GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

Well, shit. Its going to take me years to get through them. I suck at GT, I could hardly finish a lap in the recent Time Trial without bumping into something or getting off the track. I dunno what it was about the grass, I would just keep skating on it until I crashed into something.
That's the Professional setting at work. In Standard, grass and gravel aren't that bad. In Professional, they're unforgiving.

No but really? Can anyone provide the source of the NSX pictures?

It's a testament to Polyphony that I can't decide if they're photos or shots of GT5.

Then I'm going to stick to standard. I wasn't having fun with professional (I sold my G25, so that might be a reason too)... Maybe when I get better, or buy another wheel, I'll dip my toe in it.

Until then, I have no qualms about being a weaksauce gamer and playing on standard setting. :D

GT5 will have it.

Sorry for coming into this thread a little late but I can't believe people actually thought that there was a possibility of GT5 not having license tests, the tests are what I think of first when I thin Gran Turismo

They are real life photos.

from 40 seconds forward.

Please tell me that was the camera adjusting the colours. Because it sure looked like dynamic weather like the sun starting to really shine. It looked real.

If that was the camera, I'm sending this video to polyphony. That was the colour tone that feels right.

I am also digging the more dynamic (as in good looking) shadows. I just finished watching highlights of the 24hrs of Nurburgring and it is amazing how accurate the tack is. If GT4's Ring is considered to be among the best I can't wait to try it in GT5. For all the people complaining about the 20 tracks thing... be modest... all you really need is The Ring (ok and Spa).

I hate the ring. No joke... I'm so sick of racing it pretty much every time I go online in a racing game.

If the rumor of Spa being in GT5 is true, then get ready for that to be the new Ring.

It's my favorite track of GT4. 7mins of pure bliss. It'll be one of the first tracks I run in GT5.

I know someone who owned a PS2 and a copy of GT4 solely to lap around the ring. I kinda know the track but it in the end, it is still an enigma to me.

I dont know...the ring will always be king... but yeah, Spa would be a great addition. I love the mid section of the track.

As a Junior here, i thought it would be good to start in the thread of my most anticipated game atm. 8) Some people might know me already from GTPlanet (im the guy who uploaded the GT-R 'Ring video on YouTube for example).

Here are my times from the GT Academy (doubt i will get better than this):
Stock: 1'49.777 - DualShock 3 - Cockpit - Racing line off - MT - TCS Locked to 7 due to pad
Tuned: 1'37.311 - DualShock 3 - Cockpit - Racing line off - MT - TCS 0
Overall: 3'27.088

It looks like the next round of the GT Academy will be happening a lot sooner than I expected

Players will have until midnight (GMT) on Tuesday (26 January) to register their details in order to secure their place in the National Finals events that take place at various dates from 3 until 19 February.

http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/news/d12220.html

Hopefully we'll find out what the second course is from someone that gets in. That could be where Spa is confirmed to be in GT5.

I find it interesting because the demo will be deactivated on February 24 or 25 according to its XMB infos (yes i know Sony said on the Blog you will be able to play it as long as you want). Maybe we will get a new one with the track they use for the national finals (most likely Tokyo :lol).

I don't think that it'd be Tokyo as they seem to be picking courses that people have at least never played in a GT game before (in a press release they called it 'another exclusive GT5 level'). Tokyo has been in GT since GT3, and many people have played it in the demos for GT5. Jordan noted that he was told that the TT course would be Indy or Spa. It tunred out to be Spa so some people have speculated that the second round course could be Spa.

I know all of that. ;)
Was being sarcastic, but on the other hand, you never know.
And i wouldnt count on Jordans source, wouldnt be the first time that "teh source" makes a mistake (Holiday 09 releasedate for example). Just because he mentioned Spa doesnt mean it will be in the game. Spa also wouldnt be "exclusive".

I believe when he says exclusive he means exclusive in the GT games, or in other words the first time in the GT franchise.

It could mean exclusive as in "first time in GT", it could mean exclusive as in "only in a GT game", it could mean both of that and it could mean exclusive as in "well known famous race track". No one knows, thats why i dont count on Spa, too many possibilities.

I was referring to SolidSnakex's use of the word exclusive because I don't think Sony or PD ever said it was "exclusive" just new to GT5. I tried to find an actual quote but couldn't, the only stuff I found referred to Indy.

Here it is

Stage Two – the holders of the twenty fastest online lap times from each participating country will qualify for their national final event. Tensions will run high as they battle each other on another exclusive Gran Turismo 5 level for the chance to move to the next phase of the competition.

have a good nap. Japan was delayed out of march.

So unless anything new gets shown at the Brussels Motor Show today, it seems a bit of a missed opportunity not to have introduced Spa at BMS in its home country. Though at least we'll know the new track in 9 days time.

I'm a firm believer that Sony had December '09 locked down for GT5, then something happened. Negative damage reactions, development issues, sudden change in strategy, who knows. Could be they've now decided to announce a PS3 price cut at E3 2010 to coincide with a GT5 worldwide launch. That outta give GT5 a big(ger) kick.

Yes, I think that dismissing predictions solely on a missed releasedate is a bit too harsh. Especially with this game.

I seriously doubt that, even after the TGS Yamauchi said "we are trying to do this", "we dont know if this will work" and "if you just want to race, the game is done, but everything around the pure racing aspect is still unfinished".

Germany's next round takes place at the Nürburgring. (the real location, not the in-game track)

Any news from the other countries yet ?

What Kaz said at TGS would have been after circumstances unknown changed the release schedule (around the time of GamesCom), and when Kaz would have known that they would have more time to work on GT5 given he'd just announced a March release date.

It's pretty clear that a big reveal was scheduled for GamesCom, because in fact, we learnt less from TGS than we did from the trigger happy fingers of PD at GamesCom. So something happened that bumped it from Xmas IMO. I fail to believe that Sony wouldn't have liked to capitalise on GT5 and the newly released Slim at the most lucrative time of the year.

Toca RD3 had the Superspeedway and iRacing also has it (both versions).

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooGXzt2US48
First time we see an AI car getting damaged.
That's the oval right? I'm not going to count iRacing since its different than console games, but it does seem to me that the Indy F1 course is pretty much exclusive to GT5. So with that in mind and the next track also being exclusive it may not be spa as there are other games with that track, could be an entirely new track to the console racing world.

Never attach weight to release dates put on shopping websites ;)

(Here's hoping that GameStop is completely wrong on this one though)

Any release date you see is just a guess. Until Sony and PD give it to us, we won't know it.

Actually, Jeff Bezos determines the release date for all games and then relays it to the publisher.

Anyone have the new issue of GamesTM? The apparently whine about GT5 in it.

UK magazine GAMEStm has given GT5 a complete trashing in the preview of the game in the new issue. They said "after playing the game, we felt pure disappointment, it's a well crafted game (apart from blurry texture mapping), but on a gameplay level there is nothing in GT5 that can't be found, better, in other current racing games.

intriguing.

its looking increasingly like GT5 is gonna be one of the biggest anti-climaxes in videogame history.

oh and its also been pushed back to end of year for territories outside Japan. oh great..!

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/granturismo52/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-53202361&pid=941103

they mention its the current build of the game that is being released in march in japan. the only tweaks being made now are the online parts of the game according to the article.
