Reading this article and I'm thinking man, that's gotta be crazy to be the family of this dude... So many things have to be running through their mind. They're like half the country away from their son and then suddenly they wake up one day and he's a vicious murderer. How do you even deal with that. I bet their minds are racing, trying to figure out when or if they ever did wrong or what they could have done.

You have grossly simplified some peoples argument to point where it comes off as a narrow minded view. Its either you lack the intellectual capacity to understand what they are fully saying or its just that you, yourself are focused on a single point that you must contort their arguments. People aren't universally or morally aligned on a single path. They have different ways of dealing with situations just leave them be.
Are you the resident troll? You are seriously coming at my neck because I want people to do what they want and not attack others for doing what they want.

Because they are making a statement that may have the power to influence those who are in power. Didn't they already stop showings of the movie in Europe and there was a threat it would happen here for a while?

On top of that, choosing not to see the movie when you previously were going to, may be considered overreacting, while actually changing nothing. I think it just irks them more than anything though.

How about we not speculate on the reasons and just let people decide whether they want to see a move or not without the sanctimony? Jeez.

News from his apartment; loud music went off in his apartment last night. Stopped at 1 am. Neighbors say it was very unusual for him. There's speculation that he wanted somebody to come to the apartment and open to the door to perhaps set off the booby traps. He marked trash at his apartment as evidence. Bought two guns legally from Bass Pro Shop. BPS followed all protocols and background checks.

All 4 guns purchased legally, from 3 different locations locally.

James Holmes has officially requested an attorney

no it's not. if anything, people are oversensitive to these kinds of events and tend to get completely ridiculous over something that happened hundreds of miles away from them.

What does distance matter? A tragic event happened somewhere. It doesn't matter if it was in my backyard or across the ocean, I'm still going to feel emotions about it.

Well first of all, its not "a movie"... Its the movie that was being shown during the shooting. Second are you telling me you would totally forget about this if you were to decide to go see the movie in an hour? You wouldn't think about it at all? People aren't worried that they are gonna get shot if they go see this movie, but because they are saddened by this shooting, they don't want to go see something that could potentially just remind them of what it must have been like to be in that Aurora theater.

Yes, I am honestly saying that.

Because there's no connection. People get killed doing all sorts of things. People get murdered while sitting on airplanes, shopping at the mall, going to school, going to movie theaters, going to theaters, having sex, eating dinner, taking showers, waiting for the bus...

9/11 has never, ever crossed my mind while sitting on an airplane. Maybe it has crossed my mind in passing once or twice when dealing with the uppity security protocol in airports, but usually I'm just thinking about how stupid and pointless and inconvenient everything is, not 9/11 or people dying or anything like that. I can honestly say that. I never was reminded or affected by VTech in the 4 years I went to college. Columbine wasn't in the back of my mind when I went to school. Drive by shootings aren't in my mind when I'm waiting for the bus or crossing the street or eating dinner. a murder at a steakhouse I heard about on the news isn't on my mind when I go out for steak later that weekend.

I don't think about Abe Lincoln when I go see a play.

The reactions are STUPID

Agreed. No offense, but whatever mod pulled that crap needs to change it.

Mods tend to make the corniest thread titles/edits and member titles.

This is quite an odd case if the guy didn't appear to be an antisocial loner. To shoot up a theater showing one of the biggest films of the year means he must have been doing it for attention. But he doesn't seem to be bringing attention to anything except himself.

Robert Holmes, suspect's father is in town, and has been escorted by the Denver PD. He is fully cooperating.

There must've been ton of signs.

I don't see what's so horrible about the title. It says "Remember Aurora" in all caps. It's just a nice gesture.

I thought the hiding of the name and the black ribbons inside were to commemorate the victims not to make fun of it.

Am I misconstruing this.

Probably better if it wasn't done but where is the malicious intent.

Resident troll, I like that. It clear that your oblivious to your own pattern. I'm not going argue anymore on this issue.

Read that article. This in particular bothers me:

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, who has waged a national campaign for stricter gun laws, also discussed the shooting on Friday. In his weekly radio appearance, he called on President Obama and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, to more concretely address the issue of gun violence in their campaigns.

“You know, soothing words are nice,” Mr. Bloomberg said, “but maybe it’s time that the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it, because this is obviously a problem across the country.”

It bothers me how people are so quickly putting a political spin on the tragedy.

I think the issue is that a piece of popcorn entertainment, a movie, are trivialized in the wake of an incident like this. And trivial things can seem insensitive or disrespectful when stood next to a tragedy.

Saying "I'm not going to let these deaths make me afraid, I'm going to Batman" doesn't ring quite as noble as "I'm going back to school tomorrow, I'm not letting a gunman keep me away from a house of learning."

You've obviously never been to Israel. Those are people that deal with the constant threat of terrorist bombings daily. A club gets blown up, and Israeli's are back at clubs the very next day. They send a clear message that no one is going to stop them from living their lives. I admire that about them. I don't see how attempting to shame people that will still want to live their lives and see a movie is a noble thing.

You should relax though. Its cool if it doesn't bother you... but I don't get what you are trying to prove.

Terrible what happened, terrible how some posters are taking up a holier than thou-position. Fucking hell, have a little respect for people's personal choices.

I'm going to see this tomorrow, not "to let the terrorists not win!" or "shrug off the facts of the tragedy", but because I want to see TDKR. It will probably take a while for me and my family to fully process what happened, especially since there are children involved.
Yes, it was awful, yes it's a tragedy, but a mall-shooting hasn't stopped me from going to a mall, and I see no reason why I shouldn't enjoy almost 3 hours of Batman.

At the end of the day, it's the choice of the individuals whether or not they want to go see this specific film. Saying they're not allowed to, for whatever reason, is saying they're not allowed to enjoy themselves, basically to go sit in a corner, cry and maybe listen to a little Linkin Park.
Saying people have to go see it regardless of what happened, is equally bad, you're essentially saying that they have to stop whiney little bitches, while you have no clue or insight in their psyche or how this event touched them. For instance, I have a daughter, it was like a cold icy grip around my heart to hear a young girl was among the victims.

Both sides are retarded and they pop up everytime a tragedy happens and they sicken me to my stomach. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but both sides should ultimately respect the element of personal choice of everyone involved.

Just heard that between 12am-1am, neighbors reported incredibly loud techno coming from Holmes' room. Investigators think the goal was to get someone to kock on the door to trigger the booby traps.

:O

Hiding "Aurora" in the thread title of the spoiler thread is juvenile and inappropriate.

Wow. I saw the misplaced capitalization earlier but didn't catch on why. That is low class.

Edit. See I am terrible at spoting these things. It says Remember Aurora, not just Aurora.

I'm not sure how much "freedom" will be lost by that, but it is a gateway to more restrictive policies.

Increased police presence, more bag checks, I heard the local news, the chief of police gave a speech saying they have cops stationed at the theaters now. I don't even live in Colorado. WTF

The movie industry wants to step up security to catch pirate cams anyways. This incident will be a justification for more obtrusive security at public venues like movie theaters. More stop and frisks etc.

Someone edited the title of the DKR spoiler thread, certain letters are capitalized so that it spells "AURORA".

Looking at it again, I guess it's supposed to be some form of memorial because of the "REMEMBER" right before the title, kind of like that Simpsons episode.

Its still weird

Have they identified all of the guns purchased and or used?

Yup. All were purchased legally at large sporting goods stores locally.

To me it seems like he's a narcissist, possibly a sociopath. Most likely has antisocial or narcissistic personality disorder. The fact that he didn't kill himself and planned to survive the attack pretty much points towards he wants the fame and notoriety.
