Harms Way is one of two Doritos XBLA games finalists made after the "pitch your dream game idea" competition (the other being Avatar Crash Course -no screens from this one yet I think-).

It's a driving/shooting hybrid developed by Bongfish that will be released in the first weeks of December, for free.

The competition (people will vote for the game they'll like the most) :
We started with thousands of game idea submissions. Narrowed it down to 8, and now 2 remain.

"I wanted this to be Burnout meets Call of Duty"

Just say Twisted Metal you asshole :lol

Not as many ads in it as I'd expect, though.

Seems like the guns are roadside turrets, and not actually mounted to the vehicles, so Twisted Metal doesn't really seem apt.

Actually the guns are turrets placed along the roadside of the race tracks.
You play mostly Co-Op either as shooter or driver.
The Shooter cycles between turrets (if they are not blocked by another shooter) and supports his driver, blast the competition or bring downs rockslides, opens shortcuts etc.

A fast-paced and hectic multiplayer-centric game for up to 8 players. Splitscreen up to 4 players etc.

Will be out for free worldwide in the first weeks of december.

Can't complain about a free game.

Did Dash get taken down? Doesn't seem to be on Live anymore.

That game was an easy 200 points! I got them all in one 30 minute playthrough.

Wonder if this will be the same deal?

I don't know if your studio has something to win in the competition but good luck. It's an interesting effort and way to produce games.

as the game will be free, there won't be any royalties - but exposure will be good. *fingers crossed*

Working with MGS & Justin Carpenter ( Unlock Xbox finalist) been a worthwhile experience. Big credits to Justin himself & Bill W - the title's producer.

Hey, Bongfish's first non-snowboarding game (afaik)! A new era approaches.

hey, as much as we love the snowboarding genre, it was about time spreading the word about capabilities of our studio & tech outside of this one singular genre. It was a first in vehicle physics & shooting for us, which had been great fun.

It looks cool, that much is certain. And you guys certainly put a lot of energy into the snowboarding genre. Also, the tech was always pretty cool, I don't think anyone would dispute that. Good to see it spread to other genres.

If this turns out anything like Yaris, then it will cause me to put down the controller and re-think what I'm doing with my life.

Oh my god, I couldn't even play Yaris for more than 5 minutes. Say what you want about the Dorito dash game, at least I played it long enough to beat it.

Hey, hex0l, just curious as to the history behind the name "Bongfish"? And props on you putting a Kaskade song in Stoked.

Kids today are probably too young to remember Twisted Metal. They're all about the CoDs!

Very, very few games have mixed racing and shooting elements satisfactorily so if the combination works well in this title it could set a new benchmark for the genre. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

If they release this game before they decide on the winner. Then what does the winner get? I thought the whole point of winning was actually getting the game made.

from what I read, I think the two finalists get their games made and the one with the most votes on the website wins $50 000 or something like that.

Looks way better than expected and seems fun too.

By the way, here's a video of the other finalist: Crash Course. Seems like Trials HD, but with your avatar. Looking good too. (first part of the video is pretty straight-forward for the second part she seems to fail on purpose, to see the different results)

So far, the results has been better than the previous (Destruction) one.

I'm not getting any Trials HD vibes from that video at all. Crash Course looks more like a slightly less jankier version of Wipeout for the Wii.

Looks really good. I'm hyped to play it. Congratulations.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. It was a fun and great experience working on a concept originating from the community. Now we are eager seeing how online-play will be adapted, as it's core it's a fast-paced MP action game.

I know is no Trials HD, but is the closest to describe it as far as XBLA goes, in the most basic way (to not derail the thread more). Is 2D, the point is go from point A to B with as less mistakes as possible, in the shortest amount of time and there are checkpoints. :p

It is closer to Wipeout as the basis, since the creator said that her inspiration were those shows, contests of avoiding obstacles.

By the way, are there avatar awards?
I know it's free, but since most XBLA games are doing it and it's a nice touch too. :p

Bongfish wasn't closed? So glad those rumors aren't true. I really need to pick up a copy of StokEd Big Air Edition.

Hope EA gets Bongfish for a new SSX.

Alive & kicking, still married to the game.
Keep me posted if you still managed to find a copy of Big Air, as we never quite understood what happened with distribution.

SSX is an awesome franchise, who wouldn't love working on it. Guess someone already is doing...

Both this and that crash course are free? Fucking awesome. That Harms way looks like somethin I would buy and crash course looks like somethin I'd grab for a fiver. Both look fun. Liking the physics on that crash course and hopefully the feel of the driving is cool on Harms Way which from the small gameplay vid looks like it does.
