GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

I could never get into the GT games because I find the way the car handles with the controls to be extremly difficult. Like when im trying to make a turn the car goes over and bumps into the wall and then I have to reverse and get back on the main road. Is there a trick to the controls?

Tire flex confirmed?

Tsukuba is seems like the best looking race track so far

Agreed.
Love the grass and dirt on the sides of the road.
And from the shadows in that pic, we can see the time of day is indeed in the afternoon... probably 4pm.

The song sounded so familiar to me I didn't know where I heard it before but I just searched and found out...it's also in the Forza 3 soundtrack. :lol

I don't know... I stepped through the vid at that point and it didn't really look like it was flexing.

Could be though.

1:10-1:15 of the video would be the best place to look for it and it doesn't look like there is.

Perhaps this isn't the best time/place for this post, but if I could sit down with Kaz, these would be my Top 3 requests for GT5 based on what we've seen so far...

1. The camera positions need to be fixed. The third-person chase cam needs to go back to how it was in GT1-GT3, and the nose camera needs to actually be on the nose of the car, not on the engine firewall like it currently seems to be.

2. All events (with the exception of endurance races) need to have standing starts. And if the PS3 isn't capable of making that happen, please lower the number of cars from 14-16 down to 8-10 until the performance meets your requirements. Playing catchup is both annoying and unrealistic.

3. You need to find an elegant, convenient way to sell GT5's 1000+ cars. The used car dealerships in GT4 were frustrating and the system you used in GT PSP is utterly terrible! Also, please don't flood the economy with money like you did in GT4. Grinding for cash is a time-honored pursuit in pseudo-sims and if you've forgotten how to properly do it, just copy FM3's payout system.

There are other things I could mention, but these are what I'm most passionate about.

They can do it. Prologue had 16 car standing starts in the online mode. The GT Academy also had standing starts. So the fact that they did rolling starts in single player mode in Prologue is just a preference of theirs. Who knows if that'll carry over to the GT Mode in GT5.

Those were more like "challenges" than serious races.

So I expect racing events in GT5 to be standing starts for the most part.

I agree about the number of views. Needs to be increased to include a chase came with a tight camera and a chase with a loose camera. My own preference is to have a hood cam which is ideal for people who have a projector setup.

Yeah GT5 definitely needs a hood cam, it is the best camera view (well, maybe tied with cockpit cam, but I always find myself going back to the hood cam)

this part made me :lol . Logically its easy to understand that the reason for rolling starts was mainly to increase difficulty since the AI in GT (and in my experience ever other car game too) is so very dumb

Is there a comparable shot from GT5 Prologue for this track?

I can't really think of any. Tsukuba wasn't in Prologue and I can't think of any similar shots from courses in Prologue. I wish Polyphony would release a HD version of the AGS trailer as that had a really nice aerial shot of Tsukuba

And it had our only glimpse of Madrid so far

New trailer is awesome. I haven't played a GT game since 3 (5P doesn't count :P). So pumped for this.

While I agree that the used car system in GT4 was frustrating, I definitely do not agree with having FM3-like payouts. Even in GT5 Prologue it was quite a bit of work to afford that F1 car and for no real reason. What's the point? I can't find one.

Like GT4, I'd want prize car 'exploits' to be around again :).

Well the "tracks look bland" comments should be put to rest (not that they had any legitimacy before, mind you...). Gorgeous lighting, cars and environments !

I agree with every you said except the bolded (I'm neither here nor their on standing starts). To the bolded I say NO NO NO NO NO. Making it prohibitively expensive to buy cars is a terrible idea.

Engine firewall ?
Right now, you have bumper, cockpit, roof and chase.

Thanks for the video Torgo, looks stunning.

According to TheSixthaxis there's going to be another trailer soon as the EU GOW disc doesn't have the trailer.

Well, it appears it’s not on the European version at all, so my search was pointless. “It’s a deal that was worked out a while ago with SCEA,” said Sony when we asked about the absent trailer this morning. “Europe should be getting a different version soon

Jesus this game looks so amazing. Every time there is a trailer we can see the improvements they are making. Here's hoping the EU trailer has some F1 footage of some sort. Would coincide with the start of the 2010 F1 season to which would seem like perfect timing.
