I don't see how changing the tone of a character's skin is any different to changing the look of a corridor or gun. People are just sensitive about skin colour and not the latter.

I would love for someone to make a joke mod based on this crap. Something where Alyx is now the common huge breasted 13 year old anime girl(tiny skirt with visible panties required), re-voiced by a high-pitched voice actress who can only speak Engrish(OOOOOHHHHH GORDON, ME SO HORNY FOR YOU!!!). The guys are all spike-y haired with gunswords and the striders are turned into mech-suits. Also all the combine are huge breasted aliens and Gordons' gun's now shoot white foam. Also TESSELLATE EVERYTHING! The walls, the ceilings, the stairs; everything should be made out of gravel.
And the worst part about it is that people will still like it. "Everything is better with big tits!" "WOW this is just like my Japanese animes!." "SO much better than the original!" "WOAH! Tessellation!"

Original HL2 textures and models are much better than most of the "enhancements" out there. Some games do need serious help in some areas, but the art team at Valve really know their shit.

As someone who just replayed hl2, the game did not look as good as my memories of it. The art direction is great, yes, but so much of the areas are low poly and low textured that instead of "desolate wasteland" things now look a little bit like "aged game with lazy designers"
the update to the orange box engine doesn't help things much either. For all the subtle changes it added, it totally isn't worth the sheer number of insane glitches that were added in at the same time.
I still love hl2 but... it could use a breath of fresh air in a few places.

Half Life 2 is awesome(remember 2004) and looks incredible even today, simply no need this shit..
People today think that graphics are just details, Half Life 2 are artistic superb and the world and her intercation with Gordon is something that even today is lost in the FPS...

I just see two character designs. One is designed after many months of carefully designing, the other is designed by someone who seems to think the ugly trashy sister of Adriana Lima is a better option. It's more sexist than racist. I think many people didn't even know what "race" Alyx was untill they encountered the father. Maybe a lot of people don't even think in terms of "race" like you.
He's just an art rapist (trying to do his best improving the image quality but failing harder than he imagined), not necessarily a racist (he might be.. who knows?).

edit: On a side note...damn I downloaded the wrong texture pack for new vegas because mine doesn't look that good

I don't mind it either way, I've already completed the game 8 times with no mods at all and will do the same for episode 3 most likely. It's just something to toy around with, that was my original point.
edit: Not messing around with any of that other shit though. Those textures are fugly compared to the original, and Barney's "new" face looks awful.

There is a mod that adds ADS and a bunch of guns and other stuff (SMOD I think). But frankly, it really adds nothing. The game really isn't built around the need to slow down and aim down the sight at things, and since it's a PC game there's not that much reason for the extra aiming sensitivity that ADS is basically a tool for. In fact, it kinda hurts since most guns have alt-fire options that need to be mapped to something else if you want to put ADS on RMB.
