50 one when it comes out. If GT5P's cars and tracks weren't going to appear in the full GT5 (but you could still use them in GT5 when it comes out if you have it) then I'd have no problem with it at all.

As you have seen in this thread, there is quite a large contingent of gamers who have no problem paying $40/£20 to get a taste of GT5. Also, its been noted that there will be carry over of the credits you earn in Prologue to your GT5 game save. That being said, this game appeals to a very distinct demographic, car nuts and hardcore gamers rolled into one who are the same guys putting down $300 for the G25 just so they can heal-toe downshift going into a hairpin on their favorite race tracks.

I can guarantee that there are hundreds of GAFers who didn't even think twice about saying "MINE" when GT5:P was announced, forget demoed or anything else. Those are the people to whom this game will appeal to. If it doesn't appeal to you, then don't get it. If you don't want to pay the money to play a portion of GT5 about a year or so early, then don't. Wait for the full game, or don't purchase either.

So like how Halo 3 isn't 720p?
Erm... yes I guess :p

It's upscaled from 1280x1080p to 1920x1080p. Or something like that.

But GT5 is best played at 720p cause it's not upscaled and adds x4 AA. Uncheck the 1080p setting on your PS3 settings.

andrewfee said:
Just because your HDTV says 1080p doesn't mean the game is running in 1080p.

If you set a 360 to 1080p everything says it's running at 1080p, and I think there's only two or three games on the system that actually do.

Games like CoD4 I can manually set to upscale to 1080p. Prologue automatically does so I guess it's like people are saying 1280x1080 upscaled then.

I gather that no responses to my query means that buying GTP offers no assurance one will have access to the rest of the game when it releases. Essentially, I'll just have to buy the new game to get the extra content. Is that correct or not?

Mind documenting this? Pics here and there and any problems you run into, please!!!
I live in a apartment complex, wanna know if its worth it lol.

What kind of fool do you take me for? I've got the pictures - probably shoddy quality given my abject lack of competence with a camera, and didn't get too many in-the-process-of-building ones, as it's basically just a case of slotting the pieces together according to the design, but I'll write it up some time - tomorrow, most likely. Tonight is for beer and racing. :)

It's a pretty sweet setup - at some point I'll end up re-engineering it to have a decent racing seat built in, and the pedals need a more solid point to rest against, but it's good enough for now.

Firewire said:
Best setup though is to find a way to tie the seat into you're frame, then you're weight eliminates any movement.

Pretty much what I'm going for - decided in the end to build it around an old chair I had lying around, and that holds it in place pretty well as long as you don't pull back on the wheel. A few quick string ties to hold it in place should keep it good the other way round as well.

Beer, a racing wheel & GT! Sounds like heaven, wish I was there!

GT5 is 1080p, it is just not 1900 pixels wide, so 1080p but not rendered in FULL HD

the ps3 only upscales horizontally

Two separate releases. You should be able to transfer your credits to the full game but that's about it I believe. So no, you don't get the extra GT5 content unless you buy GT5 when it comes out.

No one knows the answer. Nothing has been mentioned.

That said, I'd say it's very unlikely that there will be any connection between Prologue and GT5 other than probably your save game. The primary reason for this, and this gets back to the notion of whether this is a demo or not, is kind of like GT4:P, GT5 will not be GT5:P with more content.

I'd expect some fundamental code changes made to the full game when is released a year+ from now. The graphics engine will be further optimized, the physics engine will be tweaked, the menus improved, updated net code, better lobbies, damage, the list could be significant. Too much to offer any upgrade path to folks who purchased GT5:P.

This so call demo, have more stuff, than full price games.

My god, there's more people for you to kill.

You know, and all of you know what's a demo, right? Something to try out.

GT5P is 100+ hours of gameplay and that's not just trying it out. It's not a "big demo" because I haven't even played a demo that I could play for 100+ hours.

Even I spent 5 hours on the MGS3 demo listening to every god damn thing I could listen to and doing everything I could do in that game, but it was still a try out.

I feel like killing some people as well.

This makes me kind of sad for Forza 2, to be honest.

There are already more pre-orders for a GT Prologue chapter than the best racing game of all time to date had lifetime sales.

Since people continue to address me, I will reply.

I am not saying that there isn't a lot of stuff it Prologue, all I am saying is that it is not a full game. Some other people here seem to be offended at it being called a demo (which it is).

zero tolerance, nope.

so_awes, I came here to talk about the demo reaching 1 million pre-orders. That has nothing to do with whether I like the genre or not. I don't have to like something to be able to talk about it.

