GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - Trailer #4

Nope, Skrulls are fair game, as long as it's not Super-Skrull.

Nah James Gunn confirmed in an interview Marvel only own partial rights to them so that's why we aren't getting them. Seemed to suggest they own more than just Super-Skrull and explained that was why they were using a race as obscure as the Sakaarans.

Edit: Would also explain why the Kree are ancient enemies with the Xandarians instead of the Skrulls in the film.

Yeah that is why they use Chturai in Avengers, they didn't want to just Skulls as just cannon fodder.

What are the best comics to read before seeing this? Does this movie follow loosley on a set?

Annihilation: Conquest - mini series is six issues, entire crossover event is about 25 issues. This is where the team takes shape.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 - their first standalone series. Runs for 25 issues and crosses over with a handful of other cosmic events.

You don't need to read any comic series because the movie is a new take on the characters. However, if you want to see where the team originated and why so many of us are infatuated with this, I'd suggest reading Abnett and Lannings 25 issue run on the series. To get the complete storyline though, you'd also probably need to read the Annihilation, Annihilation: Conquest, (especially Star-Lord mini series here) and The Thanos Imperative events. (the first 2 set the stage for the formation of the team, while the last was the comic series' ending)

I don't think anyone should expect these movies to deal with the tv show.

"These movies" as in Marvel films? That's already been happening. As for GOTG, besides there being a (Agent of Shield spoiler)
dead Kree on the show
I doubt they will go out of their way to do anything. Unless they somehow explain, in this movie, why the (agent of shield spoiler)
Kree's blood has life giving abilities and has made Colson write some mysterious shit on walls.
Actually, that last bit could completely tie into the movie somehow without the movie even needing to go out of its way to do anything.

This to be the biggest surprise hit of the summer

this is the Star wars we deserve

yeah come at me, I said it

That's the show referencing the movies, though, not the other way around.

Fun Fact: A Black Widow movie was supposed to be out August 1st instead of GotG with Nicole Perlman writing the script. However, she also ended up writing the first draft of the GotG script. When Marvel read both, they loved her GotG script so much, they scrapped whatever plans they had for Black Widow in favor of GotG & repurposed Natasha to a more prominent role in Winter Soldier (some elements of the Black Widow script made it into Winter Soldier).

This makes me wonder why they were still talking about Black Widow a few months ago. I guess it was just to drum up hype for her role in TWS.

With Johannson's pregnancy I doubt it's anything they have planned for Phase 3. Either way, I'd prefer Captain Marvel get a movie first and if they do a movie with a big Black Widow focus, I'd prefer a Widow/Hawkeye team-up or a Secret Avengers movie instead of a solo film.

Another leaked picture of the Guardians in Disney Infinity 2.0 in what will likely be their designs for their incoming animated series.

I want a GoTG cartoon in this style

Ties into GOTG2 and other MCU.
It'll most likely tie into Ultimate Spider-Man & Avengers Assemble (the cartoon, not the European name for The Avengers movie), not the MCU. But the cartoon universe shamelessly imitates the MCU, anyway.
