- GROOT PISSED AT AVATAR THIEF

So I ended up seeing this preview last night.

It was presented to me, by my friend who got the tickets, as the whole movie with 17 minutes of extra footage.

The theatre employee, who struggled with speaking in english, did not mention it was only 17 minutes.

James Gunn also didn't mention it was just a preview.

So when it started and the whole beginning of the movie was missing, the whole theatre was perplexed. Then, it ended and the new trailer came on and everyone was kinda pissed... but really excited to see the movie too.

That 17 minutes REALLY sold me on the movie. It was HILARIOUS. Rocket Raccoon is just plain awesome. There's a great scene where Groot.. let's say, show's who's boss.

And the "Joke" Rocket plays is so god damn amazing.

Also, YAY at the Lloyd Kaufman cameo :)

For some reason every time I see a new trailer has come out I go into watching it expecting to be disappointed but every time it gets me more hyped up for the movie.

Is rocket the only one who can actually understand Groot? I was under the impression his level of thought is far beyond a lot of people and very subtle changes in the way he says "i am groot" mean different things completely.

I hope so.

The Winter Soldier episodes on SHIELD were bloody awesome.

Yup. The ending of SHIELD S1 left me very curious about GOTG ties:
First Garrett mentioned something about the galaxy when asked what he could see. And the thing Coulson was drawing looked sort of cosmic/starmap-esque. Total speculation but it wouldn't be too far fetched. They did show us the Kree body in an earlier episode

I think he means it's not as recognizable as something like iron man, thor etc.

I think awareness is up and it'll make hella muns.

lol what?

before their first movies / avengers they were D list heroes remember? Oh we've all recanted those claims now? Its just a movie it doesnt have to be mainstream before it comes out , starwars didnt have a following before it came out.

DList? By whose standards?

D List is a bit much but anyone who thought Iron Man was going to make a fuck load of money when it released is a liar

People have historically underestimated almost every Marvel movie release up until Avengers, then all bets were off because that has provided a bump to most of the franchises and should rub off some on GoTG

I have a friend who doesn't read comics who wants to watch it, but I also need to talk my brother into watching this. I don't think he has even heard of the movie before so it will be interesting to see how he reacts.

I'm curious to know how GotG will fly with audiences in my country (Brazil), the title characters in the other Marvel movies all had at least some mind share beforehand (even if people didn't know anything about Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America, for years before the movies most people already knew their names and what they looked like. This isn't the case with anyone in GotG). The trailers and/or Marvel name alone seems to be getting people wanting to give it a chance though.

Well, Iron Man would attract the robot suit loving crowd, I guess (and RDJ). I didn't know Thor was a comic book character when I went to see the Thor movie, I thought it was a weird retelling of the Norse mythology. And I know several people who only went to see Captain America because it made them feel patriotic or because they saw it as a World War II movie.

So, even though they weren't exactly mainstream per se, they dealt with things that your average moviegoer could get in on even if they didn't have a clue what was going on.

Personally, I think Guardians will work the same way. People don't know the heroes, but (I hope) they know a good space opera when they see one. With all these depressing scifi movies that have come out lately, it's a breath of fresh air to have something kinda campy and none too serious. Seriously, there's been this trend of so many sci fi movies being about technology trying to kill people because it's out of control and less of that good old-fashioned fun and wonder.

I don't think anyone should expect these movies to deal with the tv show.

Well, unlike TDW or TWS, GotG was in production late enough that it's not impossible for something to have been included as a deliberate tie-in to Agents of SHIELD, perhaps in the few Earth scenes. I'm sure it'd be pretty minor, though, and I still wouldn't bet on it.

Entertainment Weekly did - with a domestic gross of $262M.
