Guitar Hero World Tour IGN Blowout

I am still completely confused why the start and select buttons are on the "palm mute" area.

The reason that is a palm mute area, as any guitarist (real or plastic) can attest, is because your palm is there the whole time you're playing. I'm buying this game no matter what, but I don't understand how I'm not going to accidentally pause the game 20 times during the first song.
 
ah, i thought i read the bass was an entirely new guitar or something (aka they couldnt be interchanged/used for either)

i was on my lunch break after a long week, but yay for being quoted like 4 times

its only palm mute for editor mode, ingame its a STARPOWER button.

I think comes from, in a lot of hardcore gamers opinions, where Harmonix is looked at as a kind of Pixar in the music game genre. They have yet to release anything that could even be considered average. So to sum it up, their track record is where all the bias is coming from.

I think it's more because Neversoft has a pretty terrible track record when it comes to following up "peak" games. Look at Spiderman 3 and THPS<X+5>. GH3 is almost identical to THPSU in that Neversoft decided that the best way to improve on an outstanding game was to add things that just don't belong (boss fights) or are designed to appeal to sweaty teen boys (the entire art style, although I totally applaud Neversoft for what I hope was an intentional slamming of Tom Morello by having him play in the level with the most flagrant downloadable ads), while at the same time not fixing anything from the previous game (the money/unlockable system).
 
Someone was asking about sharing custom songs between systems, and it's kind of answered in the Wii Q&A:

The Wii version will be very similar to the PS3/360 version, but the content sharing can only be traded within the Wii community.

I'm not too concerned about this, Wii has the biggest userbase and the Wii version will probably sell the most, so it should have enough of a pool of hardcore mixers that it can readily compare or surpass the other versions.

Ah ok. I was hoping they did that, but I couldn't tell on the pic I saw.

I can't remember what guitar version it was, but I had a huge problem of hitting the select button all the time on one of 'em because my hand covers so much. I guess that's just a natural problem from only playing metal on a real guitar (my hand defaults to a palm muting stance).

So I guess the problem now is that I'm always going to auto-deploy star power. Still seems kind of silly.

My first Rock Band guitar had a semi-busted sensor so the star power auto-deployed. It made beating the final Expert tier impossible. I still have to use one of my GH2 Xplorers whenever I'm being serious about it.

I don't think anyone can say that till the game comes out

If I recall correctly, people were awaiting GH3 anxiously with the great track listing announcements they made, but in the end they fucked it all up when it came to core gameplay. The same is still possible with this game.

I'm still excited for it though

I'm wondering if the DLC bought from GH3 will carry over to GHWT. This will be a big selling point for when it's time to choose which version I'm going to get.

GH3 is an awesome game. Only HMX-can-do-no-wrong haters think the opposite. In fact, only thing you could complain about were boss battles (although people got crazy at it, because you can skip them, except for Lou, which is the last boss, so there's no NEED to bet him), a severe difficulty spike from tier 6 to 7 and a too big window for HO/PO.

The main engine was much improved from GH2 and is better for playing that RB's (albeit much uglier).

Edit: DLC has been confirmed on the Wii. Where're all the trolls claiming it wasn't feasible and laughing at our face?
 
I sat down with the PS2 version of GH:Aerosmith for a while. REALLY sloppy work there. There's still hope the Neversoft version is a little cleaner, but I remain skeptical.

The same bugs are still present. The same text descriptions for EVERYTHING is still there. It's hardly a new skin. I'd say new songs and loading screen and WORSE gameplay. (Seriously)

The only time you can choose a song is which opening act to play first on that tier. After that, it's ALL in order.

*ugh* I feel dirty for wasting time with it.
 
I wouldn't say worse gameplay, since HO/PO are much tighter now. However, the career mode are very restrictive, which is a shame.

Quickplay has the first 10 songs available. I didn't have the patience to unlock any, but I bought a handful of bonus songs.
I was surprised, unless I entered it wrong, but the GH3 unlock all code didn't work.
 
I don't want to get this because of the dirty whoring by activision and their guitar compatibility policy, but if the song list is good I'll pick up the game (assuming it even works with the PS3 GH3 controller)

It's been stated that old Gibson will work with GHWT.
 