GTHD downloaded this when i first got the PS3 April last year, 1 track F/R, 12 CARS
online ranking for your time FREE OF CHARGE DEMO!

GT5P 6 tracks F/R 71 cars full on line, access to GT TV AS WELL £17.99

GT5 somewhere between 750-900 cars 20+ tracks including BBC Top Gear track

What makes a game a game and not a demo.

not preordering GT5P will not improve Forza2 sales
I already have Forza 2, and I'll probably buy GT5P if it comes out for $30 or so.

I'm not saying that GT5P doesn't deserve to do well. I'm just saying that Forza 2 should have done better than it did. It was bar none the best console racer ever made when it came out, but it sold a tiny fraction of what any GT title sells.

Okay, here's a shot of my finished (almost) GT5 seat:

gtSeat.jpg

Total cost of parts came to about the price of a single video game. :D

As you can see, we went a little off the original design - having a single cross-piece as the only support for that wheel shelf just seemed like a bad idea.

Just had a thought for all the DEMO LOVERS HERE

Halo was a demo of a demo because Halo 2 was released then Halo 3 JUST
using the logic the people here calling GT5P a demo.

So that means that any game that ends up with a sequel was only
a DEMO!!!

Its too early to call Forza 2 the best console racer ever especially when the king hasn't even arrived yet.

that's a nice setup, but you really need a better chair. :lol

maybe. Forza has a problem, racing games is an european affair and Xbox is not. Add the fact that euro gamers are used to play racing games on the playstation for 3 generations.

I think Forza would have done much better on ps2, and Forza2 would have done much better on ps3. You can argue that there is still more 360 than ps3 in Europe, not by much, but ps2 was built around GT3 in Europe and I think the same will happen with GT5P, whereas the xbox is built around Halo.

Just my opinion.

Okay, here is where we draw a line under the "is it a demo or not" discussion. We know the arguments for both sides. We know nobody's going to change their mind. I'm going to pick an arbitrary time in the near future, and anyone still going on about it after that point gets banned. If you really feel that strongly that it's a subject worth discussing, start a new thread for it so we can keep all the idiocy in a single place.

The chair's just a convenient one I had to hand. I'll probably end up getting a proper racing seat at some point in the future and rebuilding from scratch.

My racing set up will be a plank of wood with weights on each side sitting on the arm rests of my recliner. Now I just need to find the G25 for $150 or under $200 at least (cheapest I could find online was $230 or so, if anyone knows a good site I would appreciate it) and if not the G25, I will get the new wheel Logitech is putting out.

Andrewfree I would consider this more GT5: Episode 1 than a demo.

The content is fairly substantial. Now if there is a way to buy the rest of the content off of PSN for 20 bucks then I think this is a decent idea to get the game out early. If you have to pay another 60 bucks for the same content + more than I guess it is somewhat lame. Oh wait we already did that it was called HL2: Orange Box. ;) Paid for a mixture of old content and new. I had no problems throwing 60 bucks down on the game. And now another 40 on the steam version with their weekend sale.

Funny you mentioned that. I'm waiting on the final segment (I hope the next one is the last to finish HL2 story) of half life 2. I never thought of it as the ones released so far as being demos or being like prologue but after seeing so many people having to rebuy HL2 on PC it's just like prologue to some hah. Interesting indeed, now I think I will get prologue. Too much stuff to buy I gotta skip something.

Edit crap sorry. Didn't see the mod's comment about the demo discussion. But I didn't class GT5P as a demo or not, was mainly off topic about half life2 ep3 not being finished. Sorry please don't ban me. gah

GT 5P pre-orders are above GT4 sales?

Well I guess that settles it, I'm going to pre-order GT5 Prologue then.

as much as i love GT5:P, i have to slightly agree with some of you. Some of you though, like the above, make completely fucking ridiculous arguments. GT5 is not a sequel to GT5p :lol

Also I really hope the PSN cards are out in time for GT5P. I really hate messing with credit card purchases when I don't have to.

Is that the PC logitech Wingman Formula Force steering wheel?

I thought that one didn't work with the PS3?

Hmm, mines is the same, here's hoping it does work. Would save me a few bob in the long run. :D Yet to try it on the PS3 though.

Sweet! Now all you need is a beer helmet that holds six packs and you're all set!

Around x-mass there was a site selling them new for $150 with free shipping. Somebody linked to it in another GT thread.

That set up retails for $600 plus. You can get the round ones that Sony uses for shows for over $3000.
He did very well for $50-60. The thing is once you start you're always tweaking, so it never ends.
