although it is not a legal holiday, today marks the 50th anniversary of the Maple Leaf flag / l'Unifolié replacing the Canadian Red Ensign

The Maple Leaf represents unity.
Colours: In 1921, King George V proclaimed the official colours of Canada as red, from the Saint George's Cross, and white, from the French royal emblem since King Charles VII.

2,136 contained maple leaves,
408 contained Union Jacks,
389 contained beavers, and
359 contained Fleurs-de-lys.
