GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

What I was thinking. Why reveal a potentially big thing like that on some random day?
Lest you get swarmed by GoW 3 fans, march 16th is not a random day :D Its arguably PS3's biggest day since its launch because its GoW 3's release date.

Yeah I meant in terms of gaming news or expos. It's going to be a huge day for sure.

No reason to steal any thunder from GoW3 either. PD showing stuff like weather or damage would certainly steal some headlines that day.

Headtracking is definitely in. 3D isn't confirmed but it's probably going to be there too. Kaz said that he wasn't happy with its current quality.
Cool, thanks for the info. I can't wait to try this out with a high quality wheel, shit will be amazing. Is damaged confirmed to be in as well, or was that a rumor?

That new vid is awesome, thanks Magnus! I think SS got his wish regarding night racing. From what I can tell it looks like PD nailed it.

Can't wait to see this part in HD

You have, no. goddamn. idea. That was why I was flipping out, and the shot that follows is almost equally as amazing. My head hurt trying to figure out how big their skybox/geometry is going....

I'm waiting to pick up a PS3 until GT5 comes out.

And you shall be handsomely rewarded, sir. I would recommend firing up GT4 just for shits 'n giggles for a tear around a couple tracks in a few different rides to see how it feels. Then, when GT5 hits (hopefully a few hours later), fire that up and see just how much of a difference the new physics make. If you have a wheel, bring new pants. The slip and slide aspect now has never made me feel more connected to a vehicle that I'm not actually driving.

Just in case you guys was wondering

This will be a fount of new info, for sure, but not necessarily GT-related. Just to avoid hopes getting raised too much.

Yeah didn't have anywhere else to post it though :(

If other tracks have that level of detail, then bind blown. Twice. Last year the tracks were looking bland as fuck. It seems to have somehow reversed this year.

Rewatching the NASCAR vid in HD now and I gotta say the most annoying part about the vid is the tease of crash damage when the car spins out, only to have the rest of the cars dodge it perfectly.

There are also multiple cars on the track (two 11s, three 24s, just from what I can see) Any word on what that is?

They simply may not be finished with the other cars yet and decided that simply having 14 (that we can see) cars on track racing was more important to show then just the few that they have finished with.

perhaps.

Iam just so glad that there isnt 6 cars to a grid anymore, hell i would settle for 30fps for over 20.

That new GT5 trailer on the God of War disc is absolutely amazing... It would be so interesting to see what Polyphony would do with a non-racing game graphics wise. I know that's not going to happen but GT5 is just so incredible looking. Nice to see they put in a lot of extra texture detail into the asphalt. Also very nice to some of the night-time stuff.

Very much looking forward to seeing it in direct feed HD when GOW3 comes out. Not sure when I am going to finish all these games though. Still haven't finished Mass Effect 2 and I got Heavy Rain, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and on Tuesday I am getting Final Fantasy XIII... I guess I'll catch up eventually, I'm not complaining.

I wonder if we get a release date of GT5 at GDC. I guess more likely it will be revealed at E3.

After watching the trailers it's obvious Polyphony are masters at making them. Ever since the opening of the first Gran Turismo to this Polyphony just have this knack of making their trailers more than simply showing off graphics - they're almost emotional, as if capturing the thrill of racing itself. Excellent stuff!

That might have been related to possibility of Indy car racing in GT5. EA has had the Nascar license since 1997 and choose to renew in 2010 due to budget cuts and sub par sales.
Yea, in retrospect the cars are all from the 09 season, a recent addition but I'm doubting it as a factor for a delay. As slow as PD moves, the 8 months since the licence's unveil at e3 it should be more than enough time to finish up what was left.

The amazing thing is that a lot of the time it's only a single car that's being captured like in the Ferrari 458 Italia trailer. Masters indeed.

PD are keeping GT5 very close to their chests, if most of the rumours end up being true—as amar212 suggests, there really will be a feast of the gods.

Holy crap that trailer gave me that Gran Turismo-vibe again, like the old GT1/2 trailers had. :D Great to see night racing again.

DO WANT NAO!

A bit late to the party, but holy crap that new trailer is sweet (eventhough it contains a lot of rehashed stuff). Thanks Magnus!

Ok so I was thinking about Socom 4 which is down for fall/autumn which means if GT5 doesn't come out before then will it be delayed till Q4?
I'm probably wrong though because it's possible to release more than one game in autumn but now I'm thinking what Sony's big Christmas game will be?

I'll be seriously pissed if we don't see night racing on any other stage other than the Special Route one shown in the trailer. It just looks so good, and I wish to see that applied to Nurburgring.
