Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s (PS2) [PR at post #170]

Kumiko Nikaido

Vindication...sweet.
Heads up Guitar Hero fans! Activision will be releasing this Guitar Hero II expansion disc for PS2 covering 80's music come this July 19th. No idea if this content will be available on a stand-alone disc for Xbox 360 users, but most likely this content will be made available through Xbox Live!

Guitar Hero II: Rockin' the 80's - Expansion Disc for PS2 will rock your house for $39.99.

Track list and what's it an expansion pack of, gh1 or 2? Does that mean i still need my gh1/2 cds?

Does it come with a synthesizer?

Going by Marketplace prices, that disk must have around 38 song huh? Remember its 6 dollars per 3 songs.

So it finally gets announced. Now all we need is a confirmation on Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix.

This shit better be on XBLM. Hopefully we'll hear news of songs in the game soon.

It'll probably be $100 on XBLM.

Btw, when you say expansion disc...do you mean expansion kind of like those Beatmania append discs? Or will it be stand alone?

Actually, I guess it's called an expansion because it won't be bundled with the guitar

I predict 80's tracklist will be MAD fun to play but thye had better make the XBL cost the same as the PS2 release or I will spit frets.

Wasnt this one of the EGM Rumors? :lol

No. EGM mentioned it in the first issue of 2007 but it wasn't listed as an official rumor. They guessed it would be out around the time GH2 X360 would come out. They also said Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix is coming to the U.S. on the same page

You say "expansion disc", but this is really a standalone game, isn't it? I don't have to do any lame swapping of my original GH2 disc, right?

For anyone still looking for GH2 on PS2, it's $60 shipped (free shipping) from Buy.com if you use Google Checkout.

$39.99/$6 x 3 = 20 songs

or

38 songs / 3 per pack x $6 = $76 on XBLA :(

F*** you Microsoft and Activision.

GH2 songs suck balls?

I donno I find just about all of them entertaining. I'm kind of a huge music geek so perhaps that's why.

There are some definite gems in the GH2 soundtrack but the ones that are bad are freaking TERRIBLE songs, so terrible that I played GH2 about 10% as much as I played GH1. These 80's songs will be welcomed by me with open arms since 80's music was wacky fun times

Yeah there were a lot of terrible tracks on GH2. I think what killed it for me was, ironically, the practice mode. I would try songs on Expert, I'd play the tough sections a couple of times in practice and say to myself 'Eh, I really can't be bothered.' Put the game down a lot quicker than GH1. I was so into GH1 I found it impossible to even take the disc out of my PS2.

Maybe it was the fact that practice mode allowed them to make those Expert guitar solos stupid hard? I dunno. I did take the time to learn a couple of them...went back a couple months later and couldn't remember how to do them at all. Bleh. :P

Anyway, I'm sort of cautiously optimistic about this. I'll reserve judgment until we see a track list.

A few must haves:

-R.E.M. - It's the End of the World as We Know It
-Vapors - Turning Japanese
-Quiet Riot - Mental Health
-A-Ha - Take On Me
-Michael Jackson - Beat It
-Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

and too bad it's not some kind of violin/banjo hero 80's addition, or we'd get Come on Eileen.

Looking forward to this.

Well here's to hoping when they announce this for 360 they don't **** it up. Is this Neversoft's first Guitar Hero? It's branded GH2 so does that mean they'll triple dip on the same content for pedal support in GH3? Obviously they won't hit a homerun with their digital solution for 360 cause I doubt they'll price it cheaper than the PS2 version. Hopefully they'll price it the same even if they have to put it on a disc. Maybe that's the way to go, I mean they know how many GH2's they've sold and how many people are playing it on Live. I'd prefer the convenience of not having to put a disc in drive and having the rest of my GH2 library at my fingertips as well.

As an aside I've decided to earn my way into the GH2 by playing my friends in Pro Face Off for money. I've got $4 saved but I would had it if I hadn't lost $2 but sometimes you just can't twiddle the little diddlies but I always waggle my whammy. Anyways hate to be a sucker but **** it I'm gonna earn me some Killer Queen. :D

I'd be willing to bet they go with some more obscure stuff. I mean anyone who has the balls to put Tatooed Love Boys in a game is probably going to mix it up really well.

I think they do a really great job of finding interesting songs. I even end up liking the pop songs, so I'm looking forward to what they choose. I also get the bonus of being from Boston, so it's weird to see local bands on there too.

Last I checked Ace of Spades had 43,000 people on the leaderboard.

Do you think Killer Queen is more popular than Ace of Spades?

God I would LOVE for the whole 80's game to be downloadable.
