Guitar Hero World Tour IGN Blowout

Competition is a good thing. If it weren't for Rock Band, I guarantee we'd all be getting GH3 with a gimmicky new feature and new songs instead of all this.

There are a fair number of situations where you'd want to play a single low open string for effect on bass--not so much on guitar. For one thing, on guitar you're less likely to be using the absolute bottom register in the first place, where on bass that's quite common.

And just as a reminder, the buttons (or in this case lack of buttons) represent frets, not strings, and if anything your average bass will have more accessible fret columns than your average guitar. Obviously the total number of possible notes a bass can play is generally lower than on a guitar, but since Guitar Hero and Rock Band reduce the total number by such a great amount anyway, that's kind of irrelevant.

I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but I've always been under the impression the standards are 24 frets for bass, and 22 for guitar.

I should get Rock Band in by tomorrow (I know, Europe lol) and now I see what GHIV is offering...damn I just know I'm gonna have two sets of drums etc. in my room at the end of the year.

Bass: 4 strings
Guitar: 6 strings

It would be nice to see the guitar get the open fretting too. There's a lot metal and rock parts that involve the bottom open tones alternating with the frets. (the beginning of Flash of the Blade comes to mind)

Love to see how Rock Band 2 responds.

Just wait for World Tour dude, save your money. ^o^

Sounded like he already paid the money. At that point, might as well enjoy it.

Hopefully with a much much much better strum bar.

I think "new hardware" is all-around a requirement, long as the old gear is compatible. I'm glad Activision didn't go screw that pooch with World Tour's guitars.

Are they going to sell the game by itself so those of us that just want to play guitar with their older guitars can still play the songs in this game?

I tried the rockband experiment and the drums, while a great concept, just didn't hit home for me and I ended up selling rockband on craigslist because of it. I have realized that I only want the guitar portions of this genre, I don't care for the drums or microphone.

Yes, here's the current SKUs:

Game (PS2, Wii): $50
Game (PS3, 360): $60

Guitar + Game (PS2): $90
Guitar + Game (Wii, PS3, 360): $100

Guitar + Bass + Microphone + Drums + Game (PS2): $180
Guitar + Bass + Microphone + Drums + Game (Wii, PS3, 360): $190

So there's something for everyone (except those of us who only want the drums and game. </3)

A drums + game bundle would seem like a smart move since there's so many GH guitars sold already.

Anyway, still on the fence here. I'll probably grab at least the standalone game, but I really don't want another drumset.

Any mention of 3 player guitar instead of 2 guitar and drums? As someone else said, I don't care for drums as I don't like playing them and they take up so much room. However, it would be cool to have 4 player with one singer and 3 guitars.

Hm.

It seems far, far, far better than Rock Band [or is it just me?], let's hope the final game delivers!

It better sound better, they've had almost a year to copy Rock Band and add more crap to the formula.

arrgh so I got GH3 for 360 and was gonna buy rockband for the ps3 (free online).

Wtf do i do? wait and get everything for 360 with no online play or get rockband and wait to see if it´s compatible with GH this time?

4 strings are for amateurs.

And I've seen him use every single string of that bass.

Wait for Rock Band 2 details first. ;)

I didn't wanna be 'that guy', but... yea. This is a hype play. Wait until all the cards are on all the tables before claiming whether this or RB2 (and yes it is happening, it's bloody obvious) is better.

If only Activision didn't have a god-awful DLC policy I could support this, but out of principle I won't unless there is a drastic change. The shitty thing is if Harmonix is going to match this, they'll have to reconfigure their own hardware sets forcing people to buy another set of Rock Band drums/guitar/etc.

Dont get me wrong, im sure rb2 will be good as well, but im just a guy who likes both and most likely will get both.

They can match most of the software features without new hardware. It's the hardware-specific features that GH is gonna have over RB. Songs are largely agnostic; I think only Aerosmith and Harmonix-based bands are tied to either side, and I don't see it changing too much, so anything could really go either way.

me too but I may hold off on my purchase IF RB2 really delivers on there old DLC support and a exciting tracklisting along with strong DLC support out the gate. I will end up with both though no doubt.

You sound bitter :P

It doesn't sound bitter at all. It's the absolute truth.

Harmonix foolishly left a lot of brain-dead obvious features that it was easy for Neversoft to pick up and run with it.

RB 2 will have everything RB1 was missing and what GHWT will have.

Dammit, running out of space in my room and I'll definitely be running out of HD space on my Music Playing 360 machine. -_-

I feel myself getting slowly roped back into Guitar Hero, but there is absolutely no way that I will purchase any DLC unless Activision assures me that it will be future-proof AND integrated into the world tour mode.

And fuck, Everlong. One of my favorite songs ever. I was hoping to see it in Rock Band soon.

We don't know that though. Harmonix's laziness cannot be left out of the equation. :p

true... but hmx hardware is crap and I don't know anyone in my circle of friends that has not had problems

Either way... I am sure RB2 will have good features too.. but I will end up with both I am sure, except rb2 may end up being disc only

well it does say in the article they are going to have a gh store and deliver constant dlc and full albums as well..

Red Octane ftw! They know how to make reliable hardware.

They said they'd have constant DLC before GH2 360 and GH3.

Sorta want; game sounds good but I don't want a 2nd drumset eating up my living room.

This package does sound awesome.

I will wait and see what RB2 offers though before deciding which franchise to throw down money upon.

This is still going to end up pretty sad though. Next year there will be RB3 and GH5 with another brand new set of peripherals. I just want one set I can use for years on end. I don't have room for a ton of of plastic toys. But at least the GH4 set looks less like a toy like the RB pieces do.

Hopefully the note charts are not nearly as ridiculous as GH3's. That is my only reservation about the game.

OMFG

OMFG

OMFG

.........RB2 has got some big ass competition

And everlong is in? FUCK ME.

But like the others I refuse to hype this game up until RB2 is officially announced and some info is drawn up. I really can't wait to see how HMX responds.

I hope the gh4 guitar is the last one, i already got a GH 1 2 3 guitar, and now the rockband set, i hope they put everything in they can this time around.

oh, and since GH2 it had that Ethernet port for a pedal, they have NEVER used it, Please do so in GH4 neversoft.

I just finished reading the article and I'm impressed. My only experience with music games is with GH2 and GH3 with knowledge of Rockband, but GH:WT sounds ridiculously awesome. I'm buying that game at launch. Believe.

In the GI preview Activision said they hope people would be playing this for years to come, so this will probably be the last main release for a while. They'll still probably do spinoffs like Metallica nad Aerosmith though, hopefully they'll even do instrument-specific releases (let's hope guitar instrumentals aren't gone forever.)

I really wish Activision would sell the instruments separately. I want the drums only although the guitar looks awesome.

Yeah me too. I'm happy with the GH3 guitar, but I would love to pick up just the drums.

Guitar Hero 3 looked awesome on paper too. Neversoft/Vicarious Visions need to deliver the goods.

Fixed. >_>

And what was wrong with GH3? D:

I've had so much fun playing drums in rockband... I'll probably buy this too, though I will wait for the drums only version. My biggest desires / concern are only with the build quality and ease of use of the drum set. I'm already concerned about that footpedal sliding around on the ground. Really hope the drums are as quiet as advertised and hope drum rolls feel better then they do on the rockband set.
