Halo 2 VS Halo 3 GT Comparison :(

Wha? I don't think that would be necessary. If you were actually serious, though, I appreciate the offer. :P

I'm going to hit up some other rental stores while I'm out today and see what I can find.

Yeah, I won't be playing it, dude. Shipping would be less then a rental. Just don't scratch my shit up. PM me if you want a copy.

This footage looks about the same as the "alpha" shots they released last year. And I remember some talk about it all being placeholder material back then, and having none of the shader effects.

so.... is this really it?

Wow at people who get so worked up over opinions of videogames they block people....if something this small irritates you I would hate to see how you guys handle real issues that are serious in life.

Who's worked up? Life it just too short to waste even a few minutes of it reading your boneheaded, disingenuous posts.

(I only saw this one because someone quoted it.)

It looks significantly different/better than the old EGM shots. I don't know what footage you're looking at, but the Gametrailers comparison video is terrible.

After seeing the Beta (and playing it a little)..
The game does look good and a lot better than the GT movie...
But! Is (like Bungie said)..all subtle!

There's not a big/gigantic difference between Halo 2 as many were expecting (or many are eve nsaying on this thread)..and even my Halo fan friend who is the one tha thas the Beta...agrees with that.

Probably because many were expecting the game to look like the trailer with a lot of high res textures and all the bumpmapping shaders possible..hehehehe (or look more like an 'open' Gears of War)..

Still the game looks fine (and better than 2), the lightning and special effects are really well done..
That said, I'm not expecting the single player to look that different (who knows)..but in Halo 2 (visually) the main difference between the single and multi player modes were some more high-res textures and some extra bump-mapping in some areas..

But who knows, only..time or well, September 25th will tell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this thread has gone from Halo 3 looking marginally better than Halo 2, to Halo 3 looking worse than Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, GRAW, GRAW2, Call of Duty 3, Perfect Dark: Zero, Lost Planet, Prey pretty much every Xbox 360 FPS game out there.

This is amazing :lol

Now all we need is someone posting some screenies from that bullshit Halo 3 E3 2006 trailer and we're done for good :lol

Sucks to be a genuine Halo fan in this thread.

No, it most certainly does not. I have those shots right here (do you want me to host them for you?). There are minor improvements, but by and large, it looks the same (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

From the guy who hasn't even seen it for himself yet? : \

I'm telling you: the lighting, textures and small details make the Beta look noticeably better than the old pics from EGM.

I guess people want really dark games that have objects shine like they are made of plastic. :lol

There's a design philosophy on display in these Halo 3 screens that has not been mentioned. In a word: Clarity.

Valhalla is absolutely coated in foliage of many different kinds, just like many of the pics from other games people (speevy) have posted. That foliage is kept very short and is spaced such that it never, ever obscures weapons, grenades or equipment placed or dropped on the ground. Bungie could have built tall, dense grass but that would lead to frustrating hunting around for stuff - where that sniper rifle, where did he drop it?!!? Oblivion, anyone?

That philosopy of "clarity" extends to the lighting, to the way the spartan models are lit and to the "clean" look of many areas. It's not cluttered on purpose.

Two other notes. Frankie has said in past Updates that in the final game, the foliage decorators will be both interactive - they move aside as you go through it - and destructable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in those PDZ shots, the foliage is something you just clip through, and it never responds to gameplay? It's an important distinction that won't come out in screen shots.

Campaign has none of the "clarity" requirements the MP arenas have because they are about immersion, not making a level combat arena. We'll be seeing fog, darkness, rubble etc. Also, longer grass and denser foliage, which we've seen in the wireframes Bungie has posted.

Thank you thak you. "Clarity" is exactly why I find this to be an enjoyable experience. Graphics and gimmick effects don't cloud the gameplay arena and prevent me from accomplishing goals.

I was noting that the original screenshots look very much the same as the screenshots floating around from the current beta.

I didn't even see this post among the PDZ nonsense. Spot on analysis.

Again, maybe it's my TV or something, but it definately doesn't look like that on my TV. Aliasing all over the place, and I can only describe the entire screen as, "muddy".

Maybe someone has some calibration tips?

What resolution is your tv and what cables are you using?

Aliasing? Yes there is some.
Muddy? Sorry I just don't see that, the game looks very clean.

Those screens make the Spartan model textures look muddy when they are in fact scuffed when you get up close.

Yes I would love some settings to try on my Samsung 720p DLP using an Elite with HDMI.

Is there a sharpness setting on your TV? Try playing with that, I read something the other day about most sets being defaulted to high sharpness.

Game looks decent enough to me. I don't expect the online side to be a graphical tour de force anyway. Not with open maps and 16 players. Better graphics could lead to more laggy situation trying to sync all the systems together.

Now if the single player looks the same, I won't be too happy. I don't expect this to be thte case.

I'm more than happy with the improved control scheme. Game controls like butta now.

Looks very good, there's really no contest vs. Halo 2 even at this beta stage. Quite a bit sharper, with much better lighting.

Wait, did some people think that CG "finish the fight" teaser was what the game was going to look like? :lol
on the video that they released on marketplace they said it WILL look like that

those liars

Were talking about the E3 one yeah. Why people thought it would look like that is beyond me.
It probably will look like that in single player mode. The models used in multiplayer have always looked a tad ugly next to the single player models, afterall.
