some people aren't all the way throught the book yet. it just came out smartass.

yeah i realize that but don't read 9 pages of a harry potter thread after the book comes out if you don't want to be spoiled - that's just common sense.

It's not like they are standing in line at BN with some guy in a minivan driving by

believe me... i personally didn't. i got the book and read it through first. but your question is not really the point. the asshole above puposefully trying to spoil it for everyone, despite seeing everyone using spoiler tags is a dickhead. i hope the mods ban him at least.

Only an assmoron would come into this thread and not expect the possibility of getting spoiled like that.
so that makes it ok to do then? what kind of dumb ass rationalization is this?

anyways... that is besides the point. the dick above knowingly and purposefully came in to spoil it for no reason other than his own joy. and from the looks of it... he got a few people. whether it was a smart move on their part or not is besides the point.

All I'm saying is that if you're trying to avoid HP spoilers you shouldn't be coming to a thread like this, it's just not smart thinking. And it's not just about the assholes, someone could mess up with the spoiler tags and accidentally spoil shit(I've seen it happen oh too many times on this forum...).

Hell, you shouldn't be on the internet at all. :P

People should know better. I remember back when Matrix Revolutions came out a few retards would post threads with spoilers in the headline, and the dumbfuck mods would just lock them, instead of deleting them. Oh well. :P

yes you of course have a point. but so do i... that being...

BAN HIM! :D

Absolutely agree. ANd give me his address so I can break his fucking kneecaps. I'm on chapter 10 now and loving it.

Anyone notice how, Ginny said voldemorts name after Harry dumped her? and not He Who Must Not Be Named!!!!!
Wonder what this means for the next book!!
I think Dumbledores Army will be back in full force next book, as it mentioned how Luna and Neville responded, and even Ron put up a fight this time round

Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Ginny and Luna I believe will band together

Maybe so. But only an asshat would deliberately set out to spoil the thread like that.

Just finished the book - as an aside, my local Japanese bookstore had 15 copies (3 US, 12 UK) on launch day. Unstoppable juggernaut, indeed. SUPER SPOILER DISCUSSION:

I enjoyed the book, but am a little disappointed with The Spirits Within style lousy plotting of Finding Horcruxes that appears to be the skeleton of the next book. Though admittedly at the same time I am looking forward to getting out of Hogwarts for a bit.

I think the most important conclusion is that I am 250% sure that Snape is actually on the side of good. It's really, really important to note that in Chapter Two he agrees to the Unbreakable Vow WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT IT IS. He never says anything related to the content of the vow, he just says vagaries to get Narcissa to reveal to him that it's something Voldemort wants her son to do... Even then, he agrees to it without knowing the content of the vow.

People have already brought up the good points about how Snape and Dumbledore probably have an agreement that, should Dumbledore ever need killing, Snape has to be the one to do it; also Snape's slight hesitation before doing so. Given the fatal nature of breaking an Unbreakable Vow, it's possible that they came to this agreement AFTER the events in chapter 2 (presumably, Snape did learn what exactly he had to do at some point after making the vow). Also, at the end, when Harry is in pain, his pain stops when Snape shouts "No!" Snape's in really, really deep as a double agent, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's on the side of good. Mostly because Rowling has tried so hard to "show" us he's not this book ... while always leaving that backdoor conspiculously open.

There was a section in the middle of the book where Harry hears that Dumbledore and Snape have had a row. I dunno the page or chapter, but if anyone can find it, it might be related to their "pact."

Also, non-spoiler question: I got the UK version (smaller size and no illustrations for the win - I hate Mary GrandPre sooooo much), but was wondering if the US version still says "snogging" all the fucking time. Cause that's about the most British word in existence. I read the US HP5, and the US versions of the books have gotten increasingly de-Anglified as the series continues...amusing. Maybe "snogging" will finally catch on as U.S. slang!

upon realizing this from my second reading of that chapter, this is the ONLY thing that made the book enjoyable for me.

I was pissed that she seemed at first to make Snape such a one dimmensional character. However, I was reading so fast at that point that I was missing many obvious things. I agree that Snape is in WAY too deep, but that he is on the side of good. A couple of other things I noticed (that actually made me shiver the second time when I realized what was going on)

Snape looking with rage and hatred - who exactly was his rage and hatred for at that moment? surely not dumbledore;)

Snape actually GIVING Harry advice during their battle "You will never beat me until you can learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed." Umm this isn't something an enemy would say in the missle of battle, now is it. ;)

Snape "saving" Harry when he was in pain. Wasn't that a killing curse he was hexed with? And then Snape says no and stops it?

