It was alright.
Belgand said:Not to mention: what are you doing up at 5 AM? I mean, I know I'm up, of course I'd be up. But shouldn't you be asleep like the normal people in our time zone?

TheGreatDave said:Lets remove "Official". I've never understood that shit.
xbhaskarx said:I'm supposedly reviewing a file before I meet a client on Tuesday, but instead I'm finding ten different ways to distract myself, including this thread, a movie, and a recent issue of the Economist.
Johnkers said:Can't we go back to Belgand's topic? He sure might have some terrible opinions but he made a fine rumour topic!
xbhaskarx said:You could be a little more enthusiastic about having just watched one of the greatest cinematic achievements of our generation...
Johnkers said:Can't we go back to Belgand's topic? He sure might have some terrible opinions but he made a fine rumour topic!
Belgand said:Reading the Economist makes you a decidedly better person. After spending my high school years in debate I'm amazed that people can tolerate the terrible quality of most American news magazines.
TheGreatDave said:I think I'll enjoy it more the second time. Which will be happening soon.

TheGreatDave said:Belgand's opinions are always delivered in such a way that I feel if I disagree I'm probably incorrect. Except for the Cherub Rock BRE thing.
xbhaskarx said:Dude, WTF. Seriously, are you stalking me or making fun of me or something?
Do we know each other?
Woffls said:But by removing "Official" gaf will run riot and make several other threads for GHWT then we will ALL BE D00MED!
And Platform is stupid as well, 'World Tour' isn't a platform because the next game wont be called World Tour.
"I Don't Remember If It Was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster: The Guitar Hero IV Thread"
I don't like calling it World Tour, roman numerals are epic.

Also, wtf is with the spin off hate i get everywhere. Why are people complaining about more choice?
Belgand said:My opinions, however, are perfect. You are lucky to be able to have them expressed so vehemently in your vague directions.
Belgand said:Not even remotely. I lived in Kansas until 2006. We are simply the sort of people who have lived our lives correctly. I am currently endeavoring to be certain that everything I do is done... to the MAX!
Johnkers said:Music, movies and games. All that jazz is one thing, total opinion where right/wrong is an impossible measure.
But I'm ready to bring back pizza discussion again!
xbhaskarx said:Dude, TOO MANY coincidences...
-never been interested in drinking
-got into punk in high school
-became "straight edge"
-make fun of nu-metal in the RB thread
-the whole Coen brothers discussion in the RB thread
-you're in molecular/genetic biology, my mom is a prof in that field
-you currently live in the SF area, i lived there for many years
-you live a block from the Daly City BART station, is that right? i used to live right near the intersection of san diego and hillcrest for a few years
-i love the Economist so much i even have a quote about it in my IM profile
-we both did high school debate! (policy? L-D?)
-and apparently we were even born in the same freaking month...
Belgand said:No.
The correct and acceptable possible toppings for a hamburger are as follows: cheese, bacon, ham, pineapple, avocado, ketchup, barbecue sauce, lettuce, pickle, In 'n Out spread.
Incorrect toppings: tomato, raw onion, mushrooms, beetroot (fuck you Australia), swiss cheese, blue cheese, mustard, mayonaise, Big Mac secret sauce, anything done because Jimmy Buffett told you to do it (including things unrelated to hamburgers).
Also, wtf is with the spin off hate i get everywhere. Why are people complaining about more choice?
Belgand said:This is odd. Yeah, I live on St. Charles Ave. I'm still within city limits. Where'd you move to now? I thought you were still local.
Policy debate. China was the best topic. Russia was less so. Domestic topics were rarely as good as foreign topics, but I oddly never got into extemp. Because of the way East Kansas NFL is structured debate was in the fall and forensics was in the spring so we got to do both. I did student congress. Since it was always held on Fridays at the same time as L-D it also meant I got to sleep on Saturdays instead of doing individual events. This is best way. L-D is not proper debate. I have basic issues with the concept of competitive debate based on moral and ethical issues.
Johnkers said:I'm just going to stop here. You think pineapple is all good, but no love for tomato or beetroot?
Don't get me wrong, pineapple is rad too (with chicken, and maybe bacon, but no beef!), but your distaste for tomato and beetroot disgusts me!
TheGreatDave said:People have been trained to think songs being on different discs is evil. I'm not opposed to discs, but they have to be good value (GH:A was borderline) and have the export feature. That really is a best of both worlds scenario.
xbhaskarx said:So, just RB1 (so far) then?
Belgand said:Raw tomato is an abomination. Everywhere. Period.
Pineapple is not ideal, but I've had it enjoyably before. It is perhaps in the grey area of things that are perhaps acceptable, but not ideal.
Beetroot is something I can honestly say I have never had on a hamburger. The concept sounds unpleasant. It was mainly included just as an obvious bit of baiting calculated on the premise that as an Australian you would likely have strong feelings on it. Nobody else in the world puts it on burgers. So I'm not decided on it, but yeah, just to screw with you. You rose to the bait admirably. :lol You have done your culture proud in it's defense.
xbhaskarx said:Yeah, I used to live in the city (Oak and Fillmore) before that, but then I switched girlfriends.
I'm up in Davis, just finished law school.
I also did policy debate, because it was clearly better, and I did immigration and China.
I wouldn't say LD is not proper debate, it's all about the style and quality of the arguments. I'm surprised by the relativist views on moral and ethical issues, from someone who is so judgmental when it comes to music, movies, games, and pizza.
I'm just glad to know you're not vegan, as I may not have to worry about you going "Tom Ripley" on me...
Johnkers said:Tomato is amazing, I even occasionally eat it Apple style, like the fruit it is!
Johnkers said:As for Beetroot, try it out dude. You wouldn't think a toy guitar would provide endless hours of entertainment either, but it's amazing. Also, for every Aussie beetroot fan, I could easily find opposition to the wonderful thing.
Johnkers said:It's like olive haters, no reason why such a thing should exist
TheGreatDave said:I eat next to no fruit or veg. I'm a terrible person to eat with.
Belgand said:It tastes very alkaline to me. I can't tolerate it until you cook it's flavor away enough.
It would be basically not possible. I have absolutely no idea where I would even start with such an undertaking. I am lead to believe that "beetroot" is simply a beet. But beyond that... is it raw? Pickled? How is it sliced? I'm just at a loss to understand.
Olive oil is great. Olives themselves are horrible.
I also dislike coffee. Tea all the way.
Johnkers said:Grab a can at the market! Pickled, sliced, awesome.
Belgand said:Yeah, I have incredibly strong feelings on matters of opinion, but on moral issues I'm a complete relativist, but also a pacifist. It's complicated. Especially on the occasions where you start moving from theory to practice... but that's the case with everything.
Essentially I'm just a very passionate, opinionated person. There is, however, a strong element of hyperbole in perhaps everything I say.
Belgand said:Olive oil is great. Olives themselves are horrible.