As I predicted, the GH:Aerosmith game looks like an incredibly cheap cash-in with no redeeming value whajtsoever. There is exactly one moderately difficult song in the game, which I expect to be FCed within the week, and that's pretty much it. There are very few songs and a lot of the charts are poorly made. If anything, it looks like an even worse effort than '80s: at least with '80s there were some pretty difficult songs and it didn't have the boredom factor that playing the same band forever does. The only thing I can see that is clearly improved are the HOPOs, which are finally tight enough that it looks like I'll feel comfortable playing Gh4 with them. I suggest that anyone who is not a diehard Aerosmith fan not even consider this game.

Haha, well, if all third parties were selling this much on the Wii I'm sure they'd suddenly find a lot of things were very feasible.

I can't believe it took them THREE guitars to get the select button right. But at least it's there now. Makes me feel like a jackass for having a Les Paul and the Xplorer.

As for all the Wii talk... Am I just out of touch when I think the lead/better selling SKU will be the 360 version and the majority of Wii owners don't even download VC/WiiWare games, let alone bother with DLC?

Wii SKU has been on the Top 10 since release. I don't know the exact numbers, but the Wii version has crossed the 2 million mark in the US alone. About downloads and whatnot, we cannot know, since there're no hard updated numbers.

No, they specifically said GH tunes and famous songs. Not the same DLC songs that will be appearing on 360/PS3. It's in the IGN article.
You can create songs, upload them, download them, and purchase famous downloadable tracks on Wii.

I'll be getting either the PS3 or 360 version, but yeah the Wii version will have DLC like the other platforms. I doubt very much they'd be charging for user created songs.

There's also the ghost HOs in the middle of a string of the same note for no real reason, and the "overstrum" bug.

I find it ...difficult to play GH3, which is a shame because it's default songlist DESTROYS Rock Band's. The DLC makes RB better though.

I want to want GH:WT, but I'm frightened that they won't fix the obvious problems, instead pouring in things that I don't really care about (like the music creator stuff).
 
GH3 was not bad. It was inexperienced.

Let me explain : Harmonix knows how to make a rythm game. They've been doing this for years. GH and GHII were challenging, but still made you feel like a rockstar. It was tough, but it was 'fair toughness'.
Neversoft on the other hand, never made a rythm game before Guitar Hero III. They've got the 'Hey let's make a challenging game' part right, but it was just by pulling power chords out of nowhere and adding notes where there weren't any. Sometimes you failed a song not only because it was hard, but because it was even harder in the game. The engine had some good improvements, like being able to make HO/PO after a sustained note, and it was a great game. It just lacked Harmonix's experience with rythm games.

Now, one year later, Neversoft gained some experience, with both the DLC and GH:Aerosmith. Stuff like the Muse pack's charts makes me trust their ability to pull out some good things.

I think you're reading too much into it. There's no reason why they'd waste the charts of other versions and paid rights by not realsing those songs on the Wii. By famous songs I understand "not-user-generated-content.

I don't know what you mean by the ghostling HOs. I never had a problem with the strum bar (Wii user here).

Well, I don't think you're giving credit enough to the Music Creator. It's not only about creating song, but about enjoing other's creations. I'm pretty sure we will see awesome user created songs in no time.

While I agree on the sentiment, I think many people treat Neversoft unfairly. If you take GHII charts or some of the GH80s charts, you'll find the same problems present in GHIII. There're unfairly hard charts, like Crazy on You. We can find examples of HMX doing bad charting. For istance, for me it's harder to play Paranoid on RB than it's on GHIII.

The big problem I see in Neversoft charting is that many times there's not a good learning curve. When you jump to expert, everything gets kind of crazy, but most of the songs in hard are too easy to enjoy, except for tier seven and eight, which are too hard. Thus you find yourself playing songs that are too difficult or too easy.

That's the big problem I see with their charting. It lacked better bridge songs. But well, it's more about game progression than about charting.

Not the mic (and if I read correctly any USB mic should work including RB's), but the other ones all need a Wiimote. So you'll need three to play with all 4 people.
 
Well a remote comes with the system, so if you play solo vocals, that shouldn't be an issue. If you're playing with more people they can move around the menus with the instrument.

A mic needs its own control to choose their own difficulty and such while playing in the other versions so I'm guessing it'll need a remote here too
 
Oh snap, I just realized that you need another Wii remote so the vocalist can set their difficulty rating.

So then you will need four wiimotes...

Now I don't feel so stupid buying four all those months ago for just a few games. So many things are coming out to justify my purchase!
