Gunfire Reborn Is An Extraordinary Roguelike FPS

Early Access is rapidly becoming something I actively seek out instead of avoiding. This is especially true of roguelike games, because if the core is good, then Early Access just means you’re going to get more of that good stuff. That’s not always the case, of course, but it certainly feels true of Gunfire Reborn, which falls into my favourite category of game; the co-op roguelike.

Gunfire Reborn is a first-person shooter with roguelike gameplay. Your aim is to make it through the procedurally-generated levels and come out the other side alive. Naturally, that’s easier said than done, but hey, at least it’s fun. You take control of one of two heroes, at least as far as I’m aware, and both of those have unique abilities and progressions to keep things varied. It’s satisfying, and the gameplay is really well done. The weapons you pick up all feel meaningfully different, and the abilities you can unlock allow for some really cool builds.

It’s also rather nice to look at, with a lovely cel-shading and visual aesthetic. Some of the enemies you fight seem to be made of clay, and not only come together from shards on the floor, but fall apart when destroyed as well. There’s an incredibly satisfying noise whenever you land a critical hit on one as well. It’s all just very well made, and the fact that it’s only going to get better from here on out is genuinely very exciting. I can’t wait to see where Gunfire Reborn goes.

Pity the game is on early access but it has many positive reviews on the Steam page. Good price also, at least in my region. Anyone here play it?

I have played it, gave it about 50 hours.

The core gameplay is pretty fun and the enemies are challenging and noticeably different in the way they apporach you.

After you die there is a very helpful skill tree that you can put your earned spirit into kinda like souls or exp.

Early on you will barely manage to get past the first boss but after you max out the tree it all becomes alot easier till the final boss, which after beating him leads to a hard mode.

However I do feel like once you max the skill tree and get all weapons eventually the fun wears off and this is where I've quit personally.

It is a good game and tbh feels complete as an indie claiming to be early access, not sure what else they are going to add in the future besides more characters.

Many thanks for the detailed answer! I think I will give it a try when I finish Remnant. Good to know it feels complete since I usually don't like to play in early access.
