GT Sport E3 Build - Massive Upgrade

Well the negativity in May was highly exaggerated because we knew things weren't done and they were focusing on what wasn't the point of the presentation.

However the crow is definitely being eaten because all of those negative Nancy's were saying how PD always says it's not finished and nothing ever changes. Well it changed now, where are those scoffers now? You already know...

Yup. People were writing off a game entirely just because the focus was on something other than graphics... which we knew full well would improve.

Where are all the haters? This looks fucking outstanding. Never doubted Yamauchi (and translator-san) for a second.

Indeed but from the copper box event they were still way too passive and slow at the highest difficulty. Hopefully they've addressed that.

As much as many people love to deny it when doing so fits their narrative, this happens all the time.

Game is looking pretty good but you can see where they had to compromise. The always forward facing billboard trees on the ring and other tracks really stand out.

It's still not what I want from a Gran Turismo game but visually..very impressed.

I can understand and sympathize with that. I too want more single player content. But people claiming "Kaz is a dinosaur" and "GT always disappoints now" and similar remarks based on graphics were asinine.

Nah, I think people were rightly disappointed at the time. It's fantastic to see the recent improvements but all this 'eating crow' rhetoric just comes across as smug and immature. People just judged what was presented to them at a well-hyped event.

The more people that are happy about any racing games the better, the genre has been struggling a while so good to see both this and Horizon getting good reactions.

Just to note, when I say struggling am not referring to game quality, just how many people seem to care.

I wasn't disagreeing I just said it was exaggerated and it was. That's all people could talk about, no one was talking about the great new innovative features, to the point we had people completely not knowing what was confirmed and what wasn't. But I too wouldn't be happy if GT Sport looked at launch like it did in May.

What I was specifically talking about were the haters writing it off completely and saying nothing will change and PD is always the same. There's such a thing as constructive criticism and then there are people like that.

Ah, my apologies. I did misunderstand.

GT Sport is certainly PD's opportunity to restore faith back to GT4 levels and produce a solid, polished and uncompromised product, and the tighter focus and pared-down structure of GTS seems to mesh nicely with this philosophy.

Thread title needs to be changed to "HOLY SHIT! GRAN TURISMO SPORT!" or something. That video was absurd.

You see the way that first-person camera moves? The cockpit camera needs to react similarly. The weird thing about it is that most directors/DPs mounting cameras to the front/back of speeding cars would place the camera on a gyrostabilizer of some sort to eliminate that. That is rarer with helmet cams.

GT5 had bounce cam patched in but fans complained and it was patched out. I really liked it. :/

So, they actually dropped the racing line entirely for GTS. Kaz says it's because all those do is make you drive over them instead of actually learning the track. Instead they've replaced them with what they've called racing markers. There are three markers per corner. One for the entry, the apex, and the exit. All placed where you car should be if you take the corner properly. Here's a video showing it off

Not sure I am a fan. If anything have a racing line just for corners, or mark it differently on the track surface somehow as you should watch the pavement, not the sky for the triangle. The floating triangles are hard to judge in terms of location and depth.

The problem was that people became dependent on the line, this new system is great in that it makes you focus on the apex instead of the ground. It doesn't tell you when to break either, rather it gives you pointers on how to enter, stay in, and exit the corner. I think this system would improve peoples driving, I like it.

Yep. New markers + old gear indicator sounds awesome, nice new feature.

Thats the thing, you shouldnt be looking at the ground. Ideally you be looking ahead which maybe this new marker design will help players with. The old design pretty much tells the player where to be and when to brake with not much thinking involved. This might be a better way to help the player learn how to take a corner and find their own braking zones.
Or maybe they will hate it, who knows.

I don't like it because it looks terrible and it's still a crutch to players in a game focused on actually racing especially online.

Quite frankly dynamic racing line and rewind features have no place in a sim or semi-sim racing game besides some kind of tutorial. Racing is always about learning to react to your car, tyre degradation and track grip condition and still drive as close to the limit as possible. If the tyres are new I know I can brake later or carry more speed into the corners, if fuel tank is full I know I need to brake earlier and be a lot more careful in weight transfer. With a dynamic racing line I don't need to learn anything about cars or tracks just drive according to the line like I'm playing Guitar Hero. Those crutches don't teach you anything, you can't learn braking markers while looking at the floor.

I skipped 5 and 6. Any footage of this "bounce" cam? Perhaps it just wasn't implemented correctly? The cockpit perspective is so sterile—it's really my only strong complaint with the game thus far.

They definitely need to give us the option to enable camera shake instead of removing it completely.

Absolutely, can't we have options for these things? Like an option to move the chase cam closer to the car or moving the cockpit cam closer or farther away from the wheel. Options are a good thing, don't know why developers don't like giving gamers those options.

Hey look, studio known for releasing racing games with crazy graphics is releasing yet another game with crazy graphics.
Man, and GAF told me this was going to be their downfall :\

You see... that actually isn't very good. I can see why they took that out. The camera needs to be more dynamic. That car isn't just moving up and down, it's moving left and right and at different velocities. The GT5 "bounce" cam looks fake, it's immersion breaking. Driving a car at high speed is fucking terrifying. I can't stress this enough. This is the only area I think they can really learn something from DC.
