Halo 5 coming out in November?

Don't do this MS. Xbox One sales will already be big due to Call of Duty and other multiplats alone. Put Halo 5 in September to make the whole September to December period high for console sales.

Halo also needs its own spotlight after mixed reactions to Halo 4 and MCC. "Halo is back!"-buzz couldn't go around in November as much as it would in September (due to many big games coming out during the former month).

This post makes business sense

It will definitely sell well. I have no doubts about that. It's just that the multiplayer userbase will be greatly split because it won't be the only new game during the time. It will be competing with other games for users as well as just mainstream attention. September would definitely be less crowded.

Overall, they shouldn't rush the game but I think that Halo 5 needs to make a big (positive) impact after the dissapointment of Halo 4 and MCC. It's harder to do that during a month that's packed for games (e.g.: November). I'm saying this as someone who thinks that Halo 5 will (again) be "make or break" for the series and wants to see the series get closer to the positive buzz/impact it had during the Halo 2/3 days (maybe in part due to nostalgia).

I know that will never happen again (too many shooters coming out these days) but it would be closer to that via releasing before November in comparison to releasing in November in my opinion.

September will have MGS and Fifa. Two of the games that are going to be best selling games of the year. And you got Mad Max and potentially a few other games too.

Whenever it releases during that period it will come up against games that sell well.

I would think September would be a better time to release the chief. Got the nfl starting, can plaster commercials all over. Whenever it does get released I'll be there. Any info on the mystery box collectors edition yet?

If they were smart they'd steer clear of November. Halo's big but going up against both Call of Duty and Battlefront is probably not the best idea.

I'm tired of CoD to be honest. I'm getting Halo 5, but I'm not sure about Battlefront. I could never get into Battlefront 1 and 2 on Xbox. Playing with blasters and randomly swishing around lightsabers weren't really that fun to be honest.

Im not sure Halo is bigger than Star Wars, though.

Star Wars Battlefront series never sold as much as Halo (1-4) did. Ever.

September would've been a much smarter move =/

Oh I don't know if they outsold them combined, but individually, whether Black Ops 1 or 2, to my knowledge sold more than any of the Modern Warfare games. (1vs1 I mean)

I'm sure MW3 outsold BO2 if I remember right but not by much.

But if I remember right BO1 is the best selling CoD of them all?

EDIT: seems I'm wrong.

You can look at the sales figures, it outsold Black Ops 1 and MW3, and Ghosts/AW haven't overtaken it. Last number was something crazy like 25 million sold.

Got a link for these figures? I'm curious.

Battlefront II was the second most played game online since it was released on Xbox Live. Nearly tied Halo 2. It isn't smart for them to try and compete with both Battlefront and COD.

So I just placed an order for the collectors edition and got an email saying delivery date is January 4th. That better not be right.

Probably more to do with giving it the proper polish it needs rather than anything else.

I agree.
September would be awesome, but I fear that they would be rushin it out if that early.

I don't think they need to worry about Cod as it is obviously not quite as big of a deal as it was 3 years ago when Halo 4 came out....Battlefront is another deal, but I wonder if they will end up moving their release date to coincide more with when the movie comes out....

Also, if their MP is any good, people will stay no matter what. I think a lot of people left Halo 4 early because there just wasn't enough there to keep their audience.

......... I know that people want to get back to the Halo 2 days, but we need to face it that that is not going to happen....mainly because back when Halo 2 launched, it was the only real competent online multiplayer game out there, and now days there are a ton of games with competent/good multiplayer.

And new Ass Creed!

Singe Player games (or other MP games with low population) are not a threat to Halo. The game will sell enough units. Every Halo beat it's own records with the next Halo game. Halo 5 could be in a tough spot due to the Xbox One's userbase, but that's about it in terms of sales.

It all depends if they can maintain the MP population. If it stays healthy, that would help a lot.

For me, Halo 5 felt like it's trying to be more appealing to the masses like COD, but COD still does it better so releasing near that will be a very bad mood.

Folks, I'm sure Microsoft is looking at the release timeframe as close as we are, and I bet they have a good number of people researching when the best date would be, using trends and stats. If they end up going November there's likely a well-thought out reason for it.

It always makes me laugh when people seem to forget MS (and Sony) is a multi-billion dollar company that hires people (experts) for these very reasons. They've likely thought about this far more than we have.