Johnkers said:Great coffee is amazing. I'm more of a tea fan too though.
'Kalamata' is a large, black olive with a smooth and meatlike taste, named after the city of Kalamata, Greece, used as a table olive.
xbhaskarx said:Do you have emotional problems? You know, I myself dabbled in pacifism once...
Okay that's better, we're quite different after all.
I'm about as far from being a complete relativist as possible, I'm not sure how I'd define it, moral absolutism/universalism or deontological ethics or something along those lines...
And despite growing up in Berkeley, being a vegan, and driving a Prius, I'm certainly not a pacifist.
So if you're both a pacifist and a relativist, by being a pacifist are you not valuing the moral principle of non-violence above all else?
And although I'm a very opinionated person, there is almost no hyperbole in anything I say, I choose my words very carefully.
xbhaskarx said:I have never tried either (non-herbal) tea or coffee.
Coffee smells terrible, I imagine it tastes the same.
xbhaskarx said:I like both fruits and vegetables, but I dislike fruit-vegetables: eggplant, bell pepper, tomato
I can't stand the first two at all (okay I've never actually tried them...), and I can only eat uncooked tomato in small amounts (bruschetta or cherry tomato), or cooked if it's a paste/sauce/soup and not squishy with peel everywhere.
Apparently they're all in the same family or something...
xbhaskarx said:Edit 2: nightshades: capsicum, potato, tobacco, tomato, eggplant.

Belgand said:Ah, you're one of those "no caffeine" edgers? Never got into that part of it. Caffeine is an essential part of every day. Giving it up would mean I would probably also start to lose some of my not-inconsiderable geek cred as well (e.g. full bookshelf of RPGs, computer science minor, Linux fanboyism, TMBG fan, too many boxes of comics taking up my nearly non-existant storage space, etc.) plus I'd have to get rid of my caffeine molecule t-shirt.
Coffee smells great, but tastes awful. This continues to confound me. I've been slowly trying to build up an ability to appreciate it. I hate having something else that I could be a complete snob about and not being able to take part in it. Missing out on wine snobbery is bad enough. At least tea snobbery is even less common so I score some extra elitist points right there. Like looking down on that terrible herbal shite. It's not even proper tea.
Yes, along with nightshade. This is a warning to avoid them. Eggplant, however, if properly salted and such can be made largely edible.
