Halo: MCC Halo 4 in 1080p/60FPS - IGN First

No joke man, it looks fantastic.

and just so everyone knows because I've seen it a few times, the retail game will be a locked 60fps

I want to believe.... but Halo can throw a lot of stuff on screen and especially if you go to town in forge mode and 4 player split screen. I'm not expecting it to hold a locked 60 under all circumstances but I will be very happy if it does.

Has it been confirmed whether the games will still run at 60fps when in 2/3/4 player local splitscreen?

I honestly never got to Halo 4; too many other games. But a Remaster is just the thing to get me interested in it.

What's the consensus on Halo 4 as a game?
* Good, but not great?
* More of the same?
* A letdown?
* A strong showing for 343 at its first Halo go-round?

Personal opinions on it?

Thanks.

I think most people felt that the campaign was really solid, but the MP was a big letdown.

(Or thats how I felt but I only played Halo 1 and then Halo 4 so IDK)

Some fun to be had but overall disappointing. The campaign story doesn't make a lot of sense and they hide a lot of useful info in terminals. The campaign is great the first few levels but goes downhill as you fight more and more of the new enemies and lose the sense of wonder.

Multiplayer is ok, but adds too much to try and retain the non-Halo crowd.

Worth a playthrough, but you'll likely be playing Halo 1/2/3 for MP.

Looks great. Can't wait to jump back in.

This video just reminded me how much I dislike how the design and look has evolved. The metal looks too industrial, if that makes sense, and everything seems more big and clunky. And I hate the sound of the guns in 4.

But give me that Halo 1-3. I'm hungry for it.

I really enjoyed Halo 4. I would go with a "Good, but not great" - but certainly good enough that the Halo franchised remained my favorite Multiplayer FPS. I enjoyed some of the changes they made, and others not as much (randomized weapon placement). Campaign was only decent but did look quite pretty.

Both bullet point A and bullet point D.

I loved Halo 4's story (fuck anyone that tries to convince me it wasn't fantastic), and the multiplayer, while a lot more fast-paced than previous Halo games, was something that I thought was mildly fun.

Depends on who you talk to. I tend to lean toward the fourth one.

Yeah most people describe it as a good game, but not a great halo game. I actually really liked the campaign, but the multiplayer part was aggravating with all the changes.

this

i enjoyed it, but it was not Halo quality in some aspects

Wow... the game looks great... but watching it reminded me how "meh" Halo 4 was... lacks the magic that Halo 1-3 had... either way... this collection sets a precedent with Halo 5...

because Halo 4 looks pretty damn good... Halo 5 has to top that.

Great campaign, multi isnt as good as other HAlo's

A strong showing for 343 at its first Halo go-round

Depends on how you look at it. For 343i's first foray in to the industry proper? No one can fault them for the game they made, really. Not as a collective, anyway.

Individually the teams that worked on the game had so much experience that many of the experiences (or lack thereof) that made it to launch and persist are embarrassing. Just the myriad of poor design decisions and incomplete features and/or nonfeatures boggles my mind to this day.

To see how the game was recieved from the public you should hit up this fucking amazing thread that FyreWulff made.

I'm legit excited to play Halo 4 multiplayer again, but really only in customs so we can turn off the armor abilities, limit the load outs, pick the good maps, etc. Someone needs to remake Simplex asap, lol.

a disappointment as a halo game...After destiny...incredible!

Its a lot of going somewhere and pressing a button but still better encounters and story than that turd

To me, it outdoes all of the other campaigns in a few areas: atmosphere, production value, putting you IN the chief's helmet, gunplay, mission variety pacing, and storytelling/character development. However, the story itself is probably the most convoluted of the series because it goes into the weird space magic-y territory with the Didact (who I thought was a terrible character), the prometheans are a mixed bag as a far as "fun to fight" goes, it lacks the epic scale of things like the Halo 3 scarab battles or the Halo 2 earth levels, and while the ending itself is extremely poignant and well done, the final battle is very anti-climactic.

Still, in my eyes, better than any other console FPS campaign by a very wide margin, but there were extremely special aspects to Halo CE, 2, and 3 that 4 never quite got -- even with all of the things it did better. (Multiplayer is another story and the gap between the rest of the series and 4 is much bigger to me)

This is a quote from that thread TC posted

* Halo 4 lasted a whole two entire months in the Top 3 of the Xbox Live activity chart. Halo 3 didn't fall out of the Top 3 until Halo Reach released - 3 years after it's release. Halo Reach didn't fall out of the Top 3 until 343's title update for the game after they took over the game, 12 months after release

Halo is my favorite game series. Period. Nothing comes close. I played REACH for 2 years after launch and hated that game. I played Halo 4 for 1 month

Halo 4 had a pretty good campaign but below standards MP. They seem to understand what Halo is now, Halo 5 already looks miles better than 4.

Having never played Halo 4, that looks absolutely gorgeous.

I think both this and The Last of Us are really leading the charge for the importance of 1080p and 60fps. They're both evidence that even last gen (albeit late gen) games can look great, but can become fucking beautiful with a bit of a clean up and running at 1080/60.

If Halo 5 only looks marginally better than that but keeps a locked 60 I'd be happy.

Halo 4 looks incredible at 1080p 60 fps. I still can't shake the feeling that halo looks different at 60 fps. This isn't bad at all in fact its fantastic.

4 is the Shadowfall of the Halo games.
if any of the Killzones were actually good outside of 2 and Mercenary

Great, but not as amazing as 1-3. Better than Reach though.

I thought it was a pretty good start for 343, they nailed the basic gameplay. Just need to sort out some of those design decisions.

Check out any HaloGAF thread between May 2012 and now. The general analysis is definitely not positive, lol. Many of us seem to agree that the core gameplay of Halo 4 is really good -- the weapons and movement are the best they've been since Halo 2. But everything else is mediocre or straight up terrible. The big complaints about multiplayer tend to be:

  • Bad maps
  • Armor abilities
  • Perks
  • Killstreaks
  • Load outs, including weapons that can one-shot opponents and disable vehicles
  • Sprint
  • Instant Spawns
  • Sprint and Instant spawns are bad in and of themselves, but combined means that bad team mates will rush back into danger and get themselves killed repeatedly over and over and rates faster than ever before.
  • Bizarre and backwards changes to gametypes like CTF
  • The removal of gametypes, like Assault
  • A terrible UI
  • And much more

Looks incredible at 1080p60, definitely has a current-gen look (or next-gen for those of you still calling it that) to it. Instills me with confidence for Halo 5.

That looks next Gen to me. 343 really did a nice job they just needed more horsepower to make Halo 4 shine. I'm talking about graphics obviously.

Halo 4 is the worst Halo.

Even if you hated halo 4 and gave up on it at launch, it provided one great thing.

Personally i really liked halo 4. It had flaws etc etc but i really liked it.

And it had ricochet.

Im so pumped they are putting that game type into h2 anniversary multiplayer. Anyone who hasnt tried this game type is in for a treat. Such a fun gametype IMO
