Unlike the gun, it's illegal to show your penis in public.
Depends on the state.

How is someone supposed to know it's unloaded?
Terrible analogy and you know it.comparing law abiding gun owners who are hurting nobody with westboro is a cheap attempt to insult their character. So are the Westboro Church funeral protests. Just because something is within the letter of the law doesn't mean it is a good idea.
Good for him, exercising his legal right. Regardless if others don't agree he is 100 percent within his rights and nothing he did was illegal.
Name calling only makes others look dumb not this law abiding citizen.
Hey look at this tool obeying the law!! Lol right guys? Guys?
Wait are you not trolling..?Terrible analogy and you know it.comparing law abiding gun owners who are hurting nobody with westboro is a cheap attempt to insult their character.
The guy in the op notified police before that he was going out in public.he is military and serves this country. He deserves more respect than childish insults.
You guys can do better than that.
So this is now a thing we should get used to; people carrying large guns around to go shopping. Welp.
As if legal = smart.

JC Penney allows Ellen to be their spokesperson. Obviously, they need someone to remind them what real America stands for.well JC Penney is ground zero for government oppression after all.

Just wanted to point this out for the sake of discussion, but he had no "legal right" to carry there. His carrying of the firearm was only allowed because JC Penny permitted it. His Second Amendment rights meant fuck all in this context.

You do an awesome job playing the idiot nutter conservative.
Surprised JC Penny didn't ask him to leave.

From an international perspective, i find it hilarious that Americans are complaining about someone legally carrying an unloaded rifle in public.

They probably didn't want to piss him off, especially since they don't know if it's loaded or not. This guy is a fucking jackass, and most likely caused a panic for no good reason.
This.
If it was not unloaded you may not find out until it is too late.
It's pretty easy to tell if there is no magazine in a rifle.

Seriously, this is why it's wrong.
Do you want to be the manager who has to say "sir, get the fuck out"?
It's intimidation and he should be arrested for harassing the public.
Because there's legally nothing wrong with it? It's a very different perspective on the 'outside', i've read a lot of the commentary on pro/anti guns and personally i'm against it.

Is America turning into that situation in a movie where someone puts a gun on the table and then asks "Are we going to have a problem?".
Clearly, the right answer here is for managers to carry rifles on them at all times. Hell, the only way to truly be safe is this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-5V2ZbX4i4

the boss at my job has anger management issues. I would complain if he started carrying a rifle with him to work.

So : WHY did you NEED to carry that rifle with you when you went SHOPPING?

It's pretty easy for a paranoid person carrying a firearm to draw and put two in him before he stops to examine the rifle in detail. It's pretty easy to tell if there is no magazine in a rifle.
Sure, if you're relatively close and you know what you're looking for. The average person doesn't know fuck-all about weaponry and will be concentrating on the stock and the barrel of the weapon and freaking out.
