GTA V 360: 2 discs, install from Disc 1 play from Disc 2. PS3: 1 disc, 8GB install

Screw flash drives. I ordered a 320GB HDD for $40 on eBay.

Won't the difference between PS4 and XBO games be much bigger than PS3/360 games? People are predicting major resolution and frame rate bumps.

Nobody knows, but right from games shown on both platforms at E3 the difference is non-existent.

I just checked Amazon and you can get 16GB flash drives starting at 6 bucks. I hope this thread doesn't get shit up with people complaining how they can't afford an extra 6 bucks in order to play a $60 game

Not advisable to get a 16gb flash drive. After formatting and partitioning you will be left with around 12gbs. It isn't a huge price leap to 32gbs so that is the bare minimum people should go with. Aside from that there is the principle of the thing, one of the key reasons for playing on consoles is that a game just "works" on the console. I have lost count of the number of times people have said "yeah but you have to upgrade to play games on the PC". This is an Xbox 360 game, if you have an Xbox 360 you should be able to play it without the need to buy additional hardware. It doesn't affect me since I am a PC gamer, but it is strange to see people finding this practice "acceptable".

I don't think people are upset. But you are brushing off the differences as if they don't matter on a board where we discuss down to the pixel. The responses were not unexpected. Nobody is saying it's unplayable. But in the past, the differences are definitely noticeable by most.

I mean, it's obvious when talking about differences we're speaking to the people who have the choice. Somebody who only owns a PS3 or a 360 obviously wouldn't care either way about this conversation.

I'm not convinced they do matter, nor am I convinced that this 'board' discusses down to the pixel for every game. Nor am I convinced that most notice. But this is, once again, my opinion.

The responses were not unexpected? Do you expect insults when expressing your opinion on this board? I certainly do not. It is not indicative to any form of discussion. People make jokes in every thread, but that is not directly insulting other members. Big difference in my eyes. The only reason I see for a person to do this is due to being somewhat upset or slighted by anothers point of view, which is somewhat childish.

But to be clear, my second post was actually agreeing with Sethos, that the statement they would look the same was PR shite, that they have to say. Go back and take a look. Nothing I posted should have made anyone upset or bothered enough to insult another member.

But we have moved on, all is well. I hope my position is clear.

Do we know if we can install the data from both discs? As in installing both discs and leaving disc 2 in the drive, so it's just like a normal installed 360 game but with an extra disc's worth of data. I'm almost positive that's the idea, but you never know with multi-disc 360 games. As far as I know GTAV is the first multi-disc game on the system that you can play from one disc - all the others, like Mass Effect 2 and 3, still make you switch discs even if they're both installed.

Popped in a 750GB 7200RPM 16MB cache 2.5" laptop drive, a WD Scorpio Black in my PS3 Slim a few months ago.

Nice to go from 320GB to 750GB. I almost feel bad for the 360 users and their overpriced HDDs.

I hope the resolution wont be shit like in Read Dead though! Yes, below 720p is bad, really bad.

I'm ok with this... i liked with Microsoft did with Halo 4 for multiplayer... so installing the full title on ps4 is fine with me.

Such good news. Never thought I'd live to see the day a 360 game had a MANDATORY install. Pity it took Microsoft so long to back off on their policy of catering to losers who were too cheap to buy a 360 with an HDD.

I don't think I have 8 gigs on my launch 60 gig PS3, how do you install hard drives again?
Just open the bottom of the PS3, remove the old hard drive and put a new one in. Simple as that :D
If you want to keep save files better make a backup before (either via the backup feature in the system options or by copying the save files to an USB stick/drive, or uploading them to the cloud storage if you have PSN+).

I already pre-ordered the 360 version, based on past releases.
I can only hope it will be the better one, since i have a 20GB HDD that i'll have to basically swipe, for GTAV.
Also, paid online means i won't be touching that side of the coin, until the PC version comes out.

Surely, core system owners have no hope. I can't possibly think of a solution to this problem.

Can't believe anyone would be shocked by news like this. It's been this way for the better part of a decade now.

Both systems have to install and it will, at worst (for 360 owners), look identical to the PS3 version.

Gonna call it a non-issue.

I don't have a problem with a one time install and then another disc to play. I played GTA4 on xbox so I'll probably do the same here but I might wait to see what performs better.

lol, I'am still rocking my 60gb OG ps3 phat, I will have to delete some demos.

It will be pretty ironic if GTA5 is the inferior version on the PS3 after all the bundles and jack tretton saying ''GTA5 will be EPIC on PS3'' .

I pray to the gaming gods that GTA5 is on par and not like RDR was on PS3.

If the PS3 version is superior then that will be just swell.

As far as I know this is the first time Microsoft has allowed a 360 game to have a *mandatory* install. They always insisted that every game was able to be played on a 360 with no HDD. Up to now it's only been optional enhancements, hi-res textures etc.

Halo 4 has a mandatory install

Also, people are losers for buying a console that the manufacturer made available?

I take it you're unfamiliar with Halo 4 and Final Fantasy XI?

That is a pre-rendered cutscene.
Like Uncharted, Last of Us or even previous R* games, only more obvious this time.

GTAIV was entirely realtime cutscenes, as was RDR.

It's coming next gen, becuase this doesn't even look in line with the trailers. Seriously. I'm bookmarking this post.

THAT is next-gen. It's coming next gen. It just is.

The game could come out on NextGen, but that screenshot is not nextgen. Rockstar has never released shots from a PC or future system and pretended that they were current gen releases. That screen is rendered by the current gen engine, but with precise angles and cleaned up. I wouldn't expect that level of player detail in in-game scenes.

I'm torn if the 360 version looks better, and if the game has a compelling multiplayer component. I don't want to sub back into Live Gold when I'm now paying for PS+. But I don't want an inferior version either...

wow this game must be immense.

"A new USB flash drive is recommended to ensure optimum performance."

Does this line mean that a flash drive is preferable over using the harddrive?

Right, but they still used much better assets than what you got in game.
What i mean is that they always used better assets and graphics quality in cutscenes, it doesn't mean it's coming for next gen (although it probably is coming).

“When are we going to see a new GTA????? #bestgameever” - received via Twitter
“When's the new grand theft auto coming out?” - received via Twitter

Big, big shout to all Grand Theft Auto fans worldwide who we know are anxious to hear about what’s next for the franchise but we don’t have any news AT THIS TIME.

-25th October 2011, GTA V announced.

July 2 2013.

“Hey Rockstar, I'm curious whether you are planning on releasing GTA V on the PC...” – received via Mouthoff
“You've probably been asked before, but is GTA V coming for next gen consoles also?” – @tomtoon2010

The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release AT THIS TIME and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.

Undetermined month of 2014... you already know what will happen.

Also, I'm a little surprised they answered the question about seeing gameplay. The "first official gameplay video is on its way" answer makes it sound like their could be a pre-release series on the way. Similar to what Max Payne 3, LA Noire, and Red Dead had.

This is very surprising to me as well, since this a first for GTA and I expected them to continue the trend with GTAV.

Means they must be very confident and probably also because the other prerelease videos for titles like Red Dead and Max Payne were very good PR-wise in generating interest/hype.