Sept or November, who cares. The game will sell like gangbusters at either date and if it can't hold onto a player base post cod like halo 4, then it doesn't matter if it launches earlier it will still be seen as a disappointment

this, success of halo games should be measured with playerbase after like half a year.

Hasn't most of the main Halo games come out in September?
This is forever burned into my brain

zzzzzzzzz

Just because they're worth millions doesn't mean they make smart decisions.

Worked out well for Xbox One or numerous games sent out to die. They aren't infallible.

If they are ready for September, go for it. More time for the community not getting distracted and word of mouth praise going into the holiday season. Star Wars hype will be unbelievable and COD even though it's weakening, is still a force and all the other big games. In the end the game will stand or fall but cutting it off at the knees from the gate doesn't need to happen.

November will more than likely have more (big) games/shooters though; More games releasing that are part of the same "AAA scope" as Halo 5.

______________

How you can possibly assume release date after playing a damn beta?

Because the beta came out so early -- 8-10 months before the game will more than likely launch + we know that the game is coming out this year. Wouldn't release in December since that month's after Black Friday.

Yet all three (Nintendo included) companies have made decisions that many people here knew were problems very early.

Definitely not going to "die" but releasing in November means it gets overshadowed by the bigger FPS series and the population will likely take a big hit, especially since 343 is Doing it (so it's chances weren't great in the first place).

Now, I don't see dying a quick death like TF but I don't see it having the draw or longevity of Halo 3.

Titanfall had a quick death? Amazing how a year after launch you can get into full matches in seconds. I guess lots of people play dead games.

The population of TF declined hard and fast. Obviously you can still find matches (mostly without issue) but the pop is pretty low.

What would be "alive" in terms of population to you?

I don't know about now(and AW removed the player counter so it's impossible to compare anyways), but around 6 months ago when the titanfall player counter first got added people compared it to the other FPS on the XB1 and Ghosts had 16k, BF4 18k and Titanfall 10k, rough numbers.

I know it's lower now but I wouldn't say it died off fast, those 10k on TF were still pretty decent compared to the competition considering it was a new IP and all, lower than I expected yeah, but I wouldn't say they were terrible.

343 should release another beta in july or august, not so much to serve as a test, but to get the casuals playing the game during the slow summer.
release in september a few weeks after the beta ends.

lol

Titanfall did really good. And I find matches within same time as AW and sometimes even faster.

All the concern people saying they are sending Halo to die. Nov actually makes more sense to me if you want to expand your user base. COD, Assassins and Battlefront you can play on PS4 as well. But the market push from Microsoft is going to be on whole new level AGAIN. This is the console where you can play all of those blockbuster and ALSO Halo 5.

Don't release it in November It will be buried in the holiday rush.

Battlefront (this game should not be underestimated), COD and New Assassins Creed will also release in November.

Release it before in October or 2nd week of December but no in November,,,

Also the people saying Battlefront is not bigger then Halo then using game sales as proof? please understand that Battlefront might not be bigger but Star Wars is definitely bigger and a new movie will release in December. EA will literally promote the shit out of this game (Titanfall Style).

I think a November release could work as long as it was spaced out from CoD. I would prefer a September release personally.

Well duh, SWBF2 was the last Battlefront game while there was Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 after SWBF2 came out. It is like saying water is wet, doesn't mean a damn thing.

Not really. It just means Halo is bigger in video games industry than Star Wars at the moment.

Halo 5 being released in November shouldn't be a problem for 343 & MS. I say bring it.

Sent to die...

Care to explain?

They should release it when it's ready. They can't afford to ship another game with severe issues. Their number one priority should be making sure they release a polished game that works on launch day, whether that's September, December, or anywhere between that time period.

Another thing aswell is that if Halo 5 turns out to be another Halo 4 and people don't like it, there's gonna be a lot of bad word of mouth around it, so if they released it in September and people start getting new consoles for christmas in November/December, they might just go PS4 because of the bad word of mouth around H5 as they will think they're not missing out on much. Whereas if they release it in November, there won't really be enough time for the bad word of mouth to spread.

Of course Idk if they would actually think about it that way and if they did that kinda says a lot about how much faith they have in Halo 5, but it is something to consider I suppose.

Personally I think September would be a better month over competing with CoD. Give Halo some room to breathe.
