It´s a console, jeezus. Strange that only the PS5 needs to undergo this rigorous testing. When the XSX console was tested by that bald testicle and others, it did not matter.

Why not? They have already basically ruined these systems in one way or another by testing them anyway, might as well go full-tilt and get a deep probing analysis going on. I'm really saying, just make the unit a sacrifice by that point. Give it a really good, deep test, don't worry about if it works after the test is done.

b) you are tempering with the factory set cooling, consoles are not desktop PC

They tore off the cured compound and then said it was not a cured compound, which anyone else who did a teardown knows to be false, and the sony lead engineer is contradicting them in an interview.

My position is that it invalidates his results. The problem is that a cured compound sticks hard to both sides and so it's designed to work without any pressure applied.

If it's torn off and replaced loose (the PS5 assembly offers no reliable pressure on these points), it's an inferior contact and it's not simple to know how it would affect the results.

I have to be honest that the updated test result is pleasantly surprising. 10c difference on the back plate is very "iffy", but I can go with the new updated result of 2-3c difference, if it's measured same spot as GN did like the new updated info says - under the mounting plate.

Less and cheaper material, better thermal performance. I remember OG heat sink, they were touting that they optimized it so that it matches vapor chamber. (Clearly targeting the Xbox, I guess)
For the look of it, I expected that it won't be as good as the OG one, but I guess you can't really judge the cooler by its size anymore that Sony has figured something out. Now I feel like why couldn't they do that to my original PS5. It's not like the APU or other chip compoments are different.

It's a big win for Sony engineers that they managed it. Of course, I'm more interested in what GN comes up with his test, whether this is indeed true, and especially how they managed to lower the temp with lesser, cheaper material - not only the APU but also the VRAM as well with same fan pushing same amount of air. Air flow may be in fact a play here, but it doesn't really explain the VRAM part much - if they indeed kept the backplate as steel, not copper or aluminum which have better heat transfer than steel. Better thermal putty, or combinations of all above?

Of course it is against TOS and I don't think (and I hope too) that nobody here participated in the doxxing of Austin because that is shitty and I hope everyone here agrees.
But we are talking about assuming the words that have been said.Because that was an accusation and no matter the side that is a shitty attitude.To say that some here no matter for what console they root for have participated in doxxing of anybody without proof (of course if you can prove it that would be different).
And I know you guys will do the right thing to either prove that I and some misremembered and/or are bullshitting or if DarkMage619 is.

Are you sure about that? RDNA boost clocks are kind of dependent on thermals and will adjust on the fly in duration depending on load AND thermals.

I believe what we're seeing in power difference is the equivalent of longer/steady boost clocks due to lower thermals. Same thing happens on RDNA 2 where undervolting it results in lower thermals and results in better performances with longer boost clocks. I can't imagine Sony playing with AMD's boost clock logic on that fine detail, especially since Cerny basically embraced boost clocks.

Yes, they've adopted a different strategy where the clocks aren't variable based on the temps.

Whether we're talking about mobile phones, tablets, or even PC CPUs and GPUs, boost clocks have historically led to variable performance from one example to the next - something that just can't happen on a console. Your PS5 can't run slower or faster than your neighbour's. The developmental challenges alone would be onerous to say the least.

"We don't use the actual temperature of the die, as that would cause two types of variance between PS5s," explains Mark Cerny. "One is variance caused by differences in ambient temperature; the console could be in a hotter or cooler location in the room. The other is variance caused by the individual custom chip in the console, some chips run hotter and some chips run cooler. So instead of using the temperature of the die, we use an algorithm in which the frequency depends on CPU and GPU activity information. That keeps behaviour between PS5s consistent."

Inside the processor is a power control unit, constantly measuring the activity of the CPU, the GPU and the memory interface, assessing the nature of the tasks they are undertaking. Rather than judging power draw based on the nature of your specific PS5 processor, a more general 'model SoC' is used instead. Think of it as a simulation of how the processor is likely to behave, and that same simulation is used at the heart of the power monitor within every PlayStation 5, ensuring consistency in every unit.

I wasn't comfortable with where the discussion was heading. Mods here are pretty transparent which is why I called them in to stop the discussion before it got ugly. I didn't think it was positive for this thread when we should be talking about the topic.
