Halo 5 coming out in November?

Don't do this MS. Xbox One sales will already be big due to Call of Duty and other multiplats alone. Put Halo 5 in September to make the whole September to December period high for console sales.

What makes you think the game will be ready in September? Maybe the earliest they can ship is November?

The early beta makes me assume that a September release is possible. I don't know for sure though obviously.

Overall, they should release it whenever it's ready but if they have a choice then I feel releasing it in September would be much better than competing with many games in November; I said in another thread that Halo 5 is "make or break" due to Halo 4 and MCC. Halo 5 will set the tone for Halo this gen (and probably as a whole from here on out). If it's good then positive buzz will spread about the game more during a month without many big releases. Just my opinion.

Oh I don't know if they outsold them combined, but individually, whether Black Ops 1 or 2, to my knowledge sold more than any of the Modern Warfare games. (1vs1 I mean)
Oh. In that case I think Black Ops 1 would be that. Thing is a juggernaut.

Are we sure 343i fixed Halo MCC themselves or just got their partners to keep working it?

Supposedly Ruffian are doing ODST (I haven't seen any evidence of this myself but other have people said it...) and a new partner emerged in Splash Damage who worked on the March content update

Either way, after MCC, they'll release it when it's ready.

Halo CE, 2, and 4 have released in November.

3 and Reach (and ODST) have released in September.

October is an odd month to launch Halo in as sales will be better in November, and September is the end month of MS quarter one for their fiscal year.

Black Ops 1+2 sold better than MW1+2+3.

I can't even comprehend that.

W@W is part of the Black Ops arc too.

W@W about the same as COD4
Blops sold more than MW2
Blops II (highest selling game in the franchise) sold more than MW3

September seems like a better fit, but I'm guessing MS are hoping to release Quantum Break in that month. I wonder where Tomb Raider will fit in.

I could see Halo in September, Quantum Break & Forza 6 in October, and Tomb Raider in November. Gives them a solid release schedule with big games dropping every month.

Halo also needs its own spotlight after mixed reactions to Halo 4 and MCC. "Halo is back!"-buzz couldn't go around in November as much as it would in September (due to many big games coming out during the former month).

If you want a finished game than they can't launch and damage the brand more.

I wasn't going to buy it anyway until at least a week later. Gotta make sure their aren't any unnecessary Matchmaking problems or boss fight QTE's

If they were smart they'd steer clear of November. Halo's big but going up against both Call of Duty and Battlefront is probably not the best idea.

yeah, i remember halo 4 released a week before black ops 2 and i spent the majority of the time playing black ops 2

always shoot for September/October for Halo

Battlefront is coming at the same time as the huge marketing blitz for the new Star Wars movie. It is going to be absolutely massive.

Absolutely. Battlefront could end up being a defining game of the generation. Coming out at the right time and will be the first Star Wars game in a while. Assuming it's actually a good game, it'll dominate.

They've also said it's next-gen/PC only I believe.

Whoa people really like playing rushed, unfinished games these days. I guess there is something exciting about buying a game and anticipating patch after patch for that one that will finally make the game playable.

Why do people keep saying September and October are optimal? You release your game before COD and Battlefront and you lose your playerbase when those games release. They won't be coming back after they hop to the next game.

Yeah... That's exactly the point.

Don't remember what happened with Halo 4 (a November game)?

So you've played Halo 5 huh?

September release - At least 1 full month of a huge player base before the great CoD exodus.

November release - CoD exodus either already happened or will happen in a week.

Why should Halo steer clear but not COD or Battlefront? on the Xbox platform it will be the bigger game. Marketing will be through the roof and it sounds like it already started.

Exclusive vs. multiple multiplats. COD is already bigger than Halo.

People who are waiting for Halo and want to play Halo are not going to not buy Halo because of the annual franchise being release. And no one has any idea about Battlefront, so I don't know.

Im not sure Halo is bigger than Star Wars, though.

In gaming? It sure is.

It will definitely sell well. I have no doubts about that. It's just that the multiplayer userbase will be greatly split because it won't be the only new game during the time. It will be competing with other games for users as well as just mainstream attention. September would definitely be less crowded.

Overall, they shouldn't rush the game but I think that Halo 5 needs to make a big (positive) impact after the dissapointment of Halo 4 and MCC. It's harder to do that during a month that's packed for games (e.g.: November). I'm saying this as someone who thinks that Halo 5 will (again) be "make or break" for the series and wants to see the series get closer to the positive buzz/impact it had during the Halo 2/3 days (maybe in part due to nostalgia).

I know that will never happen again (too many shooters coming out these days) but it would be closer to that via releasing before November in comparison to releasing in November in my opinion.

Ship it when it's done. Just don't feel like you have to rush to get it done. I'm sure they want the Black Friday sales but games still sell just as well releasing in early December if needed. It's not like everyone stops shopping after Black Friday.

Going up against CoD and Assassin's Creed is never good for sales, but Battlefront? That series hasn't released a game in 10 years and while I'm definitely hyped for it, Halo is definitely bigger.

Just as a fun aside, look at the NPD numbers from 2005. Three Star Wars games in the top 10!

You underestimate the Star Wars hype train. Battlefront will absolutely sell more than and be a bigger event than Halo 5

But didn't the player base drop like a rock once the COD game released?

The player dropped because the online was pure garbage not due to COD.

It was a cheap poor imitation of COD. Why play that? When the real thing is out in a week.

I don't get this they doomed in if they release in November talk. Halo will sell. The problem it has is if the online will be solid. It's nothing to do with release dates. They could release it in April and everyone will go back to something else if the online sucks.

GTA, Far Cry, Dragon Age, AC Unity and COD all released last November. And they all sold well.

Also can't believe the amount of people hyping up Battlefront in this thread. I wouldn't trust Dice at all after their last disastrous launch. Id be surprised if that's even working on day one.