Remember that with the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa, one of two things had to happen. Draco had to kill Dumbledore or Snape had to kill Dumbledore. If dumbledore lived, Snape would die (and Malfoy also). Dumbledore probably viewed his life as not worth the life of one of the Order AND someone who potentially has good in him (as he found out on his deathbed).

Snape knocked out Flitwick. If he was full on bad, and about to be marked for killing Dumbledore (which I am positive he knew he was) why wouldn't he have killed Flitwick?

Just some things that I realized. Thank you guys for making me see the error of my ways. :)

and yes jack. the US version I believe is unedited. A couple of things threw me (as in I had no idea what they were talking about). Trainers, snogging, and a couple others had me wondering until I saw them in context a couple of times. :)

i certainly could have done without all the colloquialisms.

i had never heard of the term 'snogging' before reading this book (american here) and to be honest, i never want to hear it again. bout the dumbest fucking word anyone ever created. it's 10 fold worse than even smootch. i actually thought she just made that shit up or something. :lol

is it so hard to say kissing/kissed/kiss?

also never heard of trainers... couldn't figure it out for awhile. when first mentioned in the train i thought maybe it was some untied shoelaces or sumfin.

"snogging" is such a more evocative word, though. A "kiss" is just a kiss, but a "snog" is something really slurpy and gross that makes all your friends feel really uncomfortable.

shpankey. remember, this is for brits, by a brit, about brits. bitching about slang in there is about as dumb as bitching about the vast amounts of american slang prevalent in American books. or sci-fi slang present in sci-fi books. they're brits. that's how they talk. they don't speak in american english.

couldn't have said it better.

Wow. While waiting for Amazon to send my copy, I've couldn't wait and downloaded a PDF of what I thought to be the book.

I've read through the whole thing and must say, it's possibly the best fake anything, ever. Completely different plot to what I've twigged in the spoiler tags. It could very well be an early version that JK wrote, before scrapping it totally and rewriting the
Snape killing Dumbledore ending
, which isn't in this one as
Dumbledore is the bad guy?!?!?!
. Yeah. That's probably why she may have changed it. If this is one of her early drafts.

Being as it's a COMPLETELY different story (and a good ones too), I will assume that this is not against the Terms of the forum and won't get me banned.

Anyone wanting a copy can PM me for my email address and I'll email them a download link.

If this is against the forum rules, then MODs, feel free to edit this offer out of my post.

Rowling has NEVER released early drafts or concepts of her books, and neither has any of the publishers.

It's 100% fake.

i wouldn't exactly call what i said bitching. i said i could have done without the colloquialisms. i then went on to berate a stupid sounding word. ;) the two things were sepeate in my post, for that reason.

Please please do not berate the masters of the language you speak. Its our freakin language you speak which you choose to dissect for your own reasons. i mean

Colour
Color!!!

aluminum
aluminium

what you guys doing?
Its our bloody language, leave it alone.
stop berating our words.

Trainers are called such as they are commonly used when you are training, (Running, weights etc)
you don't sneak around in them thus we don't call them sneakers

snogging is a long clinging passionate kiss.
a kiss is a closed lip to lip/cheek/head thing a snog is completely different from a kiss. a kiss is something anyone can give anyone (relatives when saying hello good-bye friends etc) a Snog is something only lovers would do.

I've been here all 26 years of my life. I don't even fucking say snogging.

And I prefer how yanks spell things. It more phontecially correct I find.

But they're wrong about football. Unforgivably wrong.

You're so... wrong. I downloaded that same PDF and it is complete shit. I literally knew after the first two paragraphs that Rowling didn't write it. I can't write fiction to save my life and I could have written something better. Its really clear that someone who is barely a teenager wrote it, and I can't believe you think it was so good...

Two chapters in it was broken and there was all sorts of problems. But it built up some of the relationships well and some of the twists and hooks were well made. It made me hate the right guys I was supposed to and like the ones I was supposed to... except for the big end twist. I didn't buy that. It was dumb.

No Hogwarts in book 7 is going to CRAZY I tell you.

You're batshit insane if you honestly believe they wont go there at all in book 7.

I cannot wait for book 7, the final book, and since Rowling said she complete that one first, I expect it in 2006.

Dream on. Absolutely no way does it come out before summer 2007 at the earliest.
