GTA V made $800 Million in less then 24 hours, beats Black Ops 2

They're just counting the sales it's made so far, not the money Take Two's made. That would be even more insane since they only get roughly half of a $60 sale or maybe slightly more. That'd mean it sold over 20 million in 1 day.

Yeah that makes sense. 13M day one is crazy enough, especially if the numbers don't include digital versions.

What what? The ease and rates of PC piracy absolutely and significantly cannibalize console sales of cross platform titles (due to the much higher barriers associated with console modding). It's kindergarten common sense.

Do you have a source of any form or fashion? Besides your kindergarten common sense?

IIRC, the ENTIRE franchise 'only' made 1 billion with Blops 2, not one game.

You realize that makes no sense, right? The amount "made" is a function of the game's price and number of units sold. It would make no sense for CoD not to have made similar numbers with just BLOPS2 considering it sells for the same as GTA and has sold many times more units

Seriously? Nobody in their right mind could make that assumption unless they were being sarcastic.

I think the assumption was based on Saints Row IV costing NOTICEABLY less than GTA's $240,000,000 budget (marketing and development, etc), and still selling a million in a week.

This guess was pretty bad anyways, since One Million in one week, while good, isn't too amazing, and people are assuming Saints Row IV had a low production cost, because it was just "DLC".

GTA V blew Saints Row IV out of the water. :P

It's complete bullshit that hasn't been proven to have a "significant" impact regardless of whatever you think kindergarten teaches.

Any "Top Pirated Games" list ever? You can poo-poo torrent trackers and say a DL != a lost sale (rightfully so in many cases), but at the end of the day, top console games don't break a million DL's (sometimes barely even 500k) while PC releases do 3, 4, or 5 million. It is beyond ignorant to claim that kind of ratio spread will not have an impact on cross platform console title sales. Even if you still believe it to be unfounded Bullshit, a lot publishers buy it and will continue to buy it, so you're arguing with the wrong guy here. Ubisoft have openly blamed piracy for their delayed and no-release PC titles.

Is GTA V now officially the most successful entertainment launch in history?

Anyway, congrats Rockstar. You deserve it.

This is really the only reason I'm happy about this. Games that get milked every 12 months don't deserve to break records year after year.

Why not? If a franchise like COD is good enough to have yearly sequels plus keep its fans happy, why does that upset you if they break records? Just don't purchase COD if you don't want to play and stay out of COD threads.

Really can't understand why that type of shit gets some people upset.

Because it's a lazy ass series that never changes and constantly breaks records. Grinds my gears.

And this the reason why they are postponing the PC version. All the would be pirates are giving in and getting their console versions as long as no PC version is on the horizon. After a couple of months they can announce and release the PC version and rake in even more cash.

Sounds kinda far fetched.

So who asked why they didnt make this a next gen game? This is why.

Ugh. You said it will take a while for the game to be profitable. Even if R* takes only half, it´s still very profitable on day one.

1. Yes I said that, because I based it on the number available at the time, aka WW numbers of ~5-7 million. So will take a while, as in not day 1, but a few days.
2. Still not profitable, $800 million ~30% = $240 million, and ~30million to go.

There's been plenty.

They can make all the games they want. I would prefer if better games and devs were getting the userbase and money, that's all.

I'm sure Rockstar will consider that right after they finish swimming in their money/game of the year award pit

tldr; dat salt

Uh, where i live you can buy a modded console for 30 bucks more and they even install games in it for you for pretty cheap. Its actually easier than pirating on a pc.

So no.
